About Me

My photo
Here I would love to share with you our travels and adventures as international mushroom consultants. MEMOIRS about husband Pieter Vedder, who was a SCIENTIFIC PIONEER in Commercial Mushroom Cultivation Education. His practical handbook is in 9 languages and is called the MUSHROOM BIBLE: https://mariettesbacktobasics.blogspot.com/2020/08/modern-mushroom-growing-2020-harvesting.html

{BOOKS in Our Living Room}

Of course as a teacher and writer, husband Pieter did live with lots of books. The first book about Modern Mushroom Growing by Pieter J.C. Vedder got published in 1961, in the Dutch language. That yielded six editions, while Pieter was the Founder and Principal of the first and only Practical Training College for mushroom growing; the only one in the world. It eventually got officially translated into six other languages. Pieter even got hold of an unofficial Chinese version, while visiting China; you can read more in my blog post about: {Silk Embroidered Birds from China Trip}.
Both of us have, besides writing numerous articles for magazines, also been avid readers all our lives; that's the best education available. At least, it is something that is deeply embedded into our Lifestyle!
So now we're back to the shelf where we left yesterday:

Same shelf, but to the right, where Pieter is in the spotlight. Maartje my niece is to the left. The frog is not related to us, he came home with us from South Africa! The two oval frames are 925/000 silver from Spain by Isabel Cabanilla. The others are eBay finds, to fit some old photos; both in Sterling.

This is a rosewood pocket watch stand, holding my antique gold lapel watch and an antique French needle case in gold.

Here you can see the engraved M on the lapel pin.

A second lapel pin and the needle case again.

In México City when we went with our boss out for dinner with his good friends, we first went to the friends' home. There we both saw the very first ROSE TREE in our lives! Sure enough, we had no camera to capture that rare beauty. So what you see here, is actually from such a huge rose, which has grown into a tree! Very beautiful grain.

Okay, let's step back and look at our books in this open section. The top part holds crystal ware and below is also storage. Pieter once did smoke a pipe and so did his Dad, thus we have quite a collection on a teak pipe rack.
Behind those frames and pipes are leather books.

To the right is an entire section for books; all the way to the top.

Stepping back to the left, you now can see that the center section is holding crystal, silver ware, Delft blue and the last two open sections again hold books.

Our solid French oak wall unit could not hold all books for the living room.
Here is an oak Barrister book case from Levenger for more books.
We have added a total of seven in our home!

On top of this Barrister book case you see our collection of antique inkwells and letter holder. Also a natural cherry pen case from Levenger. In it are our fountain pens and ballpoints, mostly Mont Blanc.

Of course, there are still those books you need to have right next to your reading chair...
We actually have books in all seven languages. Keeps the mind young!

{Like to see my own Everlasting Silver ROSE?}

Okay, here we are in our living room. That's where my very own Giovanni Raspini Everlasting Silver Rose resides. In front of the books; together with silver frames and other exotic things (more about that tomorrow).
Oh, and there is also a silver 'baby' rose!
That silver 'baby' is actually a 925/000 silver brooch from Germany, but I love to display it with the longer 'mama' rose from Italy, which is 7" long.
And talking about Mama; to the left is my Mom in a silver frame, together with me.
Those pictures were taken here in Macon, Georgia one time, when we had Mom & Dad over with us, from The Netherlands.
Mom said that it was the most precious gift she ever received... That meant a lot to me and Dad found her look stunning when we both got home. Guess he did fall all over in love with her. They're a couple for almost 62 years!
Yes, 2,318 views for this post...
Yes, the sterling silver frame with Mom's picture does also have roses on it!
The large rose from my Giovanni Raspini  Silver Gifts collection at Mariette's Back to Basics is my all time favorite! Sold out...
It is so real looking and even its thorns are perfectly created by Master Giovanni Raspini.
You can see a different picture of this silver rose on my blog post about: {Point A La Ligne The Rolls Royce of Candles}

This is a photo taken by day, with one more silver frame that we bought in Asolo, Italy. That one shows me in our gazebo while having coffee one Sunday.

This one is taken with the flash light in the evening...
Tomorrow you will see more about books in our living room!

{25th Anniversary or Valentine's -- EVERLASTING SILVER ROSE for you!}

My dear German friend, Johanna Gehrlein, the author of the book about Rosen-Bestecke, (Rose Flatware) advised me to put my Giovanni Raspini <(click it) silver rose on, as a special and everlasting gift for a 25th Wedding Anniversary. Sounds good, especially for the upcoming Valentine's celebration as well. I myself was the lucky recipient of such an everlasting silver rose by my true love Pieter! He always reasons that this is far better than a nosegay of roses as these will last forever and thus are a very good investment! Look at my Zen Cart powered on line boutique Mariette's Back to Basics for this precious everlasting gift of pure romance!
Sold out...

Top right you can clearly see the mark of Silver Master Giovanni Raspin from AZ, which stands for Arezzo, in the heart of Tuscany in Italy.
They don't have this rose in their collection anymore but I still have a few left for some lucky recipient...
