My 3rd Home with my French DMC Rose Filet Lace Crocheted Curtains

On Saturday, October 26 of 1985, we got  our new front door hung by the carpenter and I'd already hand crocheted the French DMC Rose Filet Lace Crocheted Curtains.

Before we had a solid, metal door and I did hate to open it, as I never knew who I was opening the door to...

So we changed it for this one, with small windows, so I could look out.

Pieter had done the tedious job of hammering in the tiny brass nails that I brought over from The Netherlands. Brass, on purpose, as that would never tarnish the fine filet crochet work.

Another Mega Task accomplished.

We also put a new window in the living room, one that allowed us to look outside instead of the previous higher window in a small size!

Yes, in our previous home we also had those solid oak window shutters, made by a craftsman from Virginia. They are excellent and eco friendly, in saving energy and you can close them for privacy, if needed.

That's me, crocheting on some curtains for somebody...

(The wool Smyrna rug under the table, got hand done by me—knotted with a latch hook).

Comfy and lazy!

So, now I was happy!

Finally having my roses back and LIGHT coming inside the hall way as well.

On December 24, after having taken the curtains off, Pieter managed to give the door its first coat of paint.

On the link below this post you can see more photos, also from a couple of years later, as well as from my previous two homes' Rose Filet Lace Curtains... Also you can clearly see the pattern.

Fond memories from archiving our photo albums.

Husband Pieter Doing it ALL

Yes, over the years that we built our nests, husband Pieter had done the lion share himself.
We planned on adding a patio for privacy and for having lunch, coffee/tea outside.
So, on Tuesday, May 14 of 1985, Pieter started his VACATION...
Tiles had been shipped over from The Netherlands.
Pieter had taken the day off on May 6, for bringing the Dutch tiles from Nedimex, Venray home. With the help of the fork lift, at the Campbell mushroom farm, using the Toyota truck from AEM.
Both of us have unloaded the 1,600 pounds with our bare hands...
In Europe we are using a lot more tile floors, here it is finally getting more popular the last decennia.
Pieter started with our new patio...
Just for seeing him in action... 27 seconds on silent movie
Dutch: Tegelzetter Pieter maakt terras
English: Tiler Pieter makes terrace
All hand work
Cutting the tiles by hand; using a chisel...
Making progress!
Yep, that is my Red Ford Escort with the Rebel Tag in the front...
Guess I've been a Rebel With a Cause.
Pieter's boss, the Campbell Soup CEO shook his head when Pieter picked him up one day, when he'd landed at our local airport. 'No Pieter, you cannot do that', he said.
But it was MY car, the Buick was at the garage for a tune up...
Not having it done for $ 1.00 per tile; but for sweat!
Sunday lunch on our new patio, with guests/mushroom friends from Switzerland...
Kuhn mushrooms' manager Enzler and Hans Jörg Kuhn with Pieter.
Mauzie our Dachshund is seen bottom right.
On May 27, beginning with the wall...
Yep, Pieter became a carpenter and now working on the roof.
On May 30, with the roof on, it starts looking good! Now the painting...
Voilà, our new patio with privacy and a nice place for lunch, coffee/tea.
On the wall is the antique brass and copper ship's pump, mounted on an oak plank.
Stepping a bit more back, so you can see the Zinnias blooming on the side of the patio.
It sure was a great extension to our previous home.

Do you see that duct in the center of the roof?
One evening, while Pieter was traveling for Campbell Soup to one of their mushroom plants, we had quite a storm.
Turned out that the duct was flapping and making an awful noise.
So I got on a ladder and went up the roof and stamped it shut.
Pieter later on fastened it more secure so it won't flap ever again.

Treasures from archiving our photo albums...

