LOVED singing in Händel's Messiah

MUSIC is FOOD for the SOUL
Even more so when it is being composed by Georg Friedrich Händel...
December is a busy month for ALL, but I did commit myself to sing in one more choir since it is our favorite: Händel's Messiah!
Second row from the top, 2nd from left behind lady in sleeveless dress, I'm singing my heart out as a soprano.
We sang 7 songs and in-between we had a tenor, bas, alto and soprano sing a solo.
The Orchestra played great and we only rehearsed together with the orchestra, the day before!
Twice we'd rehearsed + performed on the actual day though!
Our local TV35, did capture the entire performance: Handel Messiah at Theatre Dublin click this link.
In the above screenshot from full video, finally the drummer and trumpet players are being shown as well!
I'm just sitting down here...
Husband Pieter did enjoy both performances and felt very proud of me singing with the choir.
That was our Händel's Messiah, with Georgia Southern University Magnolia String Quartet
First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir and Orchestra

No doubt, it made my Mom smile down from heaven, hearing her 2nd daughter sing soprano, like she used to do in her choir...
My Paternal Grandmother also sang as soprano, together with her friend my Mother-in-law who was a 2nd soprano.
Of course, my Dad who still sings but no longer as a first tenor.
Just learned that Dad quit singing, due to his severe flu recently he has said his farewell to the choir...
Used this link of:  Händel's Messiah since it was spelled correctly in German!
Encyclopedia Brittannica shows it correct: Georg Friedrich Händel with the German Umlaut, which can also be replaced by 'ae' as: Haendel.
Both, Pieter and I did sing in a previous Händel's Messiah, in 1995...
With all our traveling as International Consultants it was not easy to keep up—but we committed ourselves.
A very small segment can be seen/heard here at my Parents' home on September 20, 1995

Only 3 days earlier, Pieter snapped this photo from part of our choir the Knight Owls, performing at the annual Christmas Revue. Me, 2nd row, 2nd from left...
Since my double, closed pelvic bone fracture, I no longer dare to stand on the top riser!
We do have lots of talent in this group and it feels warm and fuzzy to belong!
This is what I was wearing when performing with the Knight Owls at different events and since the Christmas Revue we also did perform at two local nursing homes.
My Escada Jacquard Knit Rose Sweater with a wide belt (from Indonesia) on Wolford leggings.
Fake fur leg warmers from Walmart that I did fold over my boots from Italy and fake fur fingerless gloves from Walmart.

Husband Pieter and I are facing our 35th Christmas, without any family nearby.
To both of us, Christmas is the pure religious meaning.
Only in 2004, we did have our foster-daughter Anita staying with us.
Fond memories!
Still wear my hair calf boots and skirt from Escada with black sweater.
Cat boy Barty on the left is still with us but not Spooky on the right who died at age 3.5 because of heart worm...

Wishing each of you a Merry Christmas!

  2. I know how much practice must have gone into your performance. And being a part of the visiting choir group, too, must have been so satisfying. Always wonderful to hear such beautiful music this time of year and to spread joy through song. Wishing you a very merry Christmas Eve.

    1. Dearest Tammy,
Anything that you want to turn out well, takes a lot of preparation and practice. We had a very energetic conductor who coached us through it, together with the orchestra together. The choir is all local! however.
      Hugs,

  3. Dear Mariette - it is lovely to form a choir and then make wonderful music which others can enjoy listening to. One of my granddaughters is a soprano in her final fourth year of study at the Royal Northern Conservatoire of Music. We both love listening to her sing❤️
Christmas greetings to both you and Pieter🎄

Music is the most joyful thing human beings can share and it is in a way crossing all language barriers.
You can be very proud of your granddaughter completing next year her study as a soprano at the Royal Northern Conservatoire of Music!
Christmas greetings back to you as you and yours can extend it with a second day!

  6. Hello Mariette, I wish I could have been there to hear you sing and to enjoy the concert. However you spell his name, Handel was a genius, and we are lucky to have his music!

I hope that you and Pieter enjoy the Holiday, and get ready for a happy and healthy 2019!

That would have been wonderful to enjoy such heavenly music. The orchestra and the solo singers were all so well and of course our choir gave its all too. Yes, Händel sure was a genius and it remains beautiful after all those ages.
We sure enjoy winding down this year and feel very grateful for lots of things.
Wishing you likewise the very best and wishing you a happy and healthy 2019!

  14. OH, oh OH! What a wonderful time I have had reading this today and looking at all of the pictures! How I wish I had been in the building to hear my favorite of all. And to know you were in it...just perfect. In a while after I get things settled here, I will click the link and it will be almost as good as being there, listening.

I enjoyed seeing two members of the fur family too. 💗

Happy New Year to you, Pieter and the fur babies. Much love to all of you. XXXX

I love when you tell us what you are wearing. Escada is a favorite I think from several other blogs I have read. You look like a model with your wonderful figure.

    1. Dearest Katie Isabella,
Thank you so very much for your sweet comment here in the new year! It made me so very happy! At times, singing is the very best for our soul, it sure is magical and how in the world could Georg Friedrich Händel, ever compose this in one month! He sure was a genius and it must have been God who used him... With his music and words he's still touching so many on this earth!
So glad that the noisy firework night is over with. All of our fur babies came upstairs, they hate it. For fear, big Speckie was on the duvet at the back near me legs, Spunky curled up next to me and Barty on 'his' pillow above my head. Not the best night but oh so sweet.
Yes, Escada has been my favorite till it got sold to an Indian owner in London... it is not the same anymore. But the pieces I have, still fit of course and I keep wearing them. Thanks for your compliment and Tiggy-Tiger is holding me straight as she too looks like a young kitten.
May 2019 be a good year for you and yours and for yourself Katie Isabella!
      Hugs,
      Mariette

So sorry, never intended to hurt Speckie's feelings in any way! Love her to pieces and she so strongly clings to her Mami.
Hugs to you and your sweet mom!

  15. I just listened to the video. You are so tiny all I could see what the veriest tip of your head and I had my eyes strained right on you, once you wrote us where you were. I enjoyed the video so much as that is one of my most favorite pieces of all. What a joy to hear it. Thank you.

    Hugs and hugs.

True, I was in a hidden spot, also for Pieter as I was right behind the music stands from the trumpet players...
It was a true joy for being part of it, and it is also our favorite.
Thank you for your kind words and again, Happy New Year with good health for all your loved ones, and fur baby.
