it is oddly beautiful. Is it a rare fungus? Lynn and Precious
ReplyDeleteDearest Lynn and Precious,
DeleteNo it is not a rare one and you find it anywhere old tree trunks are being decomposed. This one was an exceptional perfect one and showing the lacquered part so well.
Hugs,
Mariette
It does look exactly like it has been lacquered, indeed, Mariette. God's creation never ceases to amaze me! Blessings!
ReplyDeleteDearest Martha Jane,
DeleteThat is so very true—God's creations around us we must admire.
Hugs,
Mariette
Yes, lacquered and highly polished up. Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteDearest Terry,
DeleteThis sure was an exceptional beauty.
Hugs,
Mariette
Strange to me but interesting
ReplyDeleteDearest Jo-Anne,
DeleteThey grow only on decomposing wood or tree stumps.
Hugs,
Mariette
Very lacquered looking! I've never seen one like it.
ReplyDeleteDearest Lorrie,
DeleteWell, they ware quite common, also in your region but you must look for them on old tree trunks or stumps as they decay the dying wood. That is there job in nature to digest all that what humans and animals can't.
Hugs,
Mariette
Very pretty! Is the 'laquer' a liquid exudate?
ReplyDeleteI shall have to check on our old tree stumps for them here.
Dearest Ingrid,
DeleteThe lacquer is part of this species' natural appearance!
If the tree stumps are still fresh they might not 'yet' show.
Hugs,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette; First of all, thank you very much let me know the word "polypore" (p;) I checked the word with PC, Yes; its brownish part really looks like a kind of lacquered haha. I was happy reading your new post. I DO hope you are doing FINE both "physically & mentally". Temperature is getting a little bit comfortable here. I was a bit busy taking care of the weeds outside; not my favorite housework. Loots of LOVE, from Japan.
ReplyDeleteDearest Miyako,
DeleteGood for you to check the word polypore, meaning pores on the underside.
You are fortunate for still being able to weed yourself as I can't do this anymore.
But still grateful for being alive the way I am!
Nights indeed are getting a lot cooler over the past couple of days.
Hugs,
Mariette
mariette…this mushroom looks like it has barbecue sauce on it 😺😺😺‼️‼️💙💚 hugs to you and the crew ‼️😺
ReplyDeleteDearest Laura and Mackerull,
DeleteThis is the funniest definition I've EVER heard!
Makes Pieter laugh in heaven I bet...
Hugs,
Mariette
Funny looking mushroom. We also grow the same ones.
ReplyDeleteDearest Anne,
DeleteYes, they are quite common and we both knew them from The Netherlands.
Hugs,
Mariette
That is, indeed, a strange looking mushroom. It DOES look lacquered. A unique find for Pieter. Mushrooms are expensive at the store. I just bought a bunch of them for a dish my son is preparing - they were $5.
ReplyDeleteHappy October days, dear Mariette.
~Sheri
Dearest Sheri,
DeleteThis is one of many wild mushrooms and quite common.
Not to be compared with the edible ones that are grown commercially...
Hugs,
Mariette
Hello Mariette, It does look lacquered. Is the surface hard and brittle, or does it only look that way? Nature is indeed amazing in its infinite variety and beauty.
ReplyDelete--Jim
Dearest Jim,
DeleteLooking lacquered and it is very hard, not brittle at all.
Nature is an endless amazement!
Hugs,
Mariette
Tiene una forma curiosa. Muy buen hallazgo.
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo.
Querida Antonia,
DeleteTal vez luchó por crecer...
Abrazos,
Mariette
Thought it was an insect or sea-creature at first, but I looked it up; what an interesting fungi find.
ReplyDeleteDearest Vicky,
DeleteIt is a rather common fungus which exists the world over.
Also in Asia it is known as a medicinal mushroom.
Hugs,
Mariette
Mariette
This is a perfect one.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing me Taiwan Bonsai.
Dearest RTC,
DeleteIt sure is and you're quite welcome for sharing the Taiwan Bonsai post from my Pieter.
Hugs,
Mariette
Very unusual and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteDearest Peter,
DeleteNot so unusual in our field but beautiful for sure!
Hugs,
Mariette
Wow, what a cool find!
ReplyDeleteIt really does look freshly lacquered—so shiny!
Pieter had a great eye for spotting these.
The underside is just as fascinating.
Hugs and blessings, dearest Mariette
Dearest Veronica,
DeleteYes, Pieter would spot those things easily and then he photographed them.
Hugs,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette; Let me say "Thank you very much for your sweet comment." I AM hoping you are doing fine. My husband has his brother, his nephews, & nieces. My close relatives left who are making contact is mainly only my mother's sister. I cannot believe time flies really fast, haha.
ReplyDeletePlease take care. Here is your Japanese friend hoping you perfect recovery!
Lot's of Love; Miyako;
Dearest Miyako,
DeleteYou are very welcome and your husband is a very talented wood worker!
So only your husband has immediate family but you only an elderly aunt.
Yes, the decades indeed fly very fast!
Hugs,
Mariette
Very interesting!!! First time I see such a mushroom!!!
ReplyDeleteMany hugs,
Marie-Anne
Dearest Marie–Anne,
DeleteWell, not for us of course as mushrooms have been our job, though not so much these Asian medicinal ones.
Hugs,
Mariette
Wow, that is amazing, Mariette! Is the "lacquered" part hard, like lacquer?
ReplyDeleteDearest Kevin,
DeleteYes, it sure IS!
Hugs,
Mariette
somehow I missed this....very interesting find by Pieter. First I thought it was maple syrup
ReplyDeleteHugs Cecilia
Dearest Cecilia,
DeleteNo problem and this is also an Asian medicinal mushroom, claiming to have cancer fighting compounds. Pieter and I never supported such claims as it is mainly money oriented...
Hugs,
Mariette
