{My Appointment with Certified Podologist Across the Ocean}

Fighting Jet Lag...
The very BEST thing to do is after a shower and lovely breakfast, to follow up on an appointment with a Certified Podologist!
Or Certified Master Pedicurist for that matter.
Even if that is across the Ocean.
Feeling oh so RELAXED in the hands of Natalie Basten, from Medisch Pedicure Praktijk Horst in my birth town...
Wearing my Escada jeans (see post: {My White Escada Jeans Score}) and a new find from Last Call by Neiman Marcus, such a light comfy top by Michael Kors.
LOVED this quote:
Many people will
Walk in and out
of your Life
but only true
Friends leave
footprints in
your Heart
Relaxing atmosphere through the modern lay out of her work space
👣
Thank you Natalie for giving me 'Happy Feet' for driving the distance to the South of France and beyond!
Only wish, there would not be such a vast (read: expensive...) Ocean between us.

Thanks for your visit!

{My White Escada Jeans Score}

In May I did find a beautiful White Escada Jeans on eBay that I did Score!
They are in a cotton stretch.
Here I am wearing both my Outlet Score of Last Call Sandals and my precious white Escada Jeans with very special stitching.
Photo is taken during our 3 day stay at the Hyatt House Miami Airport, our favorite home away from home and this time it was FREE for points!
Photo courtesy from eBay, showing the label and the size 34 or US 4...
Inseam length was sufficient for my long legs, so I was happy!
Worn 1 x and only for US $ 30 and FREE shipping...
Wow, that truly was a SCORE!
BUT... they were not quite truthful. When I did wear it one time, I felt like a caterpillar as it was VERY tight in the waist!
My, did I feel FAT...
But when I was feeling in the back while wearing it, there was a bump in the seam.
Frankly, I'd been wearing a form fitting Wolford panty underneath and since it was high waisted, I kept tugging my top down for covering it and not showing...
So once I got home, I pulled my jeans down and investigated.
Sure enough, it had been ALTERED!
In the center it had been stitched off, making it a size 32 or US size 2 in the waist!
No wonder I was feeling FAT.
BUT I did solve it in a simple way.
Letting out the back seam and adding white bias tape on the inside, so I could proceed again with the top stitching.
Than I took off the waist band till the sides and did take a part out from the inside, replacing the inside part with a wide bias tape and sewing it back together, adding more width over the entire back.
I did gain about 5 cm or 2 inches as shown with my fingers.
Sorry, my left index looks flaky, had worked blisters on it from weeding, even with wearing a cotton glove and plastic glove over it!
This is the result!
Quite happy with it and it is still a Score.
Paid US $ 30 + $ 1.67 for the bias tape (the wide one, the other I still had).
Love wearing cropped cotton tops like this old one from Neiman Marcus...
Love my sandals too!

Thank you for your visit.

{Last Call Outlet Score of Etienne Aigner Sandals}

Nothing is more rewarding than scoring on some high quality items at Last Call by Neiman Marcus!
Very happy with my block heel sandals from Etienne Aigner!
Very comfortable and adjustable, for me wearing them in the tightest option.
The padded footbed is heavenly...
Full price was $ 325.00 and I scored them for $ 87.60!
Love the stacked block heel and also the lugged rubber outsole.
Thong strap
Love the grommets too!
In the back they have elastic, so they really do fit perfect.
At least I'm very happy with this score!
We found them at the Last Call Outlet in Sawgrass Mills in Florida
Wearing my Escada dress with it here.
Do you like them?
We did celebrate this score with a delicious Häagen Dazs kiddo ice-cream (yes, I sinned...) of pineapple - coconut!
Used to eat that always in the years before I had high blood sugar levels.

Thanks for your visit.

