{Table Setting for Friends}

Saturday evening, we had a dinner for six friends at our home. Just like to share with you my table setting. From husband Pieter, I had a dozen white roses and in our garden we just found enough Fragrant double Obdam narcissus for putting in the individual Delft white picture frames, as a place setting. We had heavy rain on Saturday but inside it was cozy.
  • Real Wax Carved Rose tea lights (battery operated Flameless Candles) in white, when lit they look yellowish.
  • White ceramic roses as center piece, together with the Baccarat Harcourt pitcher with real white roses.
  • You can see this Baccarat Harcourt pitcher in a previous post, see link below.

  • Gumbo Soup spoon is Bridal Rose by Alvin and other flatware is my Gero Zilmeta 528 Menuet.
  • Baccarat Piccadilly stemware.
  • French Pillivuyt charger...
  • Le Jacquard Français tablecloth.

  • Table got set for 8 of us.
  • Before I placed a fork to the left of this plate, I took the photo...
  • Don't you like to have cozy dinners with friends when the weather is cold, windy and rainy?

{First Week of Advent 2012}

We already have started in our First Week of Advent for 2012... On Sunday morning the 1st candle got lit at Church and this brings us into the Advent mood; leading towards Christmas.
Traditionally the mood of Advent is expressed in the liturgical color of violet but I used red...
In its earliest form, beginning in France, Advent was a period of preparation for the Feast of the Epiphany.
Fresh rosemary twigs emit a lovely fragrance...
Candle is French from Point A La Ligne.
Red rose ribbon is also French.
Vase is French, by Baccarat
Pineapple doily is hand crocheted by my sister-in-law Elly.

Wishing you all a meaningful First Week of Advent for 2012.

{French Vintage Emile Monier Angels Brooch Plated Bronze}

For YOU I found a rare French Vintage Emile Monier (1883-1970) Angels Brooch in Plated Bronze. It is rather large with 3.2 cm or 1.3 inch and it does have the cornucopia hallmark in the back, next to the letters BR, indicating that it is silver over bronze. The perfectly working pin has a unique safety catch. As usual, this piece is available at my Zen Cart powered on line boutique: Mariette's Back to Basics.
Lovely Angels!
Emile Monier (1883-1970) was a great artist.
His signature on top of the Angels' heads and next to their wings...
Perfect working order pin with unique safety catch.
French Cornucopia (horn of plenty) hallmark with letters BR meaning it is silver over bronze.
Below I show you an identical French vintage silver plated bronze medal from a different artist.
Just came across this one, when doing some research on mine...
Ruby Lane.com
Just click on the above hyperlink for checking out the exact same cornucopia hallmark.
They do list it as being from 1930.

Sorry Sold out...

Does any of you have some silver plated bronze brooches?

{My French Ormolu Jewelry Box & Silver Angels}

Just have to show off this gorgeous French Ormolu Jewelry Box with my Silver Angels... Purchased from one Blogger I Admire: Beth from Salvage Life. Beth is located in Long Beach, California. At this difficult time of a downward economy, where the unemployment rate is very high and the people receiving food stamps in the US of A is up by 46% over the past 4 years, I applaud women like Beth! Sure, we all need to pay attention to the future, we need a true leader that brings us out of the present situation, but for the time being we are in it. Both Pieter and I have voted on Friday, October 19, and we hope that ALL Americans will exercise their voting right. Now let me show you my treasure:
Photo taken outside, on our balcony.
After husband Pieter did clean up the beautiful repousse roses that are in Ormolu or Gilt Metal, this is what I got. My silver angel cherub pill box with gilt goes so beautifully with it.
Just LOVE those repousse roses!
Luckily I did spot in time what it was and obtained this beautiful beveled glass jewelry box.
Having lots of books on the subject for educating yourself, always pays off in the end.
We only needed to replace the bottom glass as it was missing.
This jewelry box makes a gorgeous display for my Silver Angels that are for sale at my Spectrenoir boutique on line, free shipping!
Those cherub angel crosses you see in this box, are already sold...
All ingredients together; perfect light from sunshine; real roses and repousse ormolu roses.
Plus my favorite of angels and cherubs...
Don't you love them too?
We all need a guardian angel and even as a nation we are in dire need of one!
The Raphael angel, bottom right is sold too...
Crosses are sold, one is upside down and one shows the front. They were identical.
The alphabet angels are solid 925 silver charms from Giovanni Raspini Charms & Co, Italy from the heart of Tuscany. See link below post.
Roses, Lace, Angels and Cherubs
Who does NOT love that combination?
AngelsnRosebuds
The above WAS my Twitter name and you know now WHY...
Wishing you a blessed day!

{Crochet Edging on Antique French Knotted Filet Lace}

Yesterday I did write about my new SUPER POWER READERS for Fine Needlework. Here I show you how I painstakingly finished off the Crochet Edging on an antique French Knotted Filet Lace embroidery with cherubs. Only using my +2.00 reading glasses. This was in the end of February while on vacation in Curaçao.
Using the DMC Cordonnet Spécial with a VERY fine crochet hook.
How would I have loved to use my SUPER POWER READERS here!
DMC Cordonnet Spécial in a size 80. It is a mercerized 6-cord cotton and one of the very finest.
Used for tatting and lace crochet around linen batiste handkerchiefs.
The crochet hook is only 0.75 mm. You do pinch yourself with it, as it is that sharp and fine.
 The reason that I did add a crochet edging on this antique French knotted (by hand, like knotted fishing nets!) filet lace is to have it framed between acrylic sheets.
Sheltering it from getting soiled and thus preserving a nice heirloom.
From Milan, Italy came my transparent acrylic bolts & nuts.
You will see the finished project in another post!
Yeah, for doing the linen stitch on such knotted net, I definitely would have needed my SUPER POWER READERS. One can only admire the woman's hands that created this in the previous age(s)...
Such fine work in the linen stitch!
Below this post is a link to a blogger friend who owns a tablecloth with cherubs, done on machine made net. Have a look at it!
Closeup of the knotted net and the embroidered linen stitch + my minor accomplishment of the crochet edging all around...
Laundered and pressed it is now ready to be framed.
You will see that in another post!
Does any of you have some antique filet lace pieces?

Filet Lace also known as Embroidery on Knotted Net, Lacis, Filet Brodé and Point Compté) is a needle lace created by darning on a ground of knotted net or netting. Shown on this link is the linen stitch on knotted net.

You can see the marking: Made in France...
It has a brass snuffer cap.
The Lampe Berger marking...
