Here I would love to share with you our travels and adventures as international mushroom consultants. MEMOIRS about husband Pieter Vedder, who was a SCIENTIFIC PIONEER in Commercial Mushroom Cultivation Education. We had an 87 m deep well dug for watering our garden

Due to extreme heat in summer, here in the South East of the USA, in Georgia, we decided to have us an 87 m (285 feet) deep well dug.
Due to city water restrictions, we had no other option or let our veggies, flowers, plants and shrubs go to waste...
On Monday morning around 8:00 AM on July 15, 1985, they arrived for digging our well...
Pieter was at work but he had already laid all the electric wiring, to the spot where the pump had to be placed.
BUT this man did not listen to me...
I ran quickly inside the house, and grabbed the wireless phone, while I had rang Pieter.
Now I handed the phone to the stubborn man and I heard him say: Yes Sir, sure Sir!
He then handed the phone back to me, and grumbled...
They worked for 7 hours...
A lot of action was going on in our yard...
What a muddy job!
By 15:15 they pulled the switch over and it started running!
This proved, that Pieter had correctly connected the electrical wiring!
The first water starts running out...
Still dirty water, for several hours...
Pieter came home from work early, for connecting some pipes.
I'd made the photos, so he too could see what they'd done.

    1. Dearest Claudia,
There was no problem but this is just the normal way a well gets dug, deep down that is.

  2. Hello Mariette, We already knew that Pieter would set up the job correctly, but it's a good thing that you were there as his deputy! Many workmen are very talented, but if you want things first class and your way, you had best be present to keep an eye on things.

In my house in Cleveland I had a well for all of my water, but my well-water was both sulfurous and full of iron, and smelled and tasted terrible. I was very happy the day I got city water piped into the house. The well would have been fine for the yard, bur I never did any landscaping or yard-work there.

    1. Dearest Jim,
Yes, you are right, they might be able to pull that off with a number of people but not with Pieter and neither with his deputy.
Oh my, the sulfurous taste of water and even the smell, under the shower..., is awful. Here in Georgia at the coast you have that often. Glad you got city water!
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  3. Looks like it was a lot of work! Too bad the workman wouldn’t listen to you. But glad things were done with no issue in the end.

Have a great day, Mariette xo

    1. Dearest Tamago,
A lengthy day of messy work, yes.
No, he tried to ignore my words and start doing his own thing.
Glad I ran into the house for ringing Pieter and with a few words from my side, he got it and acted. All the electric wiring Pieter had dug in already ahead of time, would not have worked as several yards would have been missing...
Didn't care about the man grumbling; important was it got done right!
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  4. How annoying that the man wouldn't listen to you Mariette, I guess there are still unbelievably men out there that will only take instructions from men, dinosaurs 😉 Thankfully it all worked in the end. They are very popular here also for the same reason, the underground water is definitely not as clean though, but the plants are not fussy about that ✨

    1. Dearest Grace,
That was very annoying indeed but I think I reacted well to 'his' problem!
The water came out only muddy for several hours and then was very clean.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  5. It’s amazing how water is found by drilling deep into the ground.

    1. Dearest Anne,
Well, there are all sorts of water layers below, lots of springs and aquifers that produce good water for use, once we reach them for tapping into them.

  6. Mariette, I've had a few experiences like that, some with construction on the house, two with car purchases. One car salesman was so persistent with his condescension and insisting on talking to my husband, I took my new car purchasing business elsewhere!

Yes, some male do behave odd like that but you and I no doubt know how to handle that well! Purchasing power overrules...

  7. What a big job, taking several hours. I hope it all got done to your satisfaction in the end. Was the water for gardening, or could it be used for drinking? Washing the car?

    God bless.

    1. Dearest Victor,
Yes, it all got carried out, the way Pieter intended them to do. This water was for our garden solely as the piping system with the connections was set up that way. We used the regular city water for the home and also for washing our car.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  8. Jesus! Cavaram fundo!

      Mariette
