0n January 8 of 2010, my Pieter drove all the way from Atlanta where we stayed at the Hyatt Place, to Waynesville in North Carolina... It was icy when we arrived and with snow on the ground.
Had to be very careful on my crutches...
January 26 of 2010 our new tuxedo kitty girl Speckie
Yes, this was our mountain tuxie!
She rode home inside a carton box, on my knees, while Pieter did all the driving as I was on crutches and in pain, without any muscle power...
It took us nearly 5 hours to reach home and we both were too tired for introducing Speckie to the rest of the kitties.
So I stayed with her in the Rose Suite downstairs.
Next day, on January 9 of 2010, I ended up in the hospital due to being almost totally paralyzed.

Speckie died because of kidney problems... She rallied several times after getting some steroid shots to perk her up. Her breathing got worse and worse.
So today, after I went to Mass and picked up Pieter from Rotary lunch, we both went back with Speckie inside the basket pet carrier.
We both agreed that she did not have to suffer more... she had not eaten for over a week.
Around 2:00 PM she became an Angel and I was petting her and talking to her and her Papi sat on a chair near her...
Never easy but this was the best after having had her for 14 years and some days.
We LOVED her and her siblings by adoption LOVED her, she was an easy kitty.

Dearest Eastside Cats,

But she is freed from pain.

I am so sorry for the loss of your beautiful girl.
ReplyDeleteDearest House Panthers,
DeleteThank you and yes, it is hard for not having her around any more...
Hugs,
Mariette + Kitties
Mariette, Pieter, I am deeply sorry. Terribly so. I know how you both love Speckie. All of your little ones. Speckie, fly freely and play with all your siblings and all the other kitties you know. Remember your Mami and Papi's great love and care for you. I send you love, precious beautiful girl. I will miss you. Your Mami and Papi will miss you terribly as they do all the babies.
ReplyDeleteXO
Dearest Katie Isabella,
DeleteYes, a very heavy and sad day... but it was the best to let her go and stop her fighting. She barely could breath and when she received her sedation + shot, she was forced on her side. She could not breath and kind of wrestled and Amanda thought she had a stroke... It breaks your heart and I hope she heard my voice and felt my strokes!
Hugs,
Pieter, Mariette, Spooky boy, Spunky girl and Tiggy–Tiger girl
It’s so hard when we have to say goodbye to our fur babies. My heart hurts for you. 💔
ReplyDeleteDearest Debby,
DeleteIndeed it is hard and especially so short after Dido boy, not even two months since November 28.
Hugs,
Mariette
There's nothing harder than saying good-bye to someone like Speckie. What a wonderful cat - and what whiskers! Godspeed, Speckie.
ReplyDeleteDearest John,
DeleteYou are so right about it being oh so hard...
Speckie was a beauty with exceptional whiskers.
Hugs,
Mariette
Mariette, I am so sorry for your sad news, and so soon after Dido. It is a hard decision to make, but when we love our pets unconditionally, we know it is the only and kindest decision. I send my condolences to you and Pieter.
ReplyDeleteDearest Jackie,
DeleteYes, as you know yourself, it is very sad for having to let your loyal companions go...
Hugs,
Pieter & Mariette
Hello Mariette and Pieter, I am so sorry that you had to give up your loved pet. She certainly was an unusual and striking-looking cat. You both have given the love and support for your pets to provide an ideal home for their time with you.
ReplyDelete--Jim
Dearest Jim,
DeleteYes, Speckie was a striking–looking beauty and she was so happy here.
We did what we could for them and they showed appreciation and loyalty.
Hugs,

ReplyDeleteBeste Willy,

ReplyDeleteDearest Kim,
DeleteYes, she was indeed a beautiful girl with lots of expression in her face! Will miss that inquisitive look...
Thanks for your support!
Pieter & Mariette
Dear Mariette, I am so saddened to see you have lost another lovely fur baby. So soon after another. This will make a big hole in your life even bigger. She looked to be a sweet and loved tuxedo kitty. You will have wonderful memories but it is never the same as holding them in your arms. Lynn
ReplyDeleteDearest Lynn,
DeleteYes, very sad times for our family... it is shrinking way too fast!
The memories will last forever but I miss seeing her walk into the bathroom for cuddles and scritchies during the night—even when she was so sick herself.
She often slept beside me on the down duvet, making me do acrobatics for getting out from underneath for not wanting to push her away...
We love our fur babies for as long as we're granted time to have them! And they love us...
Hugs,
Mariette
Speckie, we did not have the honor of knowing you, yet still
ReplyDeletewanted to say how sorry we are. We understand how difficult
the decision was your mom and dad had to make. We know
you are in heaven, ready to start your tenth life, and you are, and

Dearest da tabbies o trout towne,
DeleteYes, yesterday was one of our toughest days but it was the best for Speckie girl.
The memories stay with us forever.
Hugs,

Sad to know she is gone - but I'm sure is in a lovely place. We had a kitty named Kit Kat years ago, he resembled Speckie, black and white with great whiskers. So glad you have so many wonderful photos of her over the years.
ReplyDeleteMary x
Dearest Mary,
DeleteYes it was very sad for letting our youngest go... but she deserved to be free from pain.

DeleteThank you for your visit here and yes, Speckie was a beauty and such a sweet, loyal girl.

