Our Rock Garden

Yes, we did create a Rock Garden with all the BIG rocks we collected on our property and in the area.
We have toted them home, tied to a spade, dragging behind us.
Happy me with the first blossoms on the cactus and succulents that Pieter did bring home from California.
Mauzie with me on April 24, 1985 near cactus bloom.
Our 1st home was build on a slope, just like our 2nd home.
This very spot I've often had to shovel up the topsoil with sentipede grass seed, after it got washed out once again by a heavy tropical rain.
Pieter often was gone, so I had to take care of home and garden.

  1. Hello Mariette, You are lucky to have a degree of sloping in your grounds--it increases air flow and prevents stagnation. Orchards are often planted on sloping sites. You and Pieter are industrious in everything--imagine dragging all those rocks by hand! The results are beautiful.

    1. Dearest Jim,
We always have a degree of sloping but it also can cause some very wet areas.
This garden was hard to have the sentipede seed germinate and grow... it got washed down onto the road so often, where I had to scoop it up. Both of us were shocked at the price of sentipede seed; like it was gold.
Yeah, how we hauled some of those rocks back home was quite something!
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  2. We have a large rock garden in Colorado and I have always wanted to to plant flowers. Problem is you must find something the deer and chipmunks won’t eat.

    1. Dearest Janey,
You sure got to keep the natural habitat in mind when planting anything! We have seen deer in our present garden but never in our previous one.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  3. Beautiful yellow flowers on the cactus. Ours are always red. We keep them indoors because of the cold in the garden.

    God bless.

Those cactus flowers were gorgeous every year. Here we're lucky to live in a climate where they can flourish but still we can have unexpected and sudden frost that might kill a lot of plants.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  4. Your rock garden looks wonderful, Mariette! I don't think we see a lot of rock gardens. The yellow flowers are very pretty. Cacti make variety of beautiful flowers, don't they? :-)

We always enjoyed it as it was such a special part in our garden.
Cacti are surprising, we enjoyed the ones out West when we visited Arizona.

Sí, el esfuerzo extra para llevarlos a casa en una pala, fue gratificante y esas plantas se veían muy bien en ellas.
      Abrazos,

  8. Rock gardens possess their own wonderful kind of beauty .... there are days I miss living in a stand alone house, our townhome grounds are lovely but I miss having my own dirt garden. Surrounded by rocks.

    1. Dearest Helen,
Oh, for about half a year in Pennsylvania in our Town House, we had no garden either. Also for almost one year in Italy, where we lived at the 5th (top) floor of the apartment with only two balconies...
Right now, our garden is quite big!
      Hugs,
      Mariette

The question mainly is for finding those rocks and bringing them home...
      Good luck in re-creating yours!