{Happy Birthday with a Pain Free Back}

Good news is that I was able to celebrate my Birthday with a Pain Free Back!
That in itself was the BEST gift one could wish for after more than a week of excruciating pain.
Because of my chronic kidney disease I cannot take any over the counter medication and neither did I want to start again on opiates, prescribed by my doctor.
That's what I took in the end of 2009 when I was diagnosed with severe mid back arthritis...(?)
It resulted in being completely paralyzed, due to a rare auto immune disease and only with  Prednisone I was able to move again. But after taking that for about two years, my kidneys paid a price for curing this Polymialgia rheumatica.
So I'd rather tough it out and take nothing, except my daily supplement from Costco Wholesale the Youtheory Turmeric capsules that come with 180 in a pot.
Will show more below...
First a few Birthday dinner pictures...
Sorry for the poor quality... snapshots taken by husband Pieter with my iPhone, he even left out a friend...
I wore two layers of cashmere, a sleeveless mock neck and the very thin sweater with poetry that I showed in a previous post: {Cashmere Words of Wisdom & Update}
Feeling doubly warm with this score from Last Call by Neiman Marcus that I also wore when I did FaceTime with Mom, two days before her death...
Since we had to arrange things last minute, due to my condition and not knowing if I would be able to sit through such a 5-course dinner, we were in a cozy group of four friends. Very special evening though!
At Ristorante da Maria from Dublin Farm "Come Home To The Country" I always do eat the dessert as well. Even being diabetes type 2...
Here they just served mine with the birthday candle on top.
This was the choice of dinner and Pieter and I opted for the salmon.
Turmeric by Youtheory from Costco. Just click the hyperlink to go to my Pinterest board for further info after clicking on the photo!
This is what I have been taking during the time of my excruciating back pain and it sure did give me some relief! Usually I take one tablet per day but I went to two.
Turmeric seems to be an excellent anti-inflammatory support and also is good for your kidneys. Just click the hyperlink.
We might indeed be able to learn a great deal from countries where this has been used for centuries, such as India, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and as part of Ayurveda and other branches of traditional medicine.
Youtheory® Turmeric Advanced Formula features Curcumin C3 Complex® - a patented turmeric extract that contains minimum 95% curcuminoids.

Costco just had as discount on these and I did stock up and will also mail some to my youngest sister in The Netherlands who suffers from Fibromyalgia.

{Our Christmas Eve Dinner at Ristorante da Maria}

Sorry for posting this late but since December 20, my FeedBurner was not working.
Rather annoying but nothing what I tried, pinging or whatever, worked...
Suddenly it was just back!
And off again after posting this... Arrrgggh.

So a belated post about our Christmas Eve Dinner at Dublin Farm Come Home To The Country at Ristorante da Maria.
Here we are in front of the Christmas tree with a Hot Punch.
There was a pianist who played during the 5-course dinner.
We have had heavy rain with flood warnings and unusual warm weather for Christmas.
Pieter's suit got a bit wet from getting out of the car to the restaurant...
My coat is on the coat rack...
Wearing my new cropped top in caviar from Neiman Marcus Last Call but to me it just is black color.
On the driveway before we left for Christmas Eve Mass.
We had donated a Poinsettia in loving memory of Mom and my Angel Sister Mariet
First Christmas without Mom... but it feels special for having one more Angel that we know by name!

My skirt is from Escada, printed hair calf and I've cut it shorter as it was below the knee and rather frumpy looking that way.
Panty hose are DIM PARIS which I bought in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Pumps are Chanel from Last Call at Sawgrass Mills, Florida.
Pieter's suit is from Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH in Woodbury Common Premium Outlet.
We both opted for the Fish; Red Snapper Fillet.
Appetizer: Potatoes au gratin with smoked salmon...
This was SO YUMMY!
First dish: Ravioli stuffed with Porcini mushrooms, topped with a 4-cheese sauce, white truffle oil, Parmesan and fresh herbs.
Our Fish Entrée: Red Snapper Fillet cooked in foil with a Puttanesca sauce.
Lime Sorbet
Strawberry Ice Cream Bomb with fresh berries and starfruit on strawberry coulis.
That was really heavenly!
Lady Chef Maria is the best in our region and she makes everything fresh and from scratch!
Don't you love Pieter's Espresso cup?!
We had a very joyful Christmas Eve, just the two of us.
Hope yours was likewise pleasant, or your Christmas Brunch, Dinner whatever your way of celebrating was.

