{1987 Scottsdale Arizona versus 2014}

Yep, we had been to Scottsdale Arizona twice before; long time ago! That was in January of 1986 and in February of 1987. Both times my husband Pieter got invited to present a paper for the SPAWN MATE SYMPOSIUM. Each time we got to stay at the luxurious Registry Resort and even if this meant work for my husband, we did enjoy it very much!
With the famous Camelback Mountain in the back; to us this was like PARADISE!
The Post Card's front gives a bird's-eye view of The Registry Resort's court-yard pool area. This 76-acre estate in Scottsdale, Arizona has 323 guest rooms, villas and bi-level suite, 21-lighted tennis courts, Health Club, two 18-hole championship golf courses and four of the Southwest's finest restaurants and lounges.
That's the reason that we went here in both years during winter in January and in February!
That's me on January 24, 1986 enjoying some bright blue sky and Arizona sunshine!
There is some glare from the glass in this picture as Pieter took it from inside...
As the above postcard already revealed, The Registry had four of the Southwest's finest restaurants...
Mouthwatering good I can tell you!
Both of us are not playing golf... Maybe next life?
But look at this Paradise-like Golf Course!
Yeah, Pieter is actually pushing this leaning palm tree back up–right.
He used to be mighty strong in his young years!
BUT... Since our last time at the Scottsdale Registry Resort, things have changed!
They completely wiped it off the planet in order to build condominiums and shopping malls, which would render more money. UNREAL but yes, here Pieter is standing in the back of those condominiums and it is ALL GONE.
Pieter said, so is also his full head of dark, curly hair (as is mine!)
Good thing is that nobody dared to move that Camelback Mountain; it is still there!
The above 2 photos were taken on September 4, the day before we flew back from Phoenix, Arizona to Savannah, Georgia. We did stay one night at the Hyatt Place Scottsdale/Old Town which is excellent and very conveniently located.
We still need to go back to Scottsdale, so Pieter will have a chance to ride their unique FREE Molly the Trolley...
Which I did on January 24 of 1986 - it is a fun experience too.
See link below post with more info.
When we were in Arizona, 27 years ago, we did not have the money, nor the time for doing some sight seeing.
But we came back this year to see at least part of what is on this 1986 post card...
  • 1. Mission San Xavier Del Bac, Near Tucson
  • 2. Tree-Like Cactus
  • 3. Tucson
  • 4. U.S. No. 80 at Telegraph Pass near Yuma
  • 5. Hoover Dam
  • 6. Oak Creek Canyon
  • 7. Grand Canyon
  • 8. Petrified Forest U.S. No. 66 - The Famous Main Street of America!
  • 9. The Painted Desert
  • 10. Downtown Phoenix
Stay tuned for next posting where I will take you to Williams, Arizona and the WILD WEST!

{TBT My 1st Nephew & Hand Crocheted Bikini}

  • THROW BACK THURSDAY...
  • In early May, my eldest nephew Eddy was born, my younger sister Diny's child... Still remember so vividly when he was born and that first summer that I'd held him so often, like a prized possession.
  • Of course the first born of each new generation is very special and then we get used to it and kind of let go of the initial excitement.

  •  Here I am, in August and just returned from vacation in Germany and glad to see my nephew back!
  • Under Dad's peach tree in The Netherlands...
  • Little did I know then, that I would later come to live in the Peach-State of Georgia/USA...

Being 21 years young and wearing my hand crocheted bikini...
  • Eddy is born in the little hamlet of America in The Netherlands.
  • Now, years later, my Mom jokes about the fact that she has two daughters that live in America; one in the big America and the other in little America.
  • August... just the beginning of a new life.
  • This used to be my wooden chaise for decades, it even went with us to the USA!

  • Almost one year old now in the above photo and ready to explore the big world.