Manuscript Writing and Our Office Manager

Yes, it takes quite an organization for writing the updated version of Pieter's world famous book:
Modern Mushroom Growing...
Original content from Pieter's writings (and one chapter by me).
We finally could proceed after archiving all our slides, photos etc.
Here she is: OFFICE MANAGER Speckie Vedder!
She is tough and she notices the tiniest detail...
Watch her peer over Pieter's corrections and/or notes...
YES—she reads and even upside down!
AND she stays on TOP of things - literally, see the finished papers under her hands?!
Don't you think that I might escape her watchful eye!
She's keeping taps on me and my typing as well...
Mom, can't you type faster with ten fingers?!
She DEMANDS high pay in LOTS of foods + Snacks...
But she EARNS it!

Thanks for your visit and comment!

With Speckie's help we finished this mega task: modern mushroom growing 2020 harvesting

Video Capture - Mega Task DONE with Multi-System and Hi8 VCR

Yay, on November 29, I completed my video conversion from analog to digital for uploading it onto YouTube ore else.
Great feeling and oh so happy!
Archiving is quite a mega task...
Action with the Elgato Video Capture...
Such an easy hardware to use!
Seen on the screen is our beloved Mamita, the mama cat that mysteriously disappeared on November 4, 2007
Other end is connected directly to the U.S. VCR...
~
Husband Pieter got already lots of viewing hours out of his new iPad Pro 12.9" that gives also excellent color display and clarity - pure JOY and Kudos to Apple!
Have to confess that I'd ordered the above from Amazon on January 31, 2017 so it sat on my desk unboxed for quite a while! But such is life, things get in-between and time is passing way too fast for doing it all.
Doing this is SO EASY!
You just go to their website for downloading the software for either Windows click and click through again.
Or, like I had to do, for my Mac and even for the Newest updated Mac! So very easy do do click and click through again.
Did most with our regular US VCR, moved it just into my office, close to my Mac on the 2nd adjacent desk.
Am thrilled for even having been able to capture the Dutch PAL system video from Mom & Dad's 50th wedding anniversary!
Also my youngest brother's wedding etc.
That RARE SHARP VC-VH990WH 6-HEAD HI-FI MULTI-SYSTEM VCR for PAL/MESECAM/NTSC in BOX I've used for doing so, is now available on eBay for others to use it likewise, just click and click through the link here.
Even works for MESECAM = Middle Eastern SECAM system and France has the SECAM system.
Easy task for doing this with the Sharp Multi-System VCR direct to your PC...
WHY is the world still so complicated and divided? Making it oh so hard for immigrants to hold on to their memories?!
SORRY SOLD...
Also for those that still have some 8 or Hi8 tapes from loved ones they want to digitalize, that too can be easily done with the Elgato Video Capture and I've also offered our Sony EV-C200 Video Hi8 VCR in ORIGINAL BOX to DIGITIZE your old VIDEOS! for sale on eBay, just click and click through again.
SORRY SOLD...
With the Elgato Video Capture hardware this is such an easy job...
So happy for having tackled this!
Fond family memories now safe and ready for reliving over and over.
Guess now is the perfect time for tackling such projects when daylight is short and evenings kind of long...

Good luck to anyone wanting to finish such a family archiving task!

Thanks for your visit and comment.