{Our Grand Hotel Mackinac Island Michigan Afternoon Tea}

In my previous post I told you that the carriage driver let both of us off, only 5 minutes walking distance from Mackinac Island Grand Hotel where we went for Afternoon Tea...
Yes, the tulips were in full bloom in front of Mackinac Island, Michigan's Grand Hotel on June 3...
The Grand Hotel got built in 1887 in just 93 days!
Quite a sight isn't it?
Such perfect tulips!
There were lots of tourists taking photographs but husband Pieter managed to capture their beauty very well.
For entering the Grand Hotel you must pay a fee of $ 10.00 and you may give yourself a tour.
We instead did head straight away for the Grand Hotel Afternoon Tea in the Parlor.
Each table had a bowl that gets removed when serving tea or coffee.
My iPhone 4S on the table...
A plate with an array of pastries and tea for me and coffee for Pieter.
On the right of the plate you also see a fresh-baked scone...
Pieter happily pours his coffee...
Looking really tempting.
Even though I usually don't eat any sweets, I did have the chocolate dipped strawberry and the little chocolate that was filled with yummy coconut mousse and topped with a blueberry.
I also ate the fresh-baked scone, without any marmalade.
Lovely cups!
Perfect timing at 4:00 PM with our Ferry departing at 5:00 PM.
But inside the building with the air-conditioning running, I was pleased that I did bring my packable polyester and silk Escada jacket!
This is a more than 100 year old Grand Hotel tradition, of serving Afternoon Tea in the Parlor, accompanied by a chamber music recital.
We enjoyed this lovely harpist.
The carpet reflects the red Pelargonium, that grow outside, see photo below!
Stunning view over Lake Huron!
When we leave for going on the veranda outside, I had t take these photos...
Sherry and Champagne with petite finger sandwiches.
An array of pastries...
Sorry for the poor quality but I wanted to give you a better look.
Plate with petite finger sandwiches.
Speaking of 'finger', we both were quite surprised that also our array of pastries got served without any pastry fork! Only a spoon for scooping up the mousse.
That is quite different from Europe and at this level I would have expected it as well.
Tea cups on a tray with lovely rose.
Coffee got served in these tea cups as well...
They might want to see my blog post: {Difference Between Coffee & Tea Cups}
No, that is not our Carriage... This is only for guests that stay at the Grand Hotel.
Love that big arch above the grand door!
Great architecture and for completing all that in 93 days, back in 1887 is quite astonishing!
Our Carriage driver did point out something about the azure blue color underneath those balconies for tricking birds into nesting elsewhere...
Tales from the Head Grand Hotel Painter where he states that every April they use some 150 to 200 gallons paint on the exterior!
Time to say goodbye to this incredibly romantic and patriotic looking island of Mackinac, Michigan...
We had such a perfect day and still very sunny!
Windy it got a little bit so Pieter kept his Burberry score from Last Call Outlet on and especially for crossing the Straits of Mackinac on Lake Huron.
It was lovely for living a day in the late 1800s and seeing so many different carriages.
Grand Hotel
Opened on July 10, 1887, the Grand Hotel was built by the Grand Rapids & Indiana and Michigan Central railroads and the Detroit & Cleveland Navigation Company through the efforts of Sen. Francis B. Stockbridge. It is built of Michigan white pine. With its magnificent colonial porch, longest in the world, it is a classic example of gracious living seldom seen today. One of the outstanding landmarks on the Great Lakes, it is the world's largest summer hotel.
We just walk around the corner for boarding again Shepler's Mackinac Island Ferry and for making it back to Mackinaw City.
The long Mackinac Bridge is visible here.
Hope you enjoyed this very special Grand Hotel Afternoon Tea, where many First Ladies stayed over their Century of service.
