{1999 with Brother Jan, I Saw The Best of Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance in Orlando, Florida}

Who has ever seen a show of The Best of Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance? Well, on August 5, 1999, I was fortunate for being at Epcot Center in Orlando, Florida where Michael Flatley did bring his high-energy step-dancing Troupe to perform for my youngest Brother Jan Van den Munckhof, my sister-in-law Wilma and me and of course a lot of other people! WOW; that was real high energy. Never seen a show like that one. Michael Flatley is my youngest brother's age but that's the only comparison...

The above photo is from 2010 where Michael Flatley played himself at age 51.
In total his troupe has played for 60 million people in 60 countries!
So glad that I got to see them play too...

Flatley signed a contract with Disney for Lord of the Dance to perform at Epcot in Walt Disney World in the summer of 1999 and Lord of the Dance was asked back the following summer in 2000.
How lucky we were for JUST being there in 1999!

Did you know that Lord of the Dance was written, devised, produced and choreographed by Michael Flatley within just 8 weeks of its inception?

By the end of the opening night, the show had received several standing ovations and such rave reviews that it was to become the most talked about, most written about, and the most critically acclaimed show in musical history.

      Indeed we were lucky for seeing the show live! Pieter and I did see one time a step dance performance at Dublin Castle in Ireland. That was at the welcome reception for the International Mushroom Science Congress. Both events I enjoyed very much!
      Happy weekend to you and a big hug back.

  6. Good Morning Mariette, I have never seen Michael Flatley dance live, but I have seen his high octane performances on the television. He is such a talented man and mesmerizing to watch. It is hard to believe that one man has so much energy..... and his dancers.... they were a joy to watch as well.
    To have had the opportunity to watch him dance live, must have been wonderful.
    Best Wishes

    1. Dearest Daphne,
      Oh, his troupe was amazing to watch and indeed, very high octane!
      I read that he struggled with some serious health issues and maybe they kind of abuse their body in this way... We never would last that long and neither would we be able to muster such speed.
      Sending you love and hugs,
      Mariette

  7. Dearest Mariette;
    Wow, he seems to be a really famous performer; I just wonder if he has come to Japan as well. Unfortunately, I have never seen stage show except the singers' to our city several times. Oh, it must be wonderful to see talented performance; I wish to see "takarazuka" which is revue performed only by women and there is a special theater for them in Hyogo-pref. (*^_^*)

    Sending you Lots of Love and Hugs from Japan to my dear friend in America, xoxo Miyako*

  8. Oh my, what a fantastic show this is, I saw him and the dancers on TV shows, he is amazing!!! I haven't Heard about him lately, though. I'm gonna find out how he is doing and what's new.
    How wonderful memories you have from going with your Sil and all.
    Thanks a ton for the wonderful comment sweet lady, you always make my day and week, lol!
    My Dutch teaset was bought a few years ago from an old lady who was down sizing and going to live with her son's family, obviously he didn't care for it. She said she had it for ever and she was 88, so I don't know how old it is, but it's vintage, obviously. I just loved it's so pretty in the dark pewter. My chairs in the round alabaster table are vintage made in Holland too....and my best blog friend is from Holland too, lol! I also have a Dutch friend who is a teacher and she and I used to see each other so often cause we taught English together at a private HS here. She's married to an Ecuadorian and her kids got married and live in Holland...how sad, so far away, she's upset cause she said she did the same thing to her family, only the other way around, lol!!!
    Have a great weekend sweetie!

    1. Dearest Fabby,
      That show was quite a whirlwind indeed and we loved it!
      One more sad story from an elderly lady, down sizing and the children don't appreciate the beautiful pieces she got... But you are lucky you got it now and you DO care and will love her set once more. This does happen so often and one wonders why the next generation would not care
      It is hard when friends move away, even worse when children move away and especially at a certain age when traveling becomes an issue.
      But at least I do treasure my Ecuadorian friend and guess what; I ate bananas from your country!
      Hugs and happy weekend to you.
