On December 4, 1990 Uncle Bo Whaley did organize a special 'Welcome Home' dinner in honor of Dad.
We had gone in the morning to Savannah and spent a lovely day there, so by 16:00 we were back home and got ready to go to the Country Club.
Uncle Bo Whaley is seated to the left, me in the center with back towards you... Dad to my right.
Sadly, there are only four people still alive from this gathering of special friends in honor of Dad!
The then local bank director, seated opposite me and his wife in white blouse to the left of him.
Also the lawyer's wife in blue jacket is still with us...
Before we all got seated we mingled and Dad got a little bit to know each one of them.
Uncle Bo Whaley had even ordered a corsage for me... according to what I would be wearing...
He was quite a gentleman this former FBI agent and writer!
All 13 of us in this photo, with Pieter seated to the right of my Dad...
Taken from the other end, with Pieter barely visible.
Husband Pieter took this from the other end of the table...
This was only 3 days before our departure, with Dad flying back to The Netherlands, and Pieter and I continuing on to Indonesia; back to work!
Fond memories of dear friends!
With special warm thoughts of Uncle Bo Whaley who always embraced all of my family...
Thanks for your visit and comment!

Liebe Elisabeth,
DeleteJa es sind absolut wunderschöne Erinnerungen!
Liebe Grüße,
Mariette
Hello Mariette, It is so nice when friends honor us with this kind of celebration, and equally pleasant when we in turn can honor the visits and milestones of our own friends and family.
ReplyDelete--Jim
Dearest Jim,
DeleteYes that is true, honoring the visits and milestones of our own friends and family throughout life creates happy memories for later to hold on to. That kind of fills the void that is left when they're no longer with us.
Hugs,
Mariette
Looks like this was a lovely dinner. It was very kind of Uncle Bo Whaley to give such a special occasion for your dad. The corsage is so thoughtful! It matches the color of your shirt very nicely. It's sad many of your friends in the photos are no longer with you, but wonderful you made fond memories with them.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing, Mariette! Have a great day xo
Dearest Tamago,
DeleteYes it was a very lovely dinner and a great way for Dad, getting to know our Friends beter!
Uncle Bo was oh so special, a former FBI agent and an excellent writer. What I admired most in him was his ability to 'read' a person so well! He knew.
History is being made as the generations shift ahead...
Hugs,
Mariette
Your memories are interesting!
ReplyDeleteDearest Anne,
DeleteThey sure are and very rich for remembering with lots of gratitude!
Hugs,
Mariette
Mi piacciono queste cene, ci si conosce meglio e si passa una serata che non si dimenticherà mai.
ReplyDeleteBuon giovedi.
Caro Giancarlo,
DeleteHai ragione qui; non si dimenticherà mai!
Un abbraccio,
Mariette
Looks like it was a nice gathering for all of you. In 1990 I was living in Cordele, Georgia ... married then to my first husband. Seems forever ago. :)
ReplyDeleteDearest Tammy,
DeleteYes, it was a very nice gathering and it gave us fond memories.
Yeah, it is scary how fast time is flying by... looking back you cannot believe the numbers!
Hugs,
Mariette
Wonderful that you have so many photos of special events. Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteDearest Janey,
DeleteYes, it is a treasure trove and creates forever fond memories.
Hugs,
Mariette

ReplyDeleteCaro Giancarlo,
DeleteGrazie e altrettanto!

Liefs,
Mariette
