{189 Countries Visited - Welcome Saint Pierre and Miquelon}

Thank you ever so much for the sweet comments yesterday, on my dear Daddy's 92nd Birthday. We did talk via Skype on the iPhone and Dad was in high spirits. Brother Martin and his wife Bets had picked up Dad's sister, living 30 km away, and on the way home they also picked up Dad's brother who lives 12 km away. Several other brothers did visit and luckily Mom was home too, as she had early dialysis for that day. Lots of laughter Dad told me and that is good if they have fun sharing old stories. Of course my siblings did visit, they live all in my hometown, except one brother who's about two hours away. He would come in later as he first had a business meeting. It's only the two of us that live in another continent.
Okay, here I welcome my 189th Visiting Country | Saint Pierre and Miquelon...
They sure do have a pretty flag!
So where is this country located?
SAINT PIERRE AND MIQUELON is located in Northern North America, islands in the North Atlantic Ocean, south of Newfoundland (Canada).
Frankly speaking; I had no clue... Did any of you know this country?
You can click on the above hyperlink for more info.

{186 Countries Visited - Welcome Burkina Faso}

It is a pleasure to welcome another new visiting country to my blog; Burkina Faso from West Africa. There has been one more in-between but I missed it... Sorry for that!

This will not be a long post as I am in a grieving mood. The 30 year old son of my dear friend went to heaven today. They are close like family and in June, Pieter and I said our fare-well as we knew he would go to heaven soon. This brave young man lost the battle of brain cancer with his lovely wife and family at his side.
Welcome Burkina Faso!

Don't forget my Worldwide GIVEAWAY, you find it to the right on my sidebar at the top... Just click it.
Good luck.

{184 Countries Visited and Info about Google+ Custom URL}

Wow, on Halloween I had Country 184 visiting. A Big Welcome to the Aland Islands! I also would like to share some Google+ data with you and how to create your own Google+ Custom URL.
October 31, Aland Islands visited.
Any guess where that is?
In the Baltic Sea near Sweden and Finland and the language spoken is Swedish.
Today I did check my Google Analytics and found an interesting surprise that I want to show you.
Both, my Zen Cart powered on line boutique: Mariette's Back to Basics and my Mariette's Back to Basics.blogspot.com do have a Google Analytics number. This is important so you can track what you are doing. That's what I like to show you with the following screenshot...
Traffic to my blog is being generated by:
1. google.com
2. blogger.com and
3. plus.url.google.com or Google+ that is.
Are you using google+ already?
For the four months that I have been using it, I am impressed so far by its ranking 3.

To those that not yet know how this works, I will show you my Google+ URL:

https://plus.google.com/u/0/100490423051043047646/about That's it, a long string of numbers...
If you scroll down, you will also find my favorite blogs listed there.

BUT after I read Getting Started with Google+ Custom URLs ←click it
I did change and now it looks neat like this: google.com/+MarietteVandenMunckhofVedder
If you copy and paste that into your browser, it will take you straight to my google+  but it will be real easy to remember by anyone if not at hand.

If you like to get one yourself, go to the above link and follow the instructions; easy peasy!
Try it out, it works as shown in my Google Analytics of today, ranking 3rd in a short period of time.

{183 Countries Visited - Welcome Togo and Uzbekistan}

Not much time left for blogging, so I quickly give you an update on the total countries visited since July of 2011 when I put the Flag Counter on. Welcome Togo and Uzbekistan as the latest two countries added. That makes now 183. Thank You ALL; wherever you are!
We have probably ever flown over Uzbekistan, but certainly never visited...
Togo in West Africa is unknown territory to both of us as well. Don't think we even flew over it when flying to South Africa.
The world is getting smaller; viral but it is still a big planet for visiting it ALL.

Wishing you all a happy week and THANKS again.

Stay tuned for tutorial on how to Fix FB News Feed.

{HEARTFELT THANK YOU to ALL NEW FOLLOWERS!}

For sure you sometimes have the feeling that writing for a reason does not come easy... At the moment we are scanning old photographs from husband Pieter's family. He lost his eldest brother, only a good month ago. It is never easy for getting on with the emotional part. This week we received the album with old family photos, sent in the mail by his brother's adopted daughter. In a way, she did hand down all what was left from his parents, grandparents... Many memories, all sentimental and at times emotional. I try hard to digitalize everything and help sorting it out. Pieter did start writing his life's story for daughter Liz, in the end of June. She gave him a special book that is published for that purpose. That is in a way great therapy but it also 'owns' you as it takes so much time! Both of us are looking forward to finishing it. No more scanning of old photos and slides. Back to normal life...  Given, a normal life does exist.
For this time in our lives, the header with the blue Toile de Jouy Angels, Cherubs, is quite appropriate...
Meanwhile I just want to give a HEARTFELT THANK YOU to ALL NEW FOLLOWERS! It is much appreciated that you follow along on this hasty life's journey that we are all in together. Also a warm welcome to Barbados as country # 181; see below.
Summer is over now officially and days start to be more pleasant here.
Our roses will fluff back from the summer's heat.
THANK YOU!
This creamy, fragrant 2007 AARS winner Moondance rose is for you!
Grown in our garden for you...
Is this Moondance not a beauty?
Welcome Barbados; you are # 181 since I've installed this flag counter on July 10, 2011.

