Giant Bovist as a HUGE BUTT

True story and we actually ATE it.
September 27 of 1995, back in Limburg, The Netherlands, Mom did spoil my Pieter by having rice pudding and at clickable 0:42 (view it on YouTube!) Mom proudly shows one of Dad's cauliflowers and...
A huge BUTT!
That happens when you have a son–in–law who is involved in mushroom growing, they even show up on your own land.

On August 3, blogger friend Darla showed an Agaricus bisporus in the form of a butt...
Seriously Silly & Silly Seriousness ←click link
But this one is even more pronounced!

{Papa is 90 today!} | photo of Dad's cauliflower as he was called the Cauliflower King for his superior quality product...

  1. That is a huge cauliflower! That was a delightful video, Mariette. Your mom and dad's accents were interesting to hear. I could do without those roosters though. One of the reasons we had to move from our last home - they were right next door, and LOUD! I love rice pudding. Looks like Pieter is enjoying it.

    1. Dearest Sheri,
That cauliflower was not huge but top quality, nice firm and not loose.
But did you see that HUGE mushroom?
Roosters are a lovely sound to hear and to wake up to. That would be a sorry reason for moving...
Mom's rice pudding was with whipped cream and sure Pieter enjoyed that—all of my family did.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

    2. The Rooster's crow out in the country doesn't bother me, but these were right next door and they didn't crow just in the mornings but various times during the day. It was annoying. And hard on the ears. Roosters are often not allowed in suburban neighborhoods because of their crowing. It's disrespectful to have Roosters that close to your neighbor, in my opinion. I opened my kitchen door, and they were right there.

      Delete
    3. Sheri, you were living in the city? Your comments are rather vague in that regard.
In Indonesia we had roosters on the compound, they were in a large cage. In Asian countries it is quite normal to live with them.
During the day when everyone is at work, it would not bother many... But I guess it is just a personal attitude.
Were they free roaming since they were right at your kitchen door?
      Hugs,
      Mariette

    4. When I opened my kitchen door, they were right there behind the neighbor's fence roaming freely. They were LOUD even with the door closed. In many areas, there are ordinances where Roosters are not allowed in neighborhoods because of the noise.

      Delete
    5. Sheri, you lived NOT in the city limits due to the neighbors having their property fenced in and roosters roaming freely. WHY such aggression?! Also indicates that you lived in a very poorly insulated home as double glass and insulated walls keep outside noises away aside from saving energy. Don't you think you exaggerate—and what about people living near a railroad or highway—that is a lot more noisy.
You certainly make a lot of unnecessary noise here...
      Hugs,
      Mariette

    6. My son had a serious and painful ear condition at the time, and I was concerned about how the noise would affect him. It's a gentle reminder not to judge people when you don't know the facts. Peace be with you, Mariette.

It is indeed a fun and humorous story and we actually ATE that butt mushroom—except Dad, he did not trust it. Even the chicken loved it...

  3. I'm not sure I would have trusted the butt mushroom either. Oh my gosh, that was funny! And I thought the cauliflower was quite large, looked fabulous.

Your videos are treasures, Mariette. We don't have any of our own family, though there are hundreds of 35mm slides in one of Dad's closets!

      Dad grew cauliflowers to perfection.
Your Dad's slides are a treasure and so easy to digitalize. That is the very first what I archived, all our slides and then photos, scrap books and videos. Quite a mega task but so worth it.

Yeah, rice pudding with whipped cream sure looks perfect. A family favorite and also on Pieter's side. Mom saved it for Pieter...

Yes, it sure was an exceptional big one but Dad's land was fertile and he was a professional market gardener. Those were the crops off the fields, aside from the big greenhouses for Boston lettuce, tomatoes, gherkins and English cucumbers.
You are so right about hearing and seeing the chickens and rooster—a happy sight and noise!

  11. Dear Mariette,
The butt mushroom looks absolutely marvelous and is the biggest mushroom I've ever seen. I love it when I see small white mushrooms looking. like a butt, and sometimes like a heart depending on how big the sides get :-). And cauliflower is one of my favorite vegetables. That one is a beauty as well. You don't see many that size in the grocery stores or even on farms in the US lately. What is your favorite meal to make with mushrooms and one as big as that butt was? :-)

Usually we did not eat mushrooms that much, since we talked about them, wrote about them and that would do. But sautéed with some butter they are delicious with or without meat.

  14. That mushroom really mushroomed! It must have loved all of the special nutrients and care it was given. It can still buttress the reputation of Agaricus bisporus by displaying it's glorious shape, as well. Happy 90th Birthday to the Cauliflower King. He certainly has rapport with Mother Earth!
