Kitties are SO LOYAL!
Our Spooky boy remained with his Papi till the very END...
And YES, they mourn!!!
April 21, around 2:00 PM Spooky looking so worried as he stayed near his Papi during his nap on the sofa...
Kitties sense what is going on and of course the oxygen machine added to that.
Like a magnet next to his Papi
April 25, at 5:52 AM looking at me very worried when the ambulance took his Papi away a 2nd time...
On May1, at 11:00 PM on the mattress topper of the hospital bed... Spooky stayed with his Papi till the very end!
They were supposed to remove the hospital bed next day but they did NOT.
It was a painful reminder to me and to the kitties...
Spooky very sad...
Mami, I want to sleep here a 2nd night...
On May 3, Spooky reading the sweet notes with fresh flowers from friends and family...
Will miss my kitty body guard for that time!
Such loyal and loving souls...

Spooky is such a cutey and all black. How he must miss his Papi. And then just months later you leave for a few days. It must have been difficult on all 3 of the kitties until you returned safely to them. Lynn and Precious XX
ReplyDeleteDearest Lynn and Precious,
DeleteSpooky is a cute boy with very long arms and legs, he took after his svelte Mommy.
They are so loyal and know what is going on. Yes, they are sad when I have to leave but the cat sitter is also like family. Those kids come often to help me out and the kitties are happy.
Hugs,
Mariette
Oh, what a treasure Spooky is, Mariette! Loyal to his loving Papi until the very end. Yes, cats and dogs can sense clearly when something is wrong with their "people." I'm so glad you still have your kitties there with you. Blessings always!
ReplyDeleteDearest Martha Jane,
DeleteA lot of people will never know what dear treasures our pets ARE.
Moments like this, they are there with you, to comfort you and to watch over you.
Sure, they grieved but are very close to me now.
Hugs,
Mariette
Te hacen una buena compañía y además son muy cariñosos.
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo.
Querida Antónia,
DeleteOh, son increíblemente cariñosos y leales.
Abrazos,
Mariette
Hello Mariette, I think of Pieter and you all the time, but just today I was filing some music files that included some of the Dutch organist Cor Steyn playing, and I thought that Pieter especially as a organ player, and you too probably knew him. Organs are often serious instruments, but Steyn knew how to extract the most entertainment from the instrument.
ReplyDelete--Jim
Dearest Jim,
DeleteThank you for bringing back fond childhood memories to me. Sure, Pieter knew him as did my Parents.
He was quite a talent!
Hugs,
Mariette
Hello again, I checked on Youtube, and they have lots of Steyn's playing, including this fun piece that was one of his specialties, Monkey Tricks. As you said, he was quite a talent:

Dearest Jim,
DeleteThat indeed is a fun piece and it is incredible what Cor Steyn is doing with that organ! Thanks for sharing.
Hugs,
Mariette
Spooky is such a good and loyal boy. I often wondered exactly how much they understand, probably a lot more than we give them credit for. I agree, of course they grieve too.
ReplyDeleteDearest Jackie and Ivor,
DeleteSpooky has been loyal till the very end and now he acts as my bodyguard and he makes the rounds to check for monsters and such. He sure watches over things.
They have that mysterious sixth sense and just KNOW and with that are a lot smarter than most humans know.
They grieve!
Hugs,
Mariette
Non-human animals have such amazing senses, far beyond ours! Spooky obviously loved Pieter very much and I'm sure was a comfort to him before he passed. ❤️
ReplyDeleteDearest Kim,
DeleteYou are right in that and our pets especially know all about us and our daily routine and life.
He was there with Pieter and even wanted to stay in the office where the hospital bed got placed... He was always with Pieter outside, wherever he went, Spooky showed up to help and accompany him.
Loyal till the very end!
Hugs,
Mariette
Spooky was so very devoted to his Papi. I think sleeping on the bed the 2nd night gave Spooky some understanding of what had happened.
ReplyDeleteHugs to you and the kitties.
Cecilia
Dearest Cecilia,
DeleteSpooky sure was devoted to his Papi and is now a magnet to me. They are so loyal and fully know what is going on. Always feel so sad for kitties that end up at the humane society after losing their human...
Hugs,
Mariette
Cannot imagine the grief and pain that everyone feels in this instance.
ReplyDeleteHugs and purrs.
Dearest Vicky,
DeleteYes, and seeing your kitties grieve doesn't make it any easier...
But they have turned around by now and are calm.
Hugs,
Mariette
This was so sad, many people don't realise that our pets mourn when they lose a human
ReplyDeleteDearest Jo-Anne,
DeleteYes, they mourn and just imagine if they lose their human and get dropped at the humane society...
