Our Large Blooming Gardenias

 Our large blooming gardenias
Heavenly fragrant corsage gardenias that I did bring inside on May 28.
They are such a dream!

Our Hoya Bella Blooms

Trying to catch up on things...
On May 25, a perfect close up of the beautiful fragrant Hoya Bella in our veranda with the Delftware houses.
This is the one hanging in our kitchen bay window with my hand crocheted curtains.
Not easy to capture...
Got two tiny starters and Pieter babied them and he later had to plant them in the larger planters.
Love their perfect tiny blooms!
This is the one in the veranda
Dreamy with the Delftware houses...
The kitchen bay window has the antique brass one on chains, with inner pot of course.
In the veranda we have a Delft White hanging planter for which I first had to find brass chains on line, at McMaster–Carr.
My Pieter always managed to put it together...

Our Blooming Indoor Plants in April

Of course I got way behind in so many things but like to show you our blooming indoor plants on bay window sill.
Tiggy Tiger girl posing next to our Stephanotis Floribunda or Madagascar Jasmine.
And yes, those are the golden yellow pansies that Pieter planted in late November...
We purchased this at Trader Joe's last year so it bloomed a 2nd year and how many fragrant blossoms...
Believe me, having breakfast, lunch and supper with such a view is heavenly!
A very rewarding plant!
Pieter bought me this white orchid... his last ever indoor plant brought home for me!
Our now 9 year old Amaryllis blooming
The morning light is glorious...
This Amaryllis now has been planted outside, adjacent to our bay window so next year I can see it blooming there.
Showing you how HUGE this orchid blossom is next to my thumb!
Stephanotis Floribunda two days later and more opened up now
Wish I could transmit their fragrance!
Final blossoms Pieter got to enjoy...

Happy with New Stephanotis floribunda or Madagascar Jasmine

Yay, what a happy sight at Trader Joe's—Stephanotis
Stephanotis floribunda has been my all time favorite fragrant flower!
Had them back in The Netherlands and also at our previous home in Dublin, Georgia and here at our home.
Ordered a Madagascar Jasmine (Stephanotis floribunda) from Logee's ←click link—if you don't live near any Trader Joe's...
nostalgic photo from 1988 on our solid oak windowsill inside a Delft White cachepot.
To me this photo is meaningful—for the memory...
When we moved up north and then to Italy, a dear friend kept this one for me and I got it back in May of 1992!
Closeup of the heavenly Stephanotis blooms in 1992!
And again here, probably without flash...
Photo from our kitchen in 1998 and in the center of our bay window, I had another stephanotis and two Hoya Cornosa plants around a metal ring.
Below my hand crocheted curtain you also see a Hoya Bella in a brass planter on chains.
We are about to have a baby Hoya Bella taking up residence there!
And here our new resident captured this morning at breakfast time!
Stephanotis floribunda from Trader Joe's
Residing on the Corian windowsill on our bay window in the kitchen.
Just like in the above image...
A healthy and happy new resident!

Do you have or had a Stephanotis floribunda?

Those who feel Happy with the HAPPINESS of OTHERS

Just a short post with a great quote as moral compass...

Frost and our Patio Pots

It has been quite some years since we had such frost as this winter.
Maximum was –10°C or 14°F.
Our tropical exotics like this Clematis Armandii we long have lost to bitter winters...
In above picture was against our balcony on April 14, 1995.
That one died from frost...
Pieter had managed to save two starters.
{My Green Sewing Creation} ←click for seeing more photos with its tropical blooms.
Those were the top years for our garden!
But the trees have grown bigger and our other shrubs and plants must compete...
Also we both aged and we opted more for Pot Plants on our Patio.
Also the more hardy ones so not every fall and spring they ought to be hauled in and out of our greenhouse.
On our patio, one pot plant is this Croton Yellow Mammy.
Croton
Croton plants have beautiful patterned leaves.
Crotons are pretty!
Some other pot plants on our patio.
Soon we will see what will be left from our patio pot plants...
Looking out of the bay window we see a lot of dead plants in the garden!
Hate that dreary look but in two months things will start anew.

This section got last done when Mom was in her final days

It is already over 7 years ago, since Mom's final days.
Our very last FaceTime with Mom,
thanks to my youngest brother Jan's efforts to take his iPhone to Mom at the hospital.
Pieter was outside, working with Wood Protector, when I walked out from our veranda door with the iPad, so Mom could see and hear both of us...
See link below post with photos of this very Wood Trail.
This time, Pieter did raise the trail a bit more and also used side edges with 2 by 2 wood so it stays cleaner after rain.
It got freshly stained with Wood Protector.
This is at the beginning, under the Rose Arbor, taken on May 19!
On May 8, Pieter started out on this Mega Task...
Using wood protector before the 2 by 2 is being added on the side edges.
Taking up the old boards, getting the rusted screws all out and then putting it together again...
You see some of the damaged, rotten wood and that only since January 2015...
There are bird houses on that huge oak tree, at the end.
This is close to our Gazebo as you see part of it.
On May 14, action... sand for filling up under the Wood Trail and the cart with tools...
Back breaking job for Pieter and on his knees...
He constantly gets scratches on his legs as he uses blood thinners; scary!
Here is the bottleneck; this HUGE laurel oak tree Quercus hemisphaerica has grown so much that its 'toes' are everywhere, and they elevated the wood trail.
The 2 by 2 edges have been treated and are ready to come on.
Bit by bit it will come together; once more and hope for again some 7 years or more!
I have no idea if the bird house is in use...
Maybe our birds are used to Pieter being around.
While Pieter took his nap, on May 19, I took these photos...
You see those thick 'toes' from the oak tree?
Now look at the top of that 2 x 6 inch...
So, this is what Pieter did...
Some tree pedicure and getting a piece out of one of its thick 'toes' for getting the 2 x 6 inch.
Wounded tree toes do not grow, so that will remain like that.
Shown more in detail here.
Nobody else would do such tedious work for you; so the 93-year old husband is doing it himself instead!
Figuring out a way how to, and then into action.
That 'toe' pedicure got done with the electric chain saw...
Long exterior wood screws are being used, that are also coated for rust protection...
Drilling in those screws...
Six days later on May 25, and after lots of rainy weather...
Pieter is already working behind the bottle–neck of the huge oak tree!
Our Gardenias Jasminoides Miami Supreme, were lovely but due to heavy rain the turn brown fast...
Yep, the corner has been tackled!
The 2 x 2 edges will hold the wood trail also better together as before, without any support.
But it's still a long way to go, all the way to the greenhouse...
One day, that too will be finished!
We have had lots of rain but one surprise this morning:
Pink Rain lilies or Zephyranthes grandiflora and one of about 70 species in the Amaryllidaceae (amaryllis family).
There is a hole in one of its petals...
Another bud to the left, soon to open up...
