{New Quilted Graduating Ombré Silk Velvet Bottom}

As already mentioned in my previous post, see link below, today I show you what I finally created from yet another remnant of my French Graduating Ombré Silk Velvet.
Yes, this was my very special project!
A new bottom for my treasured French Ormolu Jewelry Box!
Again, from a remnant, used for my own sewing creation in Graduating Ombré Silk Velvet.
This photo is from December 9, 2004.
Yes, I also did make a matching Silk Hair Bow Barrette...
Using the same batting for quilting...
Sewing on the barrette clip...
Fastening it with the silk charmeuse band in the center.
Tricky to hold it all in place while threading your needle but it worked.
In Atlanta at Holly Lobby on November 18, we did find these perfect Czech Glass Beads in Metallic Gold!
Also the matching DMC embroidery floss.
From left to right: French Graduating Ombré Silk Velvet, some stiff material (?).
Together with my dear Friend Ellie, I found it in my hometown while in The Netherlands.
To the right you see a remnant of batting for quilting.
DMC Embroidery Floss; Czech Beads, Pencil and Silk Charmeuse for lining the underside.
From the original example, I did measure and pencil draw these lines for quilting.
Putting the beads inside small Pillivuyt ramekins and threading my gold tipped sewing needle with 2 strands of embroidery floss.
This is how I did sew the beads on:
First the big bead, secondly the smal one and than going back with the needle through the big bead and into the fabric again.
First of course I had stitched the stiff filling, batting and silk velvet together!
Rounded corners, like the original and this is how it looks now from the underside after sewing those beads on.
With Basting Thread, I did tack the Silk Charmeuse with its right side onto the Silk Velvet.
But what a HELL OF A JOB to reverse this!
Turned out that the stiff filling was way too stiff to handle.
It got all warped up!
But slowly and with perseverance...
Yes, the battle was almost over here...
Wearing still my shorts a couple of weeks ago!
Now I had to hand sew the opening that I left unstitched, between two rounded corners...
Using silk thread, from Britex Notions (link below).
Also the quilting I've done with this Japanese KINKAME silk thread.
Here it is; completely DONE!
Very hard for making half decent photos in the December light...
Also the Graduating Ombré Silk Velvet has its shine and different color nuances.
This photo is taken outside with daylight.
Now you clearly can see WHY I opted for this golden brown Ombré Silk Velvet Bottom.
It goes so perfect with the Ormolu.
Also love the beveled glass panels!
In full daylight...
So happy for having this little, but very complex task accomplished.
Hope you like it too!

Thank you for your visit!

{My French Ormolu Jewelry Box got new Bottom}

For several years I'd been looking for 5mm gold nails with claws, for replacing the bad looking old ones in the worn velvet of my French Ormolu Jewelry Box's Bottom...
So finally I found them in France and Claudia from NuNu's Garn-und Stofflabor did put the new bottom together for me.
You can click the above link for reading her post about this job.
This is my Antique French Ormolu Jewelry Box...
It was again a very sunny day and I loved to fill this tiny white vase with fragrant Ginger Lilies.
It does have a beveled glass top and four side panels.
Here is the new Bottom, made by Claudia...
She did replace this stained and worn velvet bottom...
That fabric could not be salvaged...
So we found the 5mm Gold nails with claws and Claudia used some Suedine, that she uses for her Bear making, creating the foot soles.
This is the end result.
My silver Angels feel very much at home for the time being, as long as they reside at: Mariette's Back to Basics my boutique on line.
Once they all get adopted, I can fill it with my own jewelry.
Photo taken with the lid opened for a better color.
Thank you Claudia!

{Antique French Gilt Metal & Glass Biscuit Box with Handle}

On the French eBay I did come across this beautiful Antique French Gilt Metal & Glass Biscuit Box with Handle. The only problem was that one side of the handle had a missing threaded rivet... When I asked my husband if he could repair that, he said yes I can. So off I went and bid on it but the person was NOT willing to ship it to the USA. Well, I asked friend Janny from Rozen van Papier (Paper Roses) if she could help me out. She graciously did so and that's how I ended up being in possession of this antique French Biscuit Box. Only at Christie's I did find something similar: A VICTORIAN GILT METAL BISCUIT BARREL AND COVER WITH CUT-GLASS LINER, LATE 19TH CENTURY... Have a look at ours below, it is the same size as the one at Christie's above but not as valuable. But this is now our treasure!
Would you not have fallen in love with it?
One of those threaded rivets on the side of the handle was missing...
So what did I do to find a matching one?
Husband Pieter took the two off from the glass lid and replaced the one missing on the handle with one of them.
Than I went on line for finding two new ones for putting on the glass lid again.
Guess what? I ended up at Restoration Supply Company in Escondido, California where I ordered my two round threaded rivets and nut hex!
We received excellent service from Miss Brandi K. Gay!
To the right is Brandi K. Gray.
A very caring company with OUTSTANDING customer service!
So refreshing to learn that such high courtesy companies still exist...
Somebody had tried to glue them to the glass top...
Tricky for removing all that gunk without damaging but Pieter managed to do so.
On top of the lid are the two new round threaded rivets with their matching hex nut that Pieter did saw to fit.