Hugs,
Mariette
Oh, my friend from afar, what a precious little soul your Spooky is. We get so much love from our pets, yet they feel the same about us. Spooky's sadness is proof of his grief. I am so very happy you two have each other as your miss your beloved. P.S. I love his name!
ReplyDeleteDearest Billie Jo,
DeleteSpooky is very precious and their love and loyalty is so great!
The first photo shows Spooky so worried about his Papi, nine days before his death...
Spooky and his two sisters cling to me like magnets—especially today as I'd been away for another night to go to Savannah for a medical check up.
Hugs,
Mariette
Spooky is adorable and such a sad look of concern. Oh yes, kitties grieve just like the rest of us.
ReplyDeleteDearest Terry,
DeleteYes, kitties have an extraordinary perception and know what is going on.
They grieve and show us how they feel. Spooky even lost some weight... he's gained a bit and is now like a magnet, attached to me. His two sisters are too.
Hugs,
Mariette
Hi Mariette! Animals also mourn, and seek out the past. My brother's dog got sick and went away. Their cat is still looking for a dog.
ReplyDeleteDearest Anne,
DeleteYes, that is so true. My teacher from high school when he passed away, his German shepherd was constantly laying on his grave and refused to eat...
Pet siblings like dog and cat also do become very close and miss each other!
Hugs,
Mariette
I will tell you that tears came up reading this. I "know" your boys and love them very much. Spooky had to adjust to losing his Papi. And he was with his Papi to the end of their time together, I hope Katie is with me just as Spooky was with his Papi.
ReplyDeleteLove to you, and to the kitties. xo
Dearest Katie Isabella,
DeleteIt indeed is quite emotional for observing their actions and also their sadness and mourning.
Spooky was so very loyal and stayed with his Papi till his last breath.
He lost some weight during this time but is back to his usual self. He is very affectionate with me and demands lap time, even on top of my MacBook. That's okay, love our kitties. They missed me on Monday and Spunky with Tiggy have become magnets since I got home...
Hugs,
Mariette
Spooky is adorable. Such a sweet story of loyalty.
ReplyDeleteDearest Lorrie,
DeleteYes, that was pure loyalty and the fact that Spooky and his siblings were born here in our home of course made for very special bonding.
Hugs,
Mariette
It is absolutely true that our dear pets mourn the loss of those they dearly love, their fur companions and their human ones, and their grief is clear in many ways and often lasting. Our Zoey, sat in my husbands office ~ his chair, on his desk, "in" his in-basket for weeks and weeks after he passed away. She was his heart cat, he was hers. This was 12 years ago and those images are forever embedded in my mind. I know they now are together, as time always works its magic. The feelings and emotions that develop and grow between a human and an animal are real and cannot be denied.
ReplyDeleteDearest Ann,
DeleteIt is so true that our pets mourn and their love and loyalty is unimaginable. Those that never loved a pet, have no inkling.
We both loved ours and visa versa and now they just cling to me...
Hugs,
Mariette
Of course kitties can sense what has happened. One vet told us that the scent of the person who has passed changes afterwards. So Spooky, the little darling, was right there and he knew. I'm glad you are with him and can console each other in your grief. Bless you both.
ReplyDeleteDearest Wendy,
DeleteYes, our kitties know quite well what is going on. Spooky was with Pieter and Tiggy–Tiger sat in my desk chair, next to the hospital bed observing... Spunky did not stay that close but of course she too knew what was going on. Now all three siblings are like magnets to me.
Hugs,
Mariette
Animals know everything. Your kitten knew what was happening, he is there watching his family.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are in good health.
xoxo
Dearest Cristina,
DeleteExactly — with their sixth sense they know everything!
He sure watches over his family, always has done so.
The kitties and I are not in good health but we have each other and that is comforting.
Hugs,
Mariette
This is heartbreaking. I'd be willing to bet Spooky knew more than the doctors did!
ReplyDeleteDearest Melissa,
DeleteIt was heartbreaking to observe and to read from Spooky's eyes what was going on.
You are so right in that statement. Pieter was only 2 days into hospice care and he got the assignment of twice weekly a nurse stopping by to take his vitals... Four days later I argued that he needed a hospital bed and a bedside toilet and more checkups than twice weekly. They never did. They underestimated an intelligent Pieter who always smiled and NEVER complained. Spooky knew it and he looked so worried.
Hugs,
Mariette
Spooky is very handsome and sounds like a sweetie. Cats are such a comfort. I am sure you two are helping one another with your grief. XO
ReplyDeleteDearest Ellen,
DeleteSpooky is like his Angel brother Dido very handsome indeed and has silky fur. Oh, they are the very best for comfort as they KNOW how you feel and what is going on. They too need more cuddle time and love for getting through their grieving period.
Hugs,
Mariette
