{60 Years Ago}

On February 6, 1951 my parents finally had a baby. I was born at 1:00 AM, weighing 6 metric pounds (3,000 g) and did receive the name of my still born sister (January 11, 1950). Lots of joy and so began my happy life.

Daddy's written words on the back of this photo: What is the world big...

Little did he know, that his baby–girl would one day travel to all continents of the world and speak seven languages.

 

One-and–a-half year old and Mom was 7 months pregnant with my sister Diny.

Six years old.

Ten years old...

 July 29, 1965 at Hoek of Holland. We went by bus with our neighborhood to North and South Holland. Wearing a dress that I'd made; just by following a pattern — self taught. Started real young with sewing...

September 18, 1966 in a white self made dress.

June 24, 1967 in a self made blouse.

October 10, 1967 in a self made dress with black lace bolero.

June 11, 1970 in a self made dress.

October 15, 1972 along the canal in Helenaveen, The Netherlands. My favorite pink wool cropped sweater with embroidered flowers on the sleeves, that I bought in Bonn, Germany. Often I went shopping in Mönchengladbach or in Bonn. And yes, I did wear mini skirts back than. It is not that the skirt is that short but my legs are very long...

{30 Years Ago In My Rose Sweater}

When this photo was taken 30 years ago by Pieter, I still was a very shy girl... That was 30 years ago—the beginning of a blissful relationship! 

The world has taught me some lessons over the years, so I got cured of that. But what I wanted to show you here is my hand knitted Rose Sweater.The sweater is no more and I regret that I have no color photo of its beautiful roses. I've hand embroidered them over the knitting... Time was a different issue back than I guess!

The knitting pattern was in an older Dutch Ariadne magazine, from February 15, 1964... My Mom subscribed to it already in the 1950s and she did knit many a sweater from Ariadne patterns, she was a master in it. Also my paternal grandmother loved to knit and she had more time on her hands as my Mom with my six younger siblings to take care of, plus helping Dad in the greenhouses with the vegetables. From my Mom—I've inherited this ability and it was also taught by the nuns to us when we entered first grade. I don't regret it; it is a wonderful thing to do. Since we live in Georgia, the need for woolen sweaters is very limited so I have not produced many here.

As a teen, I fell in love with it right away but I had trouble growing up to a size 10 or European size 40. When I knew I would never make it 'big' I had to redesign this sweater and knit it in thinner wool, to make it like a size 6 or 36 for me.