This Gilt Metal & Glass Biscuit Box measures 18.5 cm x 12 cm and 11 cm high or 7.3 inches long and 4.7 inch wide and 4.3 inch high. Quite a size and I filled it up with home baked Amaretti cookies made from almond meal.
Quite lovely or not?
What a history this biscuit box has had... wish it could speak!
So glad it arrived here safely in one piece; all the way from France.
Love those ball feet! Very nice beveled corners too.
If you like to sit down for a while, I will make you a tea or coffee to go with these Amaretti cookies.
ENJOY!

{My French Ormolu Jewelry Box & Silver Angels}

Just have to show off this gorgeous French Ormolu Jewelry Box with my Silver Angels... Purchased from one Blogger I Admire: Beth from Salvage Life. Beth is located in Long Beach, California. At this difficult time of a downward economy, where the unemployment rate is very high and the people receiving food stamps in the US of A is up by 46% over the past 4 years, I applaud women like Beth! Sure, we all need to pay attention to the future, we need a true leader that brings us out of the present situation, but for the time being we are in it. Both Pieter and I have voted on Friday, October 19, and we hope that ALL Americans will exercise their voting right. Now let me show you my treasure:
Photo taken outside, on our balcony.
After husband Pieter did clean up the beautiful repousse roses that are in Ormolu or Gilt Metal, this is what I got. My silver angel cherub pill box with gilt goes so beautifully with it.
Just LOVE those repousse roses!
Luckily I did spot in time what it was and obtained this beautiful beveled glass jewelry box.
Having lots of books on the subject for educating yourself, always pays off in the end.
We only needed to replace the bottom glass as it was missing.
This jewelry box makes a gorgeous display for my Silver Angels that are for sale at my Spectrenoir boutique on line, free shipping!
Those cherub angel crosses you see in this box, are already sold...
All ingredients together; perfect light from sunshine; real roses and repousse ormolu roses.
Plus my favorite of angels and cherubs...
Don't you love them too?
We all need a guardian angel and even as a nation we are in dire need of one!
The Raphael angel, bottom right is sold too...
Crosses are sold, one is upside down and one shows the front. They were identical.
The alphabet angels are solid 925 silver charms from Giovanni Raspini Charms & Co, Italy from the heart of Tuscany. See link below post.
Roses, Lace, Angels and Cherubs
Who does NOT love that combination?
AngelsnRosebuds
The above WAS my Twitter name and you know now WHY...
Wishing you a blessed day!

{Early 1900s French Camille Tharaud Limoges pâte-sur-pâte plaque}

A very rare gem is this early 1900s French Camille Tharaud Limoges pâte-sur-pâte enameled porcelain plaque with oval ormolu frame. It was available at my Zen Cart powered on line boutique: Mariette's Back to Basics. It does have an easel to stand on and would make a beautiful display. Scroll down to see more photos and also some similar items that were sold at Christie's.
This enameled porcelain pâte-sur-pâte plaque from Camille Tharaud Limoges was very difficult to photograph...
The frame is in gilt metal, a technique called Ormolu.
Here it is on a blue batik tablecloth, outside on the balcony.
This one is also on the balcony...
Always some reflection in the shiny enameled porcelain.
This is taken inside on our French oak table in the dining room.
The green marks Limoges France
In gold C (Camille) Tharaud Limoges France
Also the easel is visible here. All in perfect condition.
Closeup of the French marks. It can also be hung from the loop.

This is a smal Limoges pâte-sur-pâte plaque that was sold by Christie's A SMALL LIMOGES PATE-SUR-PATE PLAQUE. It yielded $ 813 in December of 2008. For sure that made a perfect Christmas gift to someone!
Another Limoges pâte-sur-pâte rectangular plaque sold in 1998 at Christie's for $ 672, see Christie's A Limoges pâte-sur-pâte rectangular plaque

Another sold at Christie's in 2003 for $ 5,019 see: Christie's A LIMOGES PÂTE-SUR-PÂTE BLUE-GROUND RECTANGULAR PLAQUE
This is a scan from page 137 of my book: ART DECO LIMOGES Camille Tharaud and other ceramists
Keith & Thomas Waterbrook-Clyde see here at Amazon.
Sorry sold out...
