Yes, we have been in Toronto in 1986, for the 6th North American Mushroom Conference on July 20-23.
Pieter was the speaker on July 22 and also a panelist.

Notice the Canadian way of writing 'Harbour' - just like we studied our Oxford English!
Now it is called The Westin Harbour Castle, Toronto

Just to the side of the Old City Hall is the Toronto Eaton Centre where we went in June, like we did in July of 1986
Me, studying the directory at Eaton Centre.
We walked back to our hotel in about half an hour; just before the rain!
That was a nice Sunday afternoon for going back to areas where our foot steps were.

What a wonderful flash back to Toronto ... living the here the changes are gradual over time and one barely recalls how things use to be - it's nice to look back once in a while and see how much things really have changed. Especially along the water front. I had to smile as I looked at the photo of the front of city hall I was looking to see if I could find you or Pieter ..and that pink "dot" I thought may be you or perhaps it was just a scenic shot ... then I read your caption - and I smiled. Wishing you both a wonderful week ahead. xo Blessings, Celia M. HighHeeledLife.com
ReplyDeleteDear Mariette,
ReplyDeleteHow fun to retrace your footsteps and have the photos to compare! I have always wanted to see this city - maybe someday. It seems a wonderful place for a conference, too. I really like the glass ceiling with the birds! :) Lovely photos. xo Karen

Dimi...
In het straatbeeld is niet veel veranderd, alleen de mensen zijn ouder geworden :-). Leuk om het Eaton Centre weer te zien.
ReplyDeleteMy dear Mariette! Indeed I do enjoy going back to places I have been to previously. I had my first child in Bremerhaven and we took a tour wherever our Volkswagen would take us 4 months after he was born, to show Erich off! We went from Bremerhaven all the way to Venice with many stops between to show him to kind folks who were so nice as we moved about all over Europe and the middle east every few weeks. Thank you for the welcome visit. I have had to have the excellent nursing care of Katie for these three weeks and probably a little longer still. It was so good to hear from you. xo
ReplyDeleteI love to go back to places where I've been before and I loved them, always nice too see some progress.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the photo comparisons between then and now! Old City Hall looks such a gorgeous building. And I love the bird exhibit in Eaton Centre. It's always fun to go back to places I've been before. I worked in Orlando, FL for a while. Then came to Atlanta. After a while I visited Orlando for business trip and was surprised how much the city changed! Looks like Orlando, as an tourist town, keeps changing all the time!
ReplyDeletebeautiful city!
ReplyDeleteOh, ich dachte zuerst, Ihr wart jetzt dort, liebe Mariette. Gigantisch! Diese hohen Häuser, da würde ich Platzangst kriegen! ;-)
ReplyDeleteLiebe Grüße
Sara

ReplyDeleteSending Lots of Love and Hugs from Japan to my Dear friend in America, xoxo Miyako*
It's interesting that you comment on the spelling of "harbour." It is of course correct. Other than the United States and a few of its satellites the entire rest of the English-speaking world follows the original British etymology.
