{R.I.P. SACHA GIRL}

June 17 was a fatal day for our Sacha girl... She got hit by a car before breakfast time as she did not show up when Pieter put all the bowls out in the garage. That was strange. At noon, just as we sat together with a cup of green tea and the mail, the doorbell rang and I opened. There stood the neighbor from across the street with a cat in a bag; literally. His young son was with him. They had picked up 'their' dead cat from the road, they thought. As they were about to bury her; their cat showed up. Oh my gosh it must be the neighbor's cat they said and they had to notify us. That was quite a sad and shocking news. She was still warm but dead. Her chin had gotten a blow and her hind legs were scraped at the knees... I cried, this is such a sad thing and she will be dearly missed by all of us. Her siblings and her human parents.
Rest In Peace dear SACHA GIRL...
Born on March 30, 2007 at 10:45 AM
Died on June 17, 2013
Here I am holding Sacha in my hands, she is only 4 days old. She is born in our home and was the middle baby of 5...
Here she is romping with her two brothers as they are almost six weeks old.
One week later at the age of 7 weeks; all 5 are napping on my covered chair in the Rose Suite where we all had moved temporarily.
Almost 8 weeks now and playing all 5 together. Learning and discovering life...
Now they are 8 weeks. ALL together napping on this foot stool.
Their Mamita Spicy, whom we rescued and brought home from Acapulco, Mexico is looking on.
Sacha with her white socks and gloves was the easiest to recognize all the time.
Sacha is almost 3 months here and sleeping in a box...
All three sisters napping on top of our down duvet... 5 months old here.
Three days later, all 5 siblings napping on the cotton mat in front of the French door to the balcony...
Sacha was like her Mamita Spicy, a tuxedo cat.
Ten months old here and Sacha was like her Mamita Spicy, a master at standing on her hind legs.
Bandido is very vocal, showing his teeth while talking. Sacha was the most vocal; we will miss her talking...
She could just hold on to the down-folded table flap to stand tall for 'begging'.
Whenever we had a cup of coffee or a tea she wanted a cat treat!
Please Papi or Mami; give me 3 of those crunchy treats...!
We always had our coffee or tea as the mail man came. Here something in a parcel was wrapped in tissue paper. Sacha claimed that right away! Now she looked 'gift-wrapped'...
Bandido or 'Dido' as we call him, was her favorite brother and look how they napped together!
4th of July, 2011 and Sacha is watching the US Flag... The Georgia flag is on the other side, not seen here.
December 9, 2011 Sacha got picked up by daughter Liz before we left to the Atlanta airport where we  dropped Liz off...
That was the last time she ever would hold her.

A picture from last year on the driveway where they all love to lie and roll...
April last year and Sacha always was vocal. Here she says goodbye to all of us...
Cuddling her, was not that easy as she was very shy but once she was in my arms; she melted and loved it.
She always caressed my face with her velvety paw; I love you Mami...
How I miss my sweet girl!

I like to use a quote here from my best friend: 'Only those who share love in life, share sadness in death...'

    1. Dearest Theresa,
Indeed hopefully she did. Her body was still warm around noon... That made me grieve even more by not knowing for sure if she died instantly. Sure the temperature here also helps with that. It is one of the hardest things in life.

It must be such a difficult time....please allow yourself as much time as you need for your grief. These pictures are so sweet. She was so lucky to have wonderful home with loving family. She must have enjoyed beautiful nature. Sending you warm thoughts and prayers to you, Mariette. Hugs to you.

