Here I would love to share with you our travels and adventures as international mushroom consultants. MEMOIRS about husband Pieter Vedder, who was a SCIENTIFIC PIONEER in Mushroom Cultivation Education. His practical handbook is in 9 languages and is called the MUSHROOM BIBLE: https://mariettesbacktobasics.blogspot.com/2020/08/modern-mushroom-growing-2020-harvesting.html

Relaxing Weekend at Valle de Bravo, Mexico

Our first week at work ended with a royal treatment at the owner's lake house in Valle de Bravo
Pieter, happily standing outside with the spectacular view of the lake and mountains!
During our 2nd stay there on January 15 of 1995, Pieter did sail on the lake with Agustín; his first time ever.
Breakfast outside, on the patio... Eco friendly without any paper napkins, plates or cups!
It can't be more romantic than that!
Agustín and Carmen always were such gracious hosts. They have over those twelve years of working for the company, and even far beyond that, become great friends!
View from the patio over the lake...
Such a lovely place to come to with their family and friends...
We sure didn't mind being here Friday late afternoon through Sunday!
View from the pool area.
View to the other side, as seen from the pool area.

    1. Dearest Victor,
Yes it is a beautiful place and I'm glad to show my readers some Mexican insights, far different from what they learn through the news.
      Flowers brighten ones day!

Well, we sure were not there for capturing photos as a tourist but for our work, Pieter had his always handy to capture a lot of macro images if in doubt about any disease or so. But we sure are glad we have these few, as a wonderful memory with dear friends!
      Hugs,
      Mariette

    1. Dearest Kim,
Yes, we are since we last saw them in Acapulco in 2005 when they drove up to our Hyatt Regency from Mexico City to meet us. Who would do that, such a long distance drive?! During our final consulting period in 2006 we stayed again with them at a new place in Valle de Bravo. We have communicated through email and I wish them happy birthdays but also realize quite well that they have their own family and in 2018 already 9 grandchildren! That takes up a lot of their time and he is no longer involved in mushrooms. There is life after mushrooms...
But Pieter's motto always has been, make friends first and then money... It shows over the years that by being asked back over quite a long period it was worth it!
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  4. What a beautiful place and home - somehow one never expects this in Mexico. I've only visited border towns which are not the best places but I know there is a lot of hidden beauty in that vast country. I would like to go back, however in all honesty, at this point in time I doubt it. There are so many places still calling to me on the proverbial 'bucket list' that it's going to be hard to choose where to go when we are free to roam once more!

Enjoy this lovely day Mariette - storms have left thankfully and we are having a few perfect days.
    Hugs - Mary

    1. Dearest Mary,
Most people do have a completely wrong idea about Mexico because they have been way too much brainwashed by the always very negative media. That is sad as the country is a cultural and historical gem and has so much beauty to offer! Best of course is to be fluent in Spanish for managing to interact. Tourists seldom get to the core of any country, they just tip-toe through and all is catered to 'their' food needs and so on. Pure life is so much different from any tourist menu!
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  6. Hello Mariette, What a spectacular place for a house. I noticed how your meal and its outdoor scenery was enhanced by an attractive table setting--these days more and more a lost art, but I'll bet not chez Vedder!

Thank you and yes, that sure was a dream spot!
The meal was enhanced greatly by the company of dear friends and also the table setting. We still adhere to that very much; never liked the paper plate or cup habit.
      Hugs,

Was ist bisher deine Fundgrube? Was hast du schon alles erreicht?
      Lieber Gruss,
      Mariette
