Both of us always have preferred a LIGHT home, as it is a lot more cheerful!
So when we bought our previous home, newly built and us being its first owners, we did not like the dark wood everywhere.
Kitchen cabinets were in a drab and dark wood color...
You notice the Mushroom Family, with baby in the cradle?
Even the bathrooms had such drab looking dark wooden cabinets.
Those solid oak indoor shutters, Pieter installed himself, in the entire house.
Just like we have in our present home, painted white.
We put new wallpaper and painted the cabinets white.
Those sliding and mirrored tub doors, Pieter also installed.
Brother Harry did put in the floor tiles, for both bathrooms while he was here in 1986 for a 'vacation'. He also helped Pieter install a garage door.
We of course, all four of us, did go in–between to Florida!
As well as other trips.
Very beautiful and bright. Well done Pieter ... and you.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Dearest Victor,
DeleteThank you, we both were very pleased with the efforts of Team Vedder!
Hugs,
Mariette
Carpet in the bathroom is not a good idea at all. I think that must be a bygone thing to do, thank goodness. Funny that our apartment was all white, and I started painting each room a different color. I love the look of light, airy homes, but my maximalist tendencies prefer lots color and pattern. :)
ReplyDeleteDearest Tammy,
DeleteOnly in my very first apartment I had some color and also wall paper. No more, guess I've turned into a minimalist and prefer light.
Hugs,
Mariette
Tiene mucha luminosidad, con muebles y paredes blancas. Tienes unas buenas manos Pieter .
ReplyDeleteBesos
Querida Antónia,
DeleteGracias y sí, aparte de ser brillante mi Pieter tiene manos doradas!
Abrazos,
Mariette
I had to laugh at the photo of carpet in the bath ... and your observation. Seems you and Pieter have always had a wonderful shared energy.

Dearest Helen,
DeleteThank you and yes, we both have been always at the very same wave length and almost endless energy. It is fond for looking back now...

Mariette
Hello Mariette, You were buying that house during an unfortunate period of dark kitchens, and "builder's grade" objects and materials are never very promising. Your version is 100% better. I once looked at a house to rent that had such a dark kitchen that I made it a condition to paint it white. The rental did not work out, however, because they would not make at least a one-year lease.
ReplyDelete--Jim
Dearest Jim,
DeleteGuess that even nowadays in our region still dark kitchens are the majority.
When I had my open house for Christmas Sale, Valentine or Easter Sale, I always got compliments on our all white kitchen.
Rentals are often not the best for getting what you want. In Italy we had just renovated our entire kitchen and about 3 months later we moved out. That was my best and easiest cleaning white kitchen ever. Not talking about the built in items as we were so restricted in electricity there.
Hugs,
Mariette
WOW, what a wonderful kitchen an bathroom you had!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a lovely rest of the week,
Love and hugs, Claudia xo
Dearest Claudia,
DeleteYes, that turned into a light and roomy kitchen and our two bathrooms also got a big change.
Hugs,
Mariette
That was a lot of work. It seems owning a home always involves renos and work! I do agree, I p refer lighter colours, especially (as in the case of my townhouse) there's not much natural light coming in.
ReplyDeleteTake care and stay well.
Dearest Kim,
DeleteYes, it was quite a challenging task but when you're still young you tackle it easier. Oh, the light colors do brighten your days, especially during a dark and dreary period.
Hugs,
Mariette
The renovation is really interesting ;-) Wonderful to see how the rooms are being renovated.
ReplyDeleteDearest Anne,
DeleteA lot of work but very rewarding in that home.
Hugs,
Mariette
So many great photos and such a big job
ReplyDeleteDearest Jo-Anne,
DeleteThank you, it was quite a job indeed but we were happy with the results.
Hugs,
Mariette
The kitchen looks lovely! The white paint really makes it seem a bit more spacious despite being small :) Great DIY skills! :)
ReplyDeleteHope that you have a lovely weekend ahead of you!
Away From The Blue
Dearest Mica,
DeleteThank you and sure the white opened up the entire room.
When you are taught to use your hands at an early age, you manage all your life... We both have tackled almost any project by ourselves.
Hugs,
Mariette
What a beautiful job Pieter did Mariette, I absolutely agree, white does make everything fresh and light and you can add colour with accessories 💜
ReplyDeleteDearest Grace,
DeleteThank you and yes, we both had the same view and went for it and it made all the difference.
Hugs,
Mariette
Dear Mariette,
ReplyDeletei like light colors too!
Best regards
Bernhard
Dearest Bernhard,
DeleteGuess that most people will be in favor of light colors.
Hugs,
Mariette
Your kitchen and bathrooms look beautiful. I like light colors for home as well. Your husband Pieter did amazing job here as well and it’s wonderful your brother also helped the home improvement!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend, Mariette xo
Dearest Tamago,
DeleteThank you, we were pleased with the end results.
Yes, it was great that my brother pitched in and helped Pieter with these chores.
Hugs,
Mariette
