{Our Gardenias}

  • We do have so many different Gardenias that I would like to share one more time their fragrant and gracious blossoms with you. They might bloom again in the fall but for now we have had quite a crop.
  • In a previous blog post from last year: {Heavenly Gardenia Jasminoides 'Aimee Yoshioka'} you can find some information on the Gardenia Aimee Yoshioka as well as on the Gardenia Miami Supreme.
  • Those are the largest blooming varieties we have.

{My Daddy - Papa}

  • Just like to share a Dutch poem with you that I've finished in my own words, following the lines that were done by an unknown. This is quite appropriate for Father's Day. Below the original text in Dutch will follow.

FATHER
4 years: My Daddy can do anything.
7 years: My Dad knows a lot, a whole lot.
8 years: My Dad doesn't know it all.
12 years: Oh, well - naturally - Father doesn't know that either.
14 years: Father? Hopelessly old-fashioned.
21 years: Oh, that man is so out-of-date. What did you expect?
25 years: He knows a little bit about it - but not much.
30 years: Maybe we ought to find out what Dad thinks.
35 years: Let's ask Dad what he would do before we make a decision.
40 years: I wonder what Dad would have thought about that? He was pretty smart.
50 years: My Dad knew absolutely everything.
60 years: I'd give anything if Dad were here so I could talk this over with him. I really miss him.
65 years: I wish, I still could talk this through with Dad...

  • Dad had come along on November 11, of 1990, to help us move our belongings from the storage into our new home.
  • Pieter and I came home from our consulting work in Indonesia and Dad joined us in Amsterdam, (where Pieter bought him the ticket) for the last leg of the journey home on Royal Dutch Airlines.

  • Columnist Uncle Bo Whaley took this photo from my Dad (Papa), Pieter and me, for his column in the local paper. That was on Tuesday, November 27, of 1990. We had worked hard for two weeks and created again a nest. On December 6, I wrote the following for Dad:
Good that I don't have to wait till I'm 65 for wanting to fill in those last lines, but that we both have the chance to do things together now - talking - asking etc.
Papa, as well as Pieter, did not have the blessing to personally live through this, as they both lost their Dad long before, but thanks to God I still have that opportunity. Anyhow, I have a Papa who knows where and how we live in our fine new nest in Dublin... Close to dear friends with a warm heart. However far away from home, in this vast and at the same time small world. Family you do miss... but therefore you have nature and this climate and also the many friends that make up for it. May it be soothing for the family that they have the calming reassurance in knowing we got a new 'home sweet home' here. I take pride in the fact that I learned from home, how to work hard. Thanks for this example! That has come in handy the last couple of years. If it all depends on the foundation I got from home, than it will work out fine with us. It sure was a good starting point. May both of you be given the joy of living many more years in your dear home! So well deserved together.
Papa, thanks a million for all your help in and around our last home and garden. Your footsteps, voice etc. will never vanish from Dublin. This also on behalf of many friends. After all, it is quite an accomplishment for a market gardener from Horst for being able to sing a solo in the Church of our friends, in their language. Even more so, for making it into the local newspaper! The very first time you both were greeted by radio here in Dublin. That has been very well rounded off this time. You can be proud of it!!!
Lots of love from your daughter Mariette and son–in–law Pieter and may you have fond memories of this  beautiful (short) time for years to come.

  • Next day Papa flew back with us from Atlanta to Amsterdam on KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. Pieter and I both continued on to Jakarta; back to work...
VADER
14 jaar - Vader? Hopeloos ouderwets!

{My Giovanni Raspini in Vogue Italy - Jeans & Bling Blings}

My Giovanni Raspini jewelry got mentioned in Vogue Italy - Jeans & bling blings. Indeed, a cute idea for using charms on jeans, as seen from the picture below. They do mention Giovanni Raspini silver jewelry, which I am selling. Look at: VOGUE Jeans & bling blingsthe link to Vogue Italy and click for more pictures with bling blings. This silver jewelry from Giovanni Raspini Charms & Co you can find at my: Spectrenoir. Learn from Mariette, with some tips below these photos.
On June 3-6 Giovanni Raspini did participate in Las Vegas at the Trade Fair.
They also got an all new website; check it out and I can get you any item from their collection, if not already in my boutique.
This is the invitation card that I got in the mail, signed by Master Giovanni Raspini himself.
If charms all over your jeans are a bit costly, here is another idea to  actually pin some on...
You could mix in some vintage charms and even add some color.
Safety pin can be used on a skirt as well.
Safety pin is totally sold out...

Happy bling blings...
