Meaning of my name — Pearl and Desired Child

Names ought to have a special meaning and for a reason.
But do most of us KNOW what its meaning is?
Pearl — bought in Oahu, Hawaii
A nice crystal conch with pearl and meaningful to me!
My name as written through 4th grade of elementary school: Marietje
Marietje is listed here as meaning: pearl; bitterness/sea; desired child
Mariet means: shapely clean
Mariette has the very same meaning as Marietje...
In Dutch Mariet, Marietje ←click on link
Hard to capture...
Also from Oahu, Hawaii came my Majorica black pearls in 15" length and earrings and ring, found at Neiman Marcus.
A 16" necklace would be too big for me.
Also from Oahu, Hawaii came home this little pineapple, the symbol of hospitality.
Having cooked numerous dinners for company, friends and family and several High Teas as a donation to the Rotary Club's fund raiser.
Did turn the velvet silk fabric around and used its backside...

Do you know your name's meaning?

Oahu Hawaii Majestic Circle Island Tour

With E Noa Tours, Pieter had booked us a Majestic Circle Island Tour 120 miles round.
That was on December 3, 1998.
With 18 people in a mini bus.
Oahu with the capital Honolulu
Earlier we already did tour the USS ARIZONA, see post below.
Waimea Valley
North Shore & surfing beaches
Waikiki Trolley Tours

This is the one we did:
Inside Diamond Head Crater
Hanauma Bay
Blowhole and Sandy Beach
Makapuu Lookout
Windward Oahu Coastline
Pali Lookout
Byodo–In Temple
Sunset Beach/North Shore Surfing Beaches
Waimea Valley
Pineapple Fields
~
The Diamond Head Crater, our first stop was not impressive, but that is because we both know far bigger craters from Indonesia!
Hanauma Bay
Hanauma Bay, often called the BEST beach in the USA
Hanauma Bay view, a coral reef
Pali Lookout at 2,000 feet or 609 meter.
Wind gusts at 90 miles per hour or hurricane power as it doubles on this height!
Holding onto my video camera and The Bridge saddlebag...
Nu'uanu Pali Lookout
Nu'uanu Pali Lookout with botanical garden below
Byodu–In Temple
North Shore Lookout at Laie Point
Lava once streamed through the hole behind me, to the right of my face.
A volcanic eruption and this is left over from that.
Sharp lava formations churn the waves and emphasize the power of the Pacific Ocean.
Laie Point is also where we both saw the Cliff Jumps!
We do have a video tape, but as often mentioned, all in Dutch for Mom & Dad...
From there we got onto a special bus for driving through Waimea Valley, a tropical paradise.
We also went to the Macademia nut outlet and bought us half a pound.
Our final stop was the Dole pineapple plantation.
We also watched on December 6 from our balcony STREET BIKERS UNITED HAWAII
On December 4, we both walked in 45 minutes to the Ala Moana shopping center to Neiman Marcus where we dined at the Mariposa restaurant on the 3rd level, with fabulous view, see above photo.
View to the right.
We went back to our hotel by bus.
We were home again on December 8.
Fond memories of Oahu Hawaii

We only had been there once before, upon returning home from our consulting work in Australia, see link to post below...

Our Vacation at Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa

On July 23 in 1998 I managed to book a flight to Hawaii on our Delta Airlines miles.
That was 60,000 miles for both of us!
Those were the days...
Flying to Hawaii is even 400 miles farther than flying to Amsterdam and it is 5 hours time difference with the East Coast.
So after a long stretch of 8.5 hours we landed.
With a shuttle we went to our Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa ←click link.
Here you see the Hyatt Regency Twin Towers...
A beautiful complex with 40 levels and over 1,200 rooms.
We both stayed in room 3461, so not quite at the top!
The Hyatt Regency Waikiki's twin towers put visitors close to the action in Waikiki.
Luxurious suites, breathtaking views, the sand, sun, and sea... all a part of Hyatt's Hawaii.
Delta Air Lines got us here FREE for 60,000 miles for both of us!
Happy, for having organized it this way...
View from our balcony...
We were in heaven!
Happy me on the balcony and wearing my Majorica pearls and I managed to purchase the 15" black pearl necklace with ring and earrings at Neiman Marcus.
These are 14 mm and also 15" as 16" is too wide for me...
Ocean view...
This is a post card with the view of Waikiki from the Sheraton Hotel Waikiki...
A DREAM!

Stay tuned for more...

Pearl Harbor Hawaii

On November 27, 1998 we both flew on Delta Airlines to Oahu, Hawaii.
Will show more later about that part...
On December 2, we were ready to go on the bus for E NOA Pearl Harbor Tours by 8:45 AM.
A very interesting tour with a movie of December 7, 1941.
We went with a Navy boat to the USS Arizona Memorial which is placed on top of the sunken wreckage.
Over 1,100 names on the wall; all from this ship.
The captain's name was Franklin Van Valkenburgh (a Dutch name!)...
Also a Father and his Son...
Many Brothers...
A chilling experience to stand there!
The USS Arizona Memorial is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.
Every American ought to visit here...
It is mind boggling to read the history...
The Visitor Center is open every day from 7:30 A.M. to 5 P.M.
Only on Memorial Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's day it is closed.
Day of Infamy... 7 December 1941
USS Arizona as she appeared before destruction, December 7, 1941.
May PEACE prevail as this is so devastating...

Has any of you ever visited the USS Arizona Memorial in Oahu, Hawaii?

Working & Socializing with Staff from Melbourne Mushrooms

Of course I will not bore you with any details or pictures from our Mushroom Consulting job...
We're now into our 2nd week of working for Melbourne Mushrooms. It was such a miserable wet and cold day on Thursday, the 1st week!
A very kind gentleman at the Mushroom plant, named 'George', gave me a thick and warm coat.
I could have hugged him for giving me such WARMTH!
Melbourne Mushrooms P/L.
As you can see, it is fuzzy warm lined out totally with this imitation fur...
So I was in heaven!
Where the farm is located, in Mernda, you just can see under the + sign to the left.
On Tuesday, October 6, 1992 we were all going to have dinner with the Staff, at a restaurant in St. Andrews, top right in this map. It was in the hills.
It is often good for being able to socialize in a more relaxed atmosphere instead of constantly doing training on the job...
That's me in the center, wearing my black leather coat.
Pieter, in the center, is listening animated here.
Me in the center left, looking like I'm in thoughts...
Here again, me looking at the camera...
Dinner is being served at the long table...
A note from Campbell's MUSHROOMS that we later received in November from staff members Craig Bass and Richard Bell
Wishing us to balance our work commitments with our guest for a little free time...
Pieter's eldest brother did stay with us in November of 1992.

On October 15 we both did fly back home, via Honolulu, Hawaii this time.

Thanks for your visit and comment!

Stay tuned for the next part.
