About Me

My photo
Here I would love to share with you our travels and adventures as international mushroom consultants. MEMOIRS about husband Pieter Vedder, who was a SCIENTIFIC PIONEER in Mushroom Cultivation Education. His practical handbook is in 8 languages and is called the MUSHROOM BIBLE: https://mariettesbacktobasics.blogspot.com/2020/08/modern-mushroom-growing-2020-harvesting.html

Pieter in Suspenders Then and Now

Whenever one travels, there is a chance you come upon unique finds.
Thus was the case on our trip to South Africa where husband Pieter lectured at a conference and where both of us traveled all around for visiting numerous mushroom farms.
On Monday, November 18 of 1985, we found this couture shirt of Lanvin for only $ 32.00 due to the fluctuation of the South African Rand.
Here on June 22, 1986 husband Pieter is wearing it with his white cotton pique pants and leather suspenders.
Fast forward, 24 years later, same husband, same cotton pique pants and new leather suspenders.
Now paired with an Outlet find from Last Call by Neiman Marcus at the Colonnade Outlets at Sawgrass, FL.
This is a Brioni shirt, that we found for a steal!
Husband Pieter never gained any weight, just like me; same size all the time.
The Brioni shirt needs to be worn with cuff links but Pieter got several pair.
You can also see the detail of the pique pants where I stitched the crease, so it always stays in impeccable and thus avoiding a double crease.
See previous post below.

Do you like suspenders?

  1. Hello Mariette, So we can add tailoring to your list of accomplishments. I never heard of this type of operation, and it seems complicated and difficult to execute, except perhaps for an expert. When I wore suits the tailors were amazing in their knowledge of just how to alter a garment so that it wouldn't pull, or whatever the problem was.

Lucky Pieter, as always, looks natty and impeccable, as I am sure you would too, were you in any of the photos.

    1. Dearest Jim,
Well, in my younger years I could make complete suits, not for men though!
That's my former education but as the eyes age, it is almost over with.
That crease is something that can be annoying. If a dry cleaner is not 'expert' they can cause a false crease in the wrong place. For certain pants (only the cotton ones) I've done this meticulous stitching when the pants were brand new with still sharp crease. Works well and also is easy for ironing them!
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  3. Your husband Pieter looks dapper then and now! Those suspenders are great on him.
It's wonderful both you and he keeps the same size :-)

Happy new week to you, Mariette!

  4. Deze combinatie met bretels staat Pieter goed. Ik denk niet dat ik mijn man zou aanraden bretels te dragen. Zijn tweelingbroer droeg ze onlangs en het stond 'm echt niet.
    Fijne dag, lieve groet Willy

    1. Beste Willy,
Het heeft hem altijd goed gestaan maar natuurlijk lijkt het niet goed voor íedereen.
Goed om een tweelingbroer te hebben als 'spiegel', dan kun je beter zien hoe iets er uit ziet.
      Liefs,
      Mariette

You're quite welcome Sir, they too need a good laugh at times.
We all do and such bloopers can be hilarious.
