One of the highlights of our sight seeing trip with OnBoard Tours to New York City was for sure the included Staten Island Ferry (click the pink hyperlinks for more info!). What we didn't know was that this Ferry is FREE for everyone!
Here we are, just leaving from the Whitehall Ferry Terminal with a spectacular view of Lower Manhattan
To the left you can see the docking station of White Hall where we all got on board
Here you can see those three bridges across the Hudson River, as I zoomed in a bit.
Brooklyn Bridge is in the front with the Manhattan Bridge behind.
In the far distance you even get to see George Washington Bridge!
Sorry, this is all from my iPhone 6 Plus

Here we are looking at Staten Island Ferry's White Hall Terminal from where we departed.
We had such a perfect sunny day on August 28!
The view of Lower Manhattan looks spectacular, seen from the Ferry.
This is zoomed in as we passed Ellis Island with the Statue of Liberty...
When we were going back, I took this photo from the Ferry docking at the Terminal on the Staten Island side in St. George, NY.
There is seating inside the huge Ferry and here Pieter is seated on a bench on the upper deck outside.
Some 6,000 passengers can be transported and that 109 times daily!

That is me, standing on the upper deck for a spectacular view!
Going back to Lower Manhattan, New York City...
Riding this FREE Ferry I can only highly recommend!
Have you been across to Staten Island?
One of my fav things to do when I was a kid is go to SI by ferry. My father loved to take my brother and me some Sundays in the Summer specially.

No, we have never done this. I've only been to New York city once and that was for business, and not much time for any sightseeing. Such a lot of history right there, with the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Amazing skyline.
ReplyDeleteHope things are going well for you Mariette. I have been busy planning the wedding, with three bridal showers this month and out-of-town visitors, and helping paint and clean the new house for the bride-to-be. Happy times :). xo Deborah

Great pictures! I didn't know there was a free ferry available. I took ferry to see Statue of Liberty, which wasn't free ride. I loved the view of lower Manhattan. When I saw it from ferry for the very first time, I realized it was the familiar scenery that I'd seen in post card many times! If I ever visit NY again, I will certainly check out that ferry :-)
ReplyDeleteLovely photos!! and you had a very nice weather!!!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in New York, on both occasions, we went to Lower Manhattan and to the dock but there was such a long line of people waiting to embark that we decided not to take the ferry. I don't know if it was free at the time.
I wish you a lovey new week, dear Mariette!
