{Lampes Berger 1898 - 1998 A Century of History}

Being a collector of some of the rare and vintage French Lampes Berger I had to get the book about: A Century of History 1898 - 1998 by Geráld Vilcocq. A link for ordering this book you find at the very bottom.

One of my favorite Vintage Lampe Berger with a very pretty open worked all brass cap. Of course I fell for those blue roses! They go well with my silver pill boxes with roses. French Country Style with a romantic touch...

{MARIETTE'S BACK TO BASICS LLC's RIBBON CUTTING}

FINALLY it got published yesterday in our local news paper! My official ribbon cutting that had been postponed so many times. In 2008 when I started my business we first went to The Netherlands for a wedding. Returning home from the wedding, we joined with Anita, our foster daughter, at the airport and flew back with her to the USA. She stayed with us and went back on a trip to The Netherlands again for the 50th wedding anniversary of Pieter's eldest, and now only brother. We also celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. In February of 2009 we flew once again back to The Netherlands for my parents' 60th wedding anniversary; our 61st trip to visit family and friends. In October of 2009 we flew once more to The Netherlands for the first reunion of the Practical Training College about Mushroom Growing, that husband Pieter had founded. It was fun to see former colleagues once again... When we got back home I became sicker and sicker with excruciating pain. My severe health problems and weight loss, resulted in being completely paralyzed on January 9 of 2010. That set me back so much that we had to work hard in order to catch up on everything. Again we discussed a ribbon cutting with our Dublin Laurens County Chamber of Commerce. Now it was Pieter who made us have to postpone everything again; he had his quadruple bypass on September 3rd. So the year was ending fast again but we decided to have it done on November 30 of 2010.

Here it is; the huge scissor for the ceremony done by the City Mayor and County and Chamber Officials.

Green is the color for Dublin and the Mayor also is wearing a green shamrock, the symbol for Dublin. See my blog post from December 30 for the symbol click it.

The news paper article from our local Courier Herald, February 17 of 2011.

Pieter giving a little speech... one of hundreds that he gave over his life time.

Some snappy remarks and laughter!

A happy gathering!

{Fleur de Lys in our Veranda}

Today I just want to show you a small corner in our veranda.
Fleur de Lys and Angels:
A vintage Lampe Berger with Fleur de Lys | more found at: Spectrenoir; votive candle holder in brass with Fleur de Lys; wall hanging with Fleur de Lys and Angels.

Also our solid French oak furniture in the veranda has Fleur de Lys woven into its viscose fabric. Our interior is in the French Country Style.

Sounds rather French all together...
But there actually is a French Connection!

{INTRODUCING 5 EARLY BLOOMING SPECIAL ROSES TO YOU}

For sure most of my readers know by now that I do LOVE roses. Especially the highly fragrant and rare antique varieties. Okay, let's show you some more beauties that are living on our estate right now. Of course we did bring some of them inside to add a touch of romance to our home. Let me first introduce a fine climber that is on an old trellis in our wood garden.
This one is called 'Dublin Bay' and we got ours from White Flower Farm.
There are more roses developing in our garden and one of them is climbing on the fence next to the road. That is called Rosa eglanteria by its official name and also is called Sweet brier and Shakespeare's rose!
On the same fence is another antique rose budding out and still showing the old rose-hips from last year. This is Félicité Parmentier one of the Alba roses from 1834.
 In the garden itself is a strong grower, Gertrude Jekyll a David Austin English rose from 1986.
Gertrude shows lush leaves that are very healthy and glossy. She must be happy out there!
♥
Now let's go inside to see what we did with one of the highly fragrant roses; Jardin de Bagatelle.
Let me show you what I did look for in order to place this one single rose. It is rare that you do harvest an entire nosegay of roses, especially not in the early season. But a Baccarat perfume bottle serves well for such an orphan. Baccarat is the French crystal, that has been made for ages and is very high quality.
This is a nice French grouping with an antique Lampe Berger in rose motive from France... They look pretty together.
Highly fragrant Jardin de Bagatelle rose.
Here they are on the solid French oak furniture, with a Wedgwood Wedgwood Cream Color on Cream Color round footed 3 7/8 inch compôte. (Replacements Ltd does have 4 available right now... so try your luck!).
The fragrant wax candle I got from Neiman Marcus.
For those of you interested in antique roses you can try here at Heirloom Roses
If you like the antique Lampe Berger from France, I do have some for sale at: Spectrenoir.
