{Not so elegant poses for fashion photos}

When looking at fashion photos on line or in catalogs, I often wonder what happened...
Neiman Marcus April 2015 catalog
Not very elegant, placing your feet like that...
Escada1
The above pose looks rather elegant in comparison with the present day look!
Escada2
Leg position looks so much more stylish and elegant!

Maybe it has to do with the fact that I'm an old-school fashion student from the mid to late 60s but when looking at Strike A Pose: The 50 Most Influential Models it is quite obvious that so many great women left a mark!

What do you think of those changes?

  1. I enjoyed looking through the slide show. I really don't like the angry, sullen look some of the newer models have. Old school elegance is always appropriate, I think.

You are so right about that! Old school elegance icons are also for the longest period being remembered.

  2. Really funny, dearest Mariette....sometimes the Models look so "unnatural" and not really elegant ;O) ...the sometimes look like Zombies ...LOL............

  4. Hello Mariette,
I'll tell you.... I think the world is going nuts and it is quite sad!!!
This new way to ridicule poses in those mags is a reflection of the stupidity and lack of neurons in the fashion and art industry. It is part of today's decadence: "artists" must shock to be recognised and I see the same in this first photo... That is why I never open a magazine anymore!!
Nature has so much more to offer :)
Keep well dear Mariette an enjoy your day!

You are so right about nature; the animal kingdom NEVER will pose like that. They stay true and will not become low-grade fake beings!
Thanks for your visit and hugs to you.

Ja, das Begriff Mode ist genau so wie man selber bestimmt.
Die Wirklichkeit kann man am besten selber eintragen.

  7. An interesting observation for sure ~~ I do watch how my body/legs/feet are positioned when photos are being snapped and know it makes a difference! Happy Tuesday, dear Mariette! ( Carl is still managing diabetes type2 beautifully)

So glad that all is well with Carl and let's all keep it that way. Life is good.

Guess all intelligent people can see through that! They sure make fools of themselves by looking very stupid. That's their problem.

  9. I rather prefer the poses of the models on the 2nd and 3rd photos. When watching fashion shows the models always seem to be "angry" or maybe "hungry", no smiles, far too thin...
I rather liked the old models, a bit more meat on them and more stylish as you say.

    1. Dearest Sami,
Probably they are indeed very 'hungry' for reality! But they do it for money and follow what is being dictated. Guess the majority of us is not in awe and will not buy because of such stupidity!

      Mariette

  10. Haha, you are right! The leg position in Neiman Marcus catalog is kind of weird. But I do see that position from time to time. Now I wonder why they do that! I like the 2nd position best. They look more natural and elegant!

    1. Dearest Tamago,
Well, that 'dictated' change is not always better. True elegance never changes and a friendly smile goes a long way! Eventually that will turn around but let them act silly... it does not have any impact on me nor my style.

  12. Dearest Mariette; Oh, how intriguing to read your observation♪ I love their Smiles in the last picture. No, the legs were placed not so elegantly in the first picture with no smile. I'll try to watch the fashion show next time we have on TV checking your points :-)

  13. Mariette Hello!
How about you've been. Thanks for your visits and for asking. Actually I have been ill with 'condition', you know situations ... but I always give my blogger around and visited and I can read some of the many entrances of different blogs. 14. Certainly the world of modeling is one such variant poses as changing ... those will have to do with the times? because as you say if you look at advertising in previous years mostly poses, faces and expressions of the models were more expressive positive .A times I've seen so thin models with unconventional makeup I just do not focus on the product if not in the model, bad publicity !? greetings!

    1. Dearest Rose Marie,
Guess your observations about years past showing more positive expressions is right. Nowadays we are forced to look at some very angry, rather cold models. Wonder when they will sort things out again...

    1. Dearest Michiko,
Yes you are so right about usual models being in perfect shape and not looking stupid. That's at least the best way for presenting yourself to the world. Don't know if they will improve it in the future; they better go back to the elegance and normality.
Good to hear that you functioned well and had some good golfing.
Hugs and love from both of us.