{THANK YOU Readers from all 171 Countries Visiting!}

Today I want to extend a big 'THANK YOU Readers' from all 171 Countries visiting my blog. To the loyal readers and to all those that once in a while stop by. On July 10, 2011 I did put the Flag Counter on and as of now there are 171 flags in just one year time.
On July 4, it was Lesotho that joined as Newest Country and becoming number 171.
Reaching out to the world in all its Continents is quite something for this time and age.
A quarter of a million pageviews have traveled the miles across cyber space...
Visitors from the southern hemisphere where there is mid-winter right now.
The northern hemisphere with summer to some degree. More so for some, than others.
Here in the South East it is WARM during summer, we are at the latitude of Morocco, so that does explain some.
On July 1st we had a HOT day, measured in Real Feel temperature.
The entire month of July and August will be hot here.
But we prefer heat above cold.
What is your favorite?
This was the Real Feal of 45°C (113°F) at 13:38 o'clock.
But even at 16:19 o'clock on the last day of June we reached 44°C (111.2°F)...
Are you in a HOT-SPOT too?
Wishing you a great summer and hope you stay safe of any wild fires or other natural disaster.
Once again, THANK YOU!

{17th Blog Award & 169 Countries Visited}

From Nataša, who writes the blog smilje-art by heart from the city of Pančevo in Serbia, I got my 17th Blog Award. Thank you so much for passing that on to me! Nataša is a lawyer and she lives not too far away from Belgrade, on the beautiful river Danube. We love that part of the world, especially for its melancholic classical music. When I lived and worked in Italy, near Venice, I did train several women from the former Yugoslavia. So I'm not a complete stranger to that part of the world. We also traveled to Hungary a few times, which is on the same river Danube.
This lady bug is supposed to bring good fortune...
Glad that I'm feeling better and at least I got to mention Nataša as a courtesy, for thinking of me.
Wishing all blogger friends in Eastern Europe the very best and sending lots of love over to your area.
May you all continue to make beautiful hand craft and exchange your art and culture with the world.
So many people have no idea how other countries look like, how they live, what they eat, what they do for a living.
 Nataša is a lawyer, without a job; life is not always easy over at her side of the world.
Thanks for visiting and for following. The world is big but through Internet and Blogger it is becoming small.
I am very much honored for having 407 followers and readers from 169 countries. On May 6, Gibraltar became the newest country.

It was July 10, 2011 that I put that flag counter on...
Thank you all very much!

To those that like to take this lady bug home; you are free to do so.

Wishing you a lovely Pentecost weekend and a Happy Memorial Day.

{HAPPY EASTER to all my readers in 163 countries!}

Wishing all of my readers in 163 countries a Happy Easter!
May you have a lovely family time with hopefully sunshine to brighten this day of new life even more.
A real egg with our Villeroy & Boch eggs, filled with Pelargonium Appleblossom Rosebud...
The egg is the symbol of New Life and therefore associated with Easter.
I'd like to show you also the beautiful architecture used at the Kruisherenhotel in Maastricht, The Netherlands - click: Kruisherenhotel Maastricht | Design between heaven and earth. In one of the Chateau hotels, St. Gerlach, the US President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush were staying when visiting the American War Cemetery Margraten. It truly is a Design between Heaven and Earth.
Click here for seeing how they did design an EGG in their reception.

View of the egg from above but the previous link will give you a much better idea.
We were fortunate for having toured this Camille Oostwegel Château Hotel, in October of 2005 with our Goddaughter Elvira, her parents (our dear friends) and even two Dublin, Georgia friends. Just wanted to share this with you as the symbol of the egg is relevant to this special Easter day.
Back to the Villeroy & Boch eggs..
Sheep as place card holder...
Pink Pelargonium Rosebuds now fill the egg vases from Villeroy & Boch.

HAPPY EASTER TO ALL OF YOU!

{Pearls of Wisdom}

Wow, what a feeling for having all the followers back on Blogger with the Google Friend Connect Gadget. Also the Recent Comments on the Sidebar show up again. Coming back from vacation it is never fun to find Blogger problems on top of all the other chores that are waiting for you. BUT, thanks to some Pearls of Wisdom from sweet blogger friend Rebecca from A Gathering Place (click IS YOUR FOLLOWER GADGET MISSING? - IF SO... DO THIS), I at least got the Google Friend Connect Gadget back on. THANKS sweet Rebecca; I owe you!
Scan from my saved card: CHANEL Accessoires 1996  Photographie Karl Lagerfeld
Lovely PEARLS!

