{Part VII of Husband Pieter's Trip to East Asia - Lama Temple in Beijing, China}

This will be the last post about Beijing, China...
A visit to the Lama Temple or Yonghegong Lamasery as it is also called.
It's not really Chinese but the Lama Temple is a favorite place to visit in Beijing.
It is in fact a Mongolian-Tibetan Buddhist temple with surrounding buildings.
This Lama Temple originally served as residence for court eunuchs. Click the following link for more info: Eunuchs as Imperial servants in dynastic China - Chinasage
Imperial roof decoration man riding bird, nine beasts, immortal figure, and dragon.
Very different architecture here.
You can find more pictures on TripAdvisor about Lama Temple (Yonghegong)
Looks like an entrance and mostly bikes are 'parked' here...
Of course that caught husband Pieter's attention as it made him feel like being back in The Netherlands!
Some of the team members...
It sure looks like a lovely day...
In Pieter's one-week diary that he managed to keep up with, he wrote that at the end of March 25, they ended the day with a lovely dinner, consisting of 27 courses.
But we all know that Chinese are artists in preparing lovely little bite-size dishes!

Goodbye Beijing!

Next will be about Countryside North of Beijing China...

  3. Hello Mariette, Those temple complexes that have built up over centuries are fascinating. They can be overwhelming as there is so much to catch the eye--deities, roof tiles, elaborate carvings, gilding, etc. Often when I visit temples I try to concentrate on just one or two features.

  8. Such great pictures! The roof decoration looks remarkable! Bikes are something that remind me of Japan, too :-) Wow, 27-course dinner...! Wonder what it's like, but it must be fun to have various kinds of small dishes.
Happy Friday, Mariette. Have a wonderful weekend!

  10. Oh my, what a great trip exotic China my friend. Pieter's pics are awesome too.
How cute all the parked bikes reminded him of the Netherlands, so cute. The 27 course dinner sounds like a whole lit, but I'm sure very little is served. My hubby told me once he and his partner, back when he had the ceramic company, in Italy they had 40 small courses.
Hope you are both enjoying the weekend.

  14. 27 courses. Wow! Of course, I'm sure it was done just right. Not in huge portions like in the States. Wonderful photos from the past.