  • Eddy, at age two-and-a-half here, dancing with his Mom at his Grandparents' 25th wedding anniversary.
  • In the background it's me with very long hair and wearing of course mini at that time.
  • Literally a LBD (Little Black Dress)...
  • Eddy at the age of three on July 14, 1974, at one of my annual dinners when we had the city's Fair, in Panningen, The Netherlands, where I've lived for five years.
  • By the way; several Dutch blog readers at present are from Panningen, so just want to send a warm greeting across the Atlantic Ocean and THANKS!
  • Even when I was young, I loved to cook for a crowd of seventeen. Mainly because of being the eldest alive, of a family of seven children. Then moving out to live on your own after marriage; it gets awfully quiet! That was the hardest part to get used to. So once a year I got them all together and it made me feel like being home again with a big family.
  • Probably for the very same reason, I did several times take a day off on Friday and Monday, then borrowed my sister Diny's two kids, giving her a break for four days to spend time alone with her husband. That served both of us well.
  • We were very close, till of course Pieter and I immigrated to the USA.
    • Another coincidence is that Eddy, being active in the Royal Netherlands Navy (Lieutenant Commander) on a submarine got to go to St. Maarten in the Caribbean, where we were on vacation a couple of times but not at the same time... He even has come to Atlanta frequently, for certain purchases on behalf of the Royal Navy but never had a chance to visit us...
Maybe, one day we meet on this side of the ocean...

    {Our Brown Jordan Chaise & Wolford Bathing Suit Score}

Don't know about you, but things in life seldom go as planned... at least not for both of us.
After Pieter finished last year with the tiles on our balcony, we did order a Brown Jordan Chaise after we fell in love with it at the HYATT house Atlanta/Cobb Galleria during our stay of July 17.
First we had to search the internet and than order ONE.
The question over and over was; how many do you need for your resort?!
It took all summer though... On September 24, finally we drove to Atlanta to the warehouse where it had been delivered. I came back with this very chaise on TOP of my cute ute; the now 17-year old Ravy, my Toyota RAV4!
BUT no more summer use for 2013, only this year after a LONG wait because of a wet spring and big part of the summer, I got to use our new Brown Jordan Chaise!
This is it; different color frame however.
Ours is: Brown Jordan Patio Stacking Adjustable Flight Chaise 3940-7000 in White Lite color 055 with Versatex Mesh in Latte 1079
Yep, that's me wearing my Outlet Score from May 3, when we went to The Colonnade Outlets at Sawgrass Mills in Sunrise, Florida...
Just keep in mind that I am 3 x the age of your average model of 21 years young!
The sun is way too harsh to even look...
My natural gray hair; never ever used any dye...
THIS is a professional model and a lot younger!
But this triple-age girl was mighty proud for having snatched up a Wolford Forming Swimbody in Black, size Small, in cup B, with a whopping 75% Rebate!
Now that's what I call Outlet Scores; high quality for a steal.
    Yep, my Egyptian feet...
Now each of us has a chaise on the balcony...
Love this new Brown Jordan Chaise & my Wolford Bathing Suit!
I had to laugh because: Wolford will discontinue its swimwear in spring 2015 (just click it)
Even though, I never will be making over–time on the balcony like this...

    {What Type of Feet do YOU have?}

Have you ever looked at the shape of your feet?
There are different Foot Types and I found out that I have Egyptian Type Feet.
Voilà -- My Egyptian Type Feet!
Yep, that's ME: Egyptian Foot - The Egyptian Foot tends to be a narrow foot. It has a longer big toe and the rest of the toes taper down from longest to shortest. It is the most functional of all the foot structures.
However because of the long big toe, you must be careful in your choice of shoes.
Ha, being careful with choice of shoes?
Even more careful with choice of panty hose.
That's one reason I wear Wolford hosiery as they last and last.
All other brands I can trash after doing some walking or God forbid; dancing...
Which Foot Type Are You... Egyptian Roman Greek...
Tell me in the comment what yours are... I am anxious to know your DNA.
Egyptian Type Feet with shoe size 8... Or European size 38.
Guess if my big toe would not be that long I had a size 7 or 37.
This photo is taken at the Camino Real, hotel in México City.
This is how consultants relax during the weekends.
The above was my all time favorite bathing suit with wrapped skirt from La Perla, Italy.
I was so proud for finding it at the Aventura Mall, Aventura FL (near Miami).
Sadly it vanished from the Camino Real Mexico City hotel...
The above picture is from the Dutch magazine Nouveau where I found it.
Looking down on my toes from my chaise at the Hyatt House Miami Airport while at the pool last month...
    On our balcony...
No change; they definitely are Egyptian!
Elite Feet Tapered toes or Egyptian feet | link to Urban Dictionary
Female feet where the big toe is the longest toe. The most attractive type of feet. (Hello, how many pair of panty hose they pierced?!) They are fairly uncommon, but that's one of the reasons why they are so great. Also sometimes called tapered toes or Egyptian type feet.
Putting my best foot forward still does not change it...
    Big toe is LONGER!
See my left foot below; it's very obvious.
Mummy's False Toes Helped Ancient People Walk Like an Egyptian (click link for reading full and very interesting story...)
I start feeling very ANCIENT myself...
Maybe, just maybe—this is why I LOVE these toe loop sandals?
    What is your favorite sandal?
Before I start feeling like an endangered species, I want to compare my toes with others...
By the way, Perfect Ten Salon & Spa did a great job on the pedicure!
But are my toes also perfect ten?!
One of my favorite toe loop sandals from Indonesia... WISH I had bought several pairs of these!
Do you ever regret you didn't purchase more of something that proves very comfy?
Here we stand: My husband Pieter as a true Roman (?) and I as an Egyptian...
Pieter's right foot even looks like GREEK, with the 2nd toe longer than the big toe. Not so his left foot.
    Long second toe
Indicates leadership qualities. Rulers from ancient Egyptian and Hawaiian royal dynasties all had long second toes. You need to be in charge.
That is TRUE for my Pieter!
For sure, husband Pieter has not a narrow foot...
He stands on this earth very firmly!
Had to add this as it already did confuse me with Irmi's small sized German feet in a size 4.5 but that is 37.5 European or a 7 in the US. Got confused once again with all these differences...
Guess this is an interesting subject with 26,445 views.