ReplyDeleteYou are undertaking the long journey through grief. While others may share that grief we all walk it alone. There are no right or wrong paths, no proper way to carry oneself, no set amount of time to complete it. Some steps will come easier than others. There will be rogue waves of grief that you won’t see coming, and knock you back days. But you will come through it. If you get lost let us know. We have been through it before and we might be able to help you find the way out.
Dearest Ruby Rose and the Big Little Angels 3,
DeleteThank you for your wise words by experience.
Yes, we do have years if experience and we know it can be rather rough.
But unconditional love received from our fur babies is worth the rogue waves of grief!
Hugs,
Mariette
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss of sweet Speckie. Run young and pain-free once again at the Bridge.
ReplyDeleteDearest Angels Amber and Max DaWeenie and Mom,

Dearest Mariette, I'm deeply saddened to hear about the loss of another beloved fur baby. She was a beauty! Those whiskers!
ReplyDeleteSending you lots of hugs, my dearest friend.
Dearest Veronica,
DeleteYes, it has saddened us both but knowing that they no longer suffer is a solace. She was exceptionally beautiful indeed. Daring to love is also coming with a downside of grief but we will live through that!
Hugs,
Pieter & Mariette
We are so furry sorry for your loss. We did not have the honour of knowing Speckie, who was clearly a truly sweet furbaby, as well as beautiful. May she run free now in the endless sunshine beyond the Rainbow Bridge, safe in the Loving Paw of the Great Cat in the Sky - until the day when you and she are reunited.
ReplyDeleteDearest J–Cats,
DeleteThank you for your words and yes we look forward to being reunited with our beloved fur babies! They were part of our lives and we truly loved them and miss them.
Hugs,
Pieter & Mariette
Mariette
My heart goes out to you. It's tough letting go. ~hugs~ Thank you for sharing these adorable photos.
ReplyDeleteDearest Darla,

ReplyDeleteDearest Marilyn,

When a soul leaves its mortal body, it is lifted by the wind unseen by adult human eyes, which have been cleared of the ability to experience magic. The soul floats to the nearest river, then rides the current until it enters the River of Life, which gently carries the soul to Rainbow Bridge. The new angel emerges from the water, having discarded all the pain and sorrow of mortal life (often transferred to those mortals nearest to them,). The soul then crosses the River of Life via the Rainbow Bridge and is reunited with their predecessors who loved them while they were mortal; then, a glorious reunion takes place. Their predecessors teach the new angel how to dream visit, to inhibit the bodies of furry and winged creatures so the angel can watch over their loved ones. So, if you see a bird or little animal watching you, or wake up from a dream feeling light of heart, know your angel has been with you. Death is not the end, it's a temporary separation, and if you never stop loving the angel, you will be together again in a place called Rainbow Bridge
ReplyDeleteDearest Ruby Rose and the Big Little Angels 3,
DeleteDeath for sure is not the end as our souls live on and I'm convinced that our furry family members also have a soul.
Hugs,
Mariette
I'm so sorry you lost your sweet baby girl!
ReplyDeleteDearest Andrea,
DeleteThank you for your words!
Hugs,
Mariette + Kitties

Oh! I am sorry. You will miss her so, I know. You gave her the most beautiful life. I had a cat that resembled Speckle. We called her Mittens.
ReplyDeleteDearest Billie Jo,
DeleteThank you and sure, we miss her every day!
Mittens sounds like a perfect name for your kitten.
Hugs,
Mariette
Abrazos,
Mariette
So sorry about the loss of sweet Speckie. Kidney disease is such a devastating sickness in cats. Our Fluffy also died with kidney disease and he lost so much weight :( We are lucky to have such great memories with them. Big hug Mariette
ReplyDeleteDearest Sami,
DeleteThank you and yes, for kitties and for humans it is devastating...
The memories are what remains and slowly the raw pain ebbs away.
Hugs,

Hola, Mariette.
Abrazos,
Mariette
I am sure I left a comment about Spekie! I am so sorry! I am also sorry to hear about your Kidneys. How frustrating. Having lupus myselft, I hate that my body doesn't want to do the things I want it to do. I felt this more than ever in Costa Rica when my body just couldn't do some of the things I wanted to do.
ReplyDeleteDearest Kelleyn,
DeleteYou have been so busy—no sorry necessary here!
It is not easy dealing with health issues like yours or mine, or even of our beloved pets as they too are not exempted.
Hugs,
Mariette
I have known Speckie and her siblings a long long time, and I had heard so much of her that she became a favorite of mine. I was stricken when she had to fly away to the Bridge. Rest peacefully beautiful girl.
ReplyDeleteDearest Katie Isabella,
DeleteYes, we think that Speckie has smelled you on our clothes after visiting and petting you... It still is so unreal that she is no longer here with us.
Hugs,
Mariette
ReplyDeleteManuel.
Querido Manuel,
DeleteGracias y deseándoles todo lo mejor.
Abrazos,
Mariette
Hello dear Mariette. I haven't been to the blog and today I'm reading all the posts and I saw that you lost another pet friend. I'm sorry for you, these little angels should be eternal.
ReplyDeleteTight hug.
Dearest Cristina,
DeleteThank you and yes it was a tough time for both of us—Speckie is being missed...
Hugs,
Mariette