    1. Dearest Tamago,
Thanks for your comforting words! It means even more from such a devoting human parent to two lovely cat-boys. Yesterday I had had it, could not perform my work that I was planning to accomplish but in my opinion to write this post was the best healing therapy. Going over her entire life and seeing it so clearly all over again did sooth the pain. Yes, she did enjoy a very happy life in beautiful nature. We had no idea she would go on the street and we never will know exactly what the reason was. Maybe a dog was running around; who knows? We lost several before, my Dutch cat-boy only lived to be half a year; he got poisoned. Our first cat-girl here in Georgia got killed on the same road when she was only 1½ years old. The next cat-boy was 3½ when he died of heart worm. Another cat-girl we had for less than two months and she got killed by a car, also one Swedish blue duck we had as a pet... But this time it did hurt more. Maybe it is that I was there at her birth and also the fact that we had her for over 6 years.
      Hugs to you!

  7. Dear Mariette, I feel so badly for you. Such a beautiful cat, along with her siblings that you show. Although we can't know exactly what happened to Sacha, there is surely a lesson for everyone here to slow down and be as careful as possible.

Today I do feel better than the day before yesterday, it is not as raw anymore. Writing about her was the best therapy! You are so right about a lesson to be learned and slowing down. But I'm afraid that this again is preaching to the wrong choir. The person that hit her left her also like that and did never slow down, let alone stop in order to inform her humans. Yesterday, as my husband did mow the lawn he saw another freak coming down the hill in his car like being chased down. There are also playing children that run their bikes on the driveways at times...
      Hugs to you,
      Mariette

  8. Dearest Mariette. I am so sorry for your loss. What a pretty girl she was. I know why you miss her so much. She had a lot of personality too! I am sending you the poem a friend forwarded to me when my old dog Shadow passed away six years ago. I still think about her several times a week, but imagining her waiting for me across the Rainbow Bridge makes ne feel better. Big hugs to you. Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

That's the case with Sacha's Mamita Spicy; she never showed up or any sign from her. That broke my heart for a long time; not knowing for sure. My guess is that she got kidnapped because she was such an elegant svelte Asian feline with a shiny silky coat.

Nobody who loves their pets is not happy with such a story. Sacha was very much husband Pieter's girl. In winter time when it was too cold outside or in the garage, she would cuddle up with him under the duvet. Her spot was at his feet or between his legs. She loved her human Papi!
I can understand your grief for the loss of your dog. For each being that we LOVE, there will be a farewell sooner or later. Still, the pain is worth all the love and after initial grieving time, we can keep the good memories in our hearts forever.

Thanks for your loving words and yes, they are glorious gifts from God. However sad it is for having lost her, she had a happy life and we only can pray that worldwide people start respecting their animals more!
You are so right about the natural environment. There are certain dangers out there. We got snapping turtles in our creek and they too could harm a kitty. Sacha was so special as I was with her Mamita when she gave birth to her... That makes for a very special and deep bond.
Hugs to you and Mr. Bob!

    1. Dearest Stacy,
Thanks for your thoughts. So glad this week passed. Yesterday I was extremely busy for tidying the house and cooking dinner for dear friends. That was a very pleasant evening and time passes fast. Today I made photos with our huge Gardenia. Perfect on time before a downpour.
Happy Sunday to you with hugs,
      Mariette

  41. My dearest Mariette and Pieter ... I sit with tears streaming down my cheeks as I leave this comment. Words cannot begin to describe the tightness I felt in my gut as I read about the neighbor almost burying precious Sacha by mistake. How even more heart breaking it would have been for you both to wonder where Sacha went. Poor sweet Sacha, ... your trubute in her memory was beautiful. And I know that she will stay with you always not only in memory, thought and in your hearts ~ but she is an angel that you know by name. Lots of love and prayers for you both as you go through this most tragic time. Hugs and blessings, C. (HHL)

    1. Dearest Celia,
Thank you so much for your heartfelt comment as it means so much to both of us. It has been a very sad week but it is overwhelming how many dear virtual friends do share their love for fur babies with us. Indeed, cats or dogs are angels sent to us, wrapped in fur and we had to let her go abruptly.
Hugs to you and we even more have to love our fur babies each day while we still can.

    1. Lieve Marian,
      Liefs,
      Mariette