Another problem I already had before I went on vacation to Curaçao was that I no longer could add or delete any blogs I follow, on my Sidebar. So I did copy all the URLs and deleted the 'broken' gadget and replaced it with a new one. Hope it will be possible now to add new URLs, or delete...
Blogger has robbed all of us from quite some precious time at one point or another.
But today I'm looking again at my followers...

The weather is great, after coming home from the tropics this is a treat! At 7:00 PM still 23°C or 73°F.
Curaçao had daily 29°C or 84°F and 25°C or 77°F at night...

March 8, I had country # 155; Bhutan from Countries Visited
This gadget has been working fine since July 10, 2011.

~~♥♥~~
Wishing you a great weekend!

{Mauritania was my 148th Country visiting on December 31, 2011}

Wow, this is so neat that since I've put my Flag Counter up on July 10, 2011 on New Year's Eve I did find my 148th country being listed! Just wanted to share this with you. The world is getting smaler and smaller, however there seem to be 210 different flags, according to Flag Counter! Ways to go...
This image shows the time, 5:20 PM on 12/31/2011 with the Newest Country being Mauritania, from West Africa.
Just click on it  to enlarge...
All 148 country flags pictured here...
Just 1 follower short of 300...

A Happy New Year to all readers, world wide and thanks for visiting!

{Post # 484 and my blog is 2 years old today!}

Today marks a very special day as on November 23 of 2009 I did launch my first blog-post about {Romancing the Home}.
At that time I was very sick, in excruciating pain and could not even get to my PC... Only a second blog-post I launched on December 13, 2009 showing our blooming {Fragrant Paperwhite Narcissus flowers in early December}. Together with a reply to Johanna Gehrlein about her question.
By the end of the year I was walking on crutches...

On January 9 of 2010, I was in the hospital being almost totally paralyzed with very high fever that they couldn't knock down at first.

It was on January 11, that I cried in my hospital bed; on the birthday of my still born sister 'Mariet' who would have been almost 13 months older than I am.

I told her that I was NOT yet ready to see her in heaven...
After four days in the hospital they put me on Prednisone and the pain went away.
Again I could MOVE! What a joy.
Being diagnosed with a very rare auto immune disease, I was now on the mend!
For my sister Mariet, trying to live for her as well, I've added 'TE' behind my name.
♥♥
That's the story behind my blog's name: Mariette's Back to Basics.
Anyway, most people here in the US had difficulties pronouncing Mariet, so this works well.

~~0~~
GREAT NEWS...
As of today, I no longer need to take Prednisone!
Had my check up yesterday and things just looked fine.

Now, let's have a look at last year and this year.
Post # 148 I wrote last year on November 23.
Post # 484 is today's...

6,544 Visits came from 74 countries/territories on November 23 last year.
40,701 visits came from 146 countries/territories since last year; almost double the countries and more than 6 x as many visits.

On July 10, 2011 I did put the Flag Counter on my blog and since than it shows 138 countries.
Thank YOU for all the visits from so many countries!
Thank YOU for all the comments!
Thank YOU all 281 followers!
Looking forward to the next Blog Anniversary...

{THANKS to 166 Followers from 113 Countries!}

First of all I want to let you know that our Oxalis NEVER do yield a 4-leaf 'lucky' clover...
BUT, I certainly feel very lucky for being healthy again and being happy! Officially I did start my blog in November of 2009, but soon I got that ill that I had to halt my blog till I was no longer paralyzed from a rare auto immune disease. But now things work well and I enjoy reading all your comments and blogs; if time permits. You all know by now that our garden and home do take up quite some time and attention.
On April 2nd of 2010, I did put Google Analytics on my blog. Just did capture this history of one year for you to view. Sincerely I want to THANK all of you, for reading my blog and for visiting our garden, home and events. Tomorrow I will list a GIVEAWAY as my token of appreciation! Stay tuned...
Just on one single day there were 35 countries visiting...
I feel honored for seeing that many countries. Far more than the countries I've traveled to or worked in as a consultant. You can see my countries visited at the top of my blog, under Followers.
113 countries in one year with 15,849 visits, according to Google Analytics.
One special Thank You to dear Friend Johanna from Silber-und-Rosen-Shop (Silver+Roses) who was the VERY first to leave a comment on my blog and has been a regular ever since. She is the author of a great book that she did autograph for me with a special message... I've done my 3rd blog about her, you can read that here: {Splendid book about Silver Rose Flatware}
That's a lot of page views: 59,025...
Looks like our lives are going uphill again. Me being paralyzed in January, last year and slowly getting on track and Pieter having his open heart surgery in September...

THANKS ALL FOR READING MY HUMBLE BLOG!