Taking Husband Pieter back to Knoxville, TN in Mom & Dad's Footsteps

On April 4, of this year we both stayed in Knoxville, TN for two nights.
For a very special reason...
After having gone to Clingman's Dome, see previous post below, we visited with a dear blogger friend close to Knoxville and then checked in at the Hyatt Place downtown.
The blogger friend is: Katie Isabella she is very sweet in person!
Also: Ramblingon Katie Isabella's Mom
Yes, we met both of them!
It is always a joy for Meeting with any Blogger Friend that you know for many, many years and it also proves again and again that you have so much in common.
Here husband Pieter finally stands in a spot where he took daily lunch break walks...
Pieter had to do a course about Statistical Process Control at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville for Campbell Soup.
So on Saturday, September 6, 1986 Pieter flew from Atlanta, Georgia to Knoxville, Tennessee after I'd dropped him off at the airport.
Here, Mom & Dad are walking the gardens around the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, on May  6, 1987.
As a matter of fact, just received this photo from my Dad on May 21, 2019, when I drove straight home from the airport after landing in Amsterdam.
Showed him some video on my MacBook and photos from our trip to Knoxville in April.
Dad jumped up and grabbed his photo book from their FIRST trip to the USA.
Never had seen those pictures myself and of course immediately asked Dad to take them with me for scanning them for archiving.
So happy with these memories!
Pieter took this photo from the University of Tennessee, from the Hill Street...
The University of Tennessee, Hill Entrance
Card from the University of Knoxville that Pieter sent to Mom & Dad in The Netherlands
From September 6 till the 12th, husband Pieter stayed at the Knoxville Hilton in 1986
On Friday, September 12 of 1986, I did pick up Pieter at the Atlanta airport by 6:35 PM and he proudly showed me this!
Pieter took this photo upon arrival in Knoxville with to the right the tower from a special Church...
This was a photo taken by husband Pieter, from the Observation Deck at the Sunsphere, showing the Church Street United Methodist Church of Knoxville, TN
Just click here for more info about Knoxville, TN - Church Street United Methodist Church and what a magnificent building that is!
A very poor quality photo but seen are Mom & Dad and I presume that I did park near that Church for strolling around the University as that is to the right...
Here I am standing in front of this beautiful Church Street United Methodist Church!
While Pieter was napping, I found it on the Internet, and now had the address for walking to it from our Hyatt Place in Downtown...
It was rather difficult to recognize from the bad photo I had of Mom & Dad.
Pieter took this photo from the median with pedestrian traffic lights as otherwise the entire building would not be in the picture.
Pedestrians could not cross this 6-lane road in 'one' trip...
Mom & Dad on May 6, 1987 at the World's Fair Park in Knoxville
The tower's window glass panels are layered in 24-karat gold dust...
It measures 266 ft or 81 m!
The 1982 World's Fair, formerly known as Knoxville International Energy Exposition in which The Netherlands also participated and China for the 1st time EVER.
See short video: Remembering the 1982 World's Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee where President Reagan opened it on May 1.
Also called 'Sunsphere'

Husband Pieter took this photo in 1986 when walking around during lunch break...
In the center you see the Hilton hotel
Oh, I do recall Pieter talking about Worlds Largest Rubik's Cube From 1982 Worlds Fair of which they had a HUGE one on display.
Designed by Hungarian Architecture Professor Erno Rubik and became one of the 1982 World's Fair's most well known icons.
This photo I took of Pieter on April 4, 2019...
The first time that Pieter ever came back here since 1986!
Yep, Public Parking Poplar St Lot and Pieter pointing to the World's Fair Park and it is visible to his right.
There are still overhead wires visible but a lot less than in 1987 when I took Mom & Dad's photo.
Horizon pollution...
The Tennessee Amphitheater shown here, which got constructed during the 1982 World's Fair
Dad gave me also this photo where we just arrived in North Carolina.
We visited Highlands and also nearby Dry Falls of which Dad himself had pictures.
We spent the night in Cherokee TN, at a Best Western
Next day we went to Gatlinburg, TN and on to Knoxville.
Quite a solo trip for me, as we had dropped off Pieter at the airport on Sunday, May 3, after we had spent the weekend in Atlanta at the Marriott Galleria.
1226 km for me solo or 14 hours driving...
Pieter was still working full time for Campbell Soup as Vice President Training & Development.
A total of 1,226 km and back till the airport in Atlanta to pick up Pieter, all on May 6, and from there, Pieter did drive home!
That was a full day... all the way from Knoxville.
We had all four been together to the Dutch Queen's Birthday Reception at the Dutch Consul's home on West Paces Ferry Road in Atlanta.
Dad sang the Dutch Wilhelmus on this side of the Atlantic!
So with 2 nights at the Marriott and some shopping, dropping Pieter off at the airport I'd gone back to Dublin for 1 night... Next day we left for North Carolina and the above Knoxville, TN visit.
When I'd come home in Dublin, I also altered a newly bought dress for Mom (while in Atlanta!) so she could wear it!

So happy for having received Dad's photos and being able to look back and for having shown Pieter once more...