    {My First Trip to the City of Romance | VENICE, ITALY}

On my Venice, Italy blog header, I got several comments so let me show you my very First Trip to the City of Romance | VENICE, ITALY. Indeed, that was quite some years ago, as a matter of fact this was thirty years ago, early September. It also was my very first International Consulting trip. As usual, we always managed to combine business with pleasure while indulging in the fabulous Italian culture.
This is what I used for my header at present, a little bit cropped but the very same photo.
Looking at Piazza San Marco in Venice.
Now, travel with me by car from The Netherlands, via Germany, Austria into Northern Italy...
Snacking on an apple at the Brenner Pass, the border between Austria and Italy with a tunnel through the Alps.
The weather in the Alps is always quite different from the coastal area in Italy on the Adriatic...
Destination JESOLO & VENEZIA or VENICE in English...
    Dreaming alongside the River Piave...
I had no idea  that I once would WORK & LIVE there!
Our VW Golf with the sticker HORST from my hometown in The Netherlands - NL
Here I am, standing in bikini, on the balcony of our apartment in Jesolo, a beach resort near Venice on the Adiatric Sea...
By boat we went from Jesolo to VENICE, the Queen of the Adiatric!
    The Gondolas from Venice...
Do you see our Moby Dick Venezia coming?
Wow, admiring all the architecture around Piazza San Marco...
Taking it all in... Proudly wearing my Italian PE® Florence purse that I got at a wholesale store in The Netherlands, Bohamij B.V., with my pass on Mom & Dad's Market Garden business.
I still do have that quality purse!
Like the pigeons, I would love to get high... for a broader view!
Behind me you see Palazza Ducales.
    Enjoying a small ice cream...
We ate HUGE coupes with ice cream in Jesolo, that was during my years of ice cream addiction!
A one day visit is by far not enough for Venice...
You can shop till you drop!
Standing on one of Venice's 400 foot bridges...
So that was my First Trip to the City of Romance | VENICE, ITALY
Birthplace of explorer Marco Polo and composer Antonio Vivaldi...

    Have you been to Venice?
    Many visitors here...

From Venice we went to Pederobba where I did some consulting work for Funghi del Montello.
We also visited Asolo and Montegrappa, with 1775 m the highest peak of the Veneto Prealp region between the rivers Brenta and Piave.
In Possagno we visited the Mausuleum, a neoclassic imitation of the Pantheon in Rome by and for Antonio Canova the famous sculptor who did e.g. The Three Graces
Possagno was also the birthplace of Antonio Canova and he's buried there in his own Mausuleum, Il Tempio.
For a fabulous 360° view of Antonio Canova's Temple in Possagno you can click on the previous hyperlink. All four pink ones  are hyperlinks, as usual in my posts.
Hope you enjoyed going to Venice and Il Veneto with me!
