On December 4 of 1990, we went with Dad to Savannah.
Dad LOVED Savannah!
Here he is at the Savannah River with the Talmadge Memorial Bridge in the back.
Riverside is such a lovely place to stroll!
Yep, this is where our belongings arrived per sea container in 1983...
This time, 1990, they did arrive in Charleston, South Carolina.
Of course we all three went inside the Roman Catholic Cathedral of St. John the Baptist
That is me crossing the street in my boots.
Cathedral of St. John the Baptist now looks a lot better without all that 1990 wiring around!
Dad standing near those palm trees that line Savannah Georgia's streets.
Husband Pieter took this picture of me with the horse and carriage. Wearing my winter boots but it was a lovely day!
We did enjoy a coffee in the Hyatt Regency lounge while overlooking the Savannah River and Talmadge Memorial Bridge...
Lovely day spent and we did quite some walking from where we parked our car below the parking garage at the Hyatt Regency.

Hello Mariette, Waterfront areas are always great places to walk, and ships or boats around (especially those with masts) add an extra festive note.
ReplyDelete--Jim
Dearest Jim,
DeleteYes, that is so true and especially romantic Savannah with its palm trees and old buildings is charming.
Dad loved it and so have our numerous family members and friends that we took up there.
Hugs,
Mariette
Liebe Mariette,
ReplyDeleteFASZINIEREND!

Elisabeth
Liebe Elisabeth,

Liebe Grüße,
Mariette
Buon fine settimana.
ReplyDeleteCaro Giancarlo,
DeleteGrazie e altrettanto!
Un abbraccio,
Mariette
Great ships!
ReplyDeleteDearest Anne,
DeleteYes, we obviously got there at the right time!
Hugs,
Mariette
Thank you so much for sharing such awesome phots
ReplyDeleteDearest Jo-Anne,
DeleteYes those photos are awesome in a way!
Happy for having such memories with my Dad when he stayed with us and that special boat with mast, added to the atmosphere, together with the enormous bridge.
Hugs,
Mariette
First of all, Mariette, you had a dashing father.
ReplyDeleteSavannah is on my bucket list to visit. I think I'd love it too!
Dearest Debbie,
DeleteThank you and Dad certainly never ever looked his age!
He was almost 70 in these pictures!
Savannah certainly is a charming city to visit and to stay.
Hugs,
Mariette
I adore Savannah! I can understand why you Dad like it so much. Great pictures.
ReplyDeleteDearest Janey,
DeleteYes, Savannah is always lovely, even in winter as it is very mild and its palm trees add for a special atmosphere.
Dad sure loved it and knowing that all our belongings arrived at the Savannah harbor in 1983, was special too.
Second time they arrived in Charleston, SC.
Hugs,
Mariette
Charleston and Savannah are on my list of things to do, Just don't want to do them by myself. Historically speaking they are both musts for me. I may have to re-think the by myself thing.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed seeing your handsome dad and you.
Dearest Katie Isabella,
DeleteWhy not do it together when the spring is coming around? We're not that far away and from here we can do it!
Charleston is also on MY list as we only went there briefly for picking up our goods at the harbor and that was no sight seeing tour! Also Uncle Bo Whaley took us at that time, in his car and we had lunch with a dear friend who passed away. She used to live there and also her daughter. Special memories but we have not yet checked out the beauty of the city itself! We each drove a car home, following Uncle Bo... after they's opened up our sealed container with the two cars, coming back from Italy.
Life is short and plans are being made but finding the time to 'live' it... proves to be hard.
Thanks for your compliment!
Hugs,
Mariette
Beautiful photos from Savannah. You must have made lots of fond memories with your dad there. I visited Savannah two, three times. It’s a lovely place to visit and I’d love to go back again :-)
ReplyDeleteDearest Tamago,
DeleteWell, you are more than welcome to make a stop half way and enjoy a tea or lunch with us! We have been a lot of times to Savannah of course, with all our guests and I also went with the Japanese teens as they visited their Sister city of Dublin. Organized by YKK, the same as when I went in 2007 to Japan as chaperone.
LOVE this city and sure, these were special memories of Dad but also from a visit later with Mom together!
Hugs,
Mariette
I love Savannah. Great pictures of your Dad. I like the one with the palms lining the street.
ReplyDeleteWe went two summers ago. I want to go back when it's cooler. Nice to have taken the horse drawn carriage. I would like that.
Happy Tuesday
Betsy
Dearest Betsy,
DeleteThank you and yes, those palms always create a special atmosphere, indicating warmer temperatures.
Wish we could have taken the horse drawn carriage tour but we were so limited in time as we headed straight back home to change for a special dinner... Shown next.
Hugs,
Mariette
ReplyDeleteSavannah lijkt me een mooie stad.
Beste Marian,
DeleteJa, dit was zijn 2de bezoek maar Savannah was geweldig en later met Moeke erbij hebben we dit nog een keer herhaald en ook de hele trolley tour meegemaakt. Het is een geweldig mooie stad; heel typisch.
Liefs,
Mariette
