{Highlights of US Route 93 Arizona}

For you some of the highlights along US Route 93 Arizona which we traveled up and down.
Fantastic maze of towering rock formation on the outskirts of Kingman

Incredible rock formation
We traveled from Phoenix Sky Harbour Airport in about 4 h 40 min the 483 km (300 mi) to the Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge on the Nevada border and on to the Hyatt Place Las Vegas in Nevada. See link below, about previous post.
The US Route 93 is also called the CANAMEX CORRIDOR

Indeed, a very 'green desert' it was only too bad that we could not stop alongside the road...

Sorry, the car window is not very clean... But don't you love the rugged area? Vast valleys and scenic vistas.
Nearing the Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge through very rugged area.

Just a dark cloud passing but we had no rain at all.

{Palo Verde Tree blooming in Scottsdale Arizona}

On March 24, we were at the Costco Wholesale Gas Station Airpark in Scottsdale, Arizona.
We already had admired the masses of yellow blooms alongside the highway and now we saw one nearby. It is the beautiful Palo Verde Tree!
Such bright yellow everywhere you turned...
The Palo Verde seems to be the State Tree!
Arizona in general is such a well maintained State, everywhere you turn.
It makes for feeling happy, to see such trees!
Very friendly people too!
And a happy me!
Filling up the rental car, our Toyota Corolla...

{Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge in Arizona}

On July 20 of 2009, both of us went with our best friends to Las Vegas for a long weekend. So we had the opportunity to visit Hoover Dam. We were in awe about the construction of the Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge, at 890 feet high (271 meters) with 1,060 feet span (323 meters) belonging to the highest bridges. Just click the hyperlink for very interesting photos.
Using my video camera in 2009 and we were so impressed by this huge Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge!
We always wanted to go back and see the completion of this HUGE bridge...
Construction everywhere at the time we visited the Hoover Dam in July of 2009.
Another friendly tourist offered to take a picture from both of us!
Construction of the Bridge you can see again to the left...
Here we come! On March 22, we got up at 2:30 AM in order to fly to Phoenix, Arizona and using again a free companion ticket from Delta Airline's American Express card. It would expire on March 31.
Here we are at the parking lot and we have to climb up to the bridge...
From Phoenix it took us some 4 hours driving via Highway 93, a very scenic route and we got here around 5:00 PM.
Once we climbed all the way up to the actual bridge the view was incredible!
Remember, this bridge is 890 feet high (271 meters)!
Lake Mead, the country's largest man made lake is in the back and the Colorado River underneath after it passed the Hoover Dam.
It was a long day and finally after almost 6 years we're here!
This is a four-lane bridge and there is no trembling when huge trucks pass over it.
Pieter using his Nikon and I used my iPad...
Standing on the second-highest bridge of any kind in the USA and the 14th in the world.
Hoover Dam Bridge ←click the link for more info.
Very happy feeling and oh so rewarding...
Pieter captured an excellent over view with the Nikon!
Explanation about the funding of this Mike O'Callaghan - Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge
Yes, at the end of this ramp up to the bridge (and down) there is the border of Arizona and you enter the State of Nevada.
Mind boggling how they secured those rocks for being safe.
We only had to drive about half an hour to Las Vegas, from Boulder City where the Hoover Dam is located.
We stayed at Hyatt Place Las Vegas and went to bed real early after such a long but very rewarding day.
Time difference is 3 hours with Georgia.
This is breakfast time next morning at the Hyatt Place.

{Scottsdale Arizona's Skyline Solar}

While driving to The Boulders, we did pass some impressive solar carport structures on N. Scottsdale Road in Scottsdale Arizona. That looked really neat and just imagine with those high temperatures how 'cool' it will be to get into your car. So back home I did some research because in our town, right here in Dublin, we do have a company that produces Photovoltaic Solar Power Panels. The company is from Germany and is called MAGE SOLAR USA. This company no longer exists...
Jewish Community Center, Scottsdale, AZ ←click it and you can enlarge photo # 4 which I used here above. This is the Scottsdale Arizona Skyline Solar we saw when passing by.
Yep, this is the one we drove past, I googled it and it sure shows the Going Solar: JCC Scottsdale, AZ ←click it.
For such a sunny state as Arizona it is of course no surprise to find that AZ Top in Nation for Solar Energy… ←click it.
Here above you also can see that the Arizona State University is having a huge parking space that has solar panels installed!
Both of us were very impressed with Arizona!
Clean energy and in general very clean environment.
Kudos to female Governor Jan Brewer

{1880s Rawhide, Arizona - Western Town}

Most of you might recall RAWHIDE, ←(click it) the CBS TV show that ran from 1959 till 1966 in which Rowdy Yates got played by Clint Eastwood and Gil Favor, the trail boss, played by Eric Fleming...←click it.
We both did visit Rawhide, Arizona in 1986 and in 1987 during the before mentioned SPAWN MATE SYMPOSIUM where my husband Pieter lectured.
Back to RAWHIDE ←(click it)... on our final day in Arizona!
This is husband Pieter in 1986 when we went for Steak Dinner to Rawhide, during the above mentioned Symposium.
That's me in 1986...
Yes, this is us after we left The Boulders in Carefree, where we ate lunch. It is 15:45 o'clock in the afternoon and still 109°F or 43°C but it is very pleasant, due to the low humidity!
Rawhide, at Wild Horse Pass is about 15 miles south of Phoenix airport's rental car return; so quite convenient!
RAWHIDE...
Our nice weather is ending soon!
Beautiful Bronze Statues...
We arrived early for the 17:00 o'clock opening till 22:00 o'clock.
During weekends it opens at NOON!
Oh oh, they let me pass but threaten husband Pieter...
Those men look MEAN!
Pieter made it inside as well and here he stands in front of THE MOONSHINE ROOM...
This is how they did transport he BAD guys during the 1880s...
LOOK: This cannon featured in the motion picture WILD WILD WEST starring Will Smith...
There is even a real 1880s style blacksmith forge!
You can buy all kinds of gifts made with horse shoes and others.
Interesting to watch...
BUTTERFIELD STAGELINE
RAWHIDE, ARIZONA
On their website you can read: Our authentic replica allows guests to experience the majestic Sonoran Desert the way early settlers did. Your ride, guided by a trained mule team, meanders through Sonoran Desert trails.
Here you see the mules, waiting for the first passengers...
Pieter is studying the breaks on such an old wagon from the 1880s...
Rawhide Electric Chair...
Having a conversation with a cowboy in front of Rawhide's Jail.
Interesting stories!
Well, if you had to spend the night in jail, this is what you got...
Not quite comparable with the room that is waiting for us that evening at +Hyatt Place Tempe/Phoenix Airport after we drop off our rental car!
The Sheriff is keeping a watchful eye on the jail corner!
Yep, this is how the doctor arrived with his horse or mule and all the necessary items in a wooden tool box.
To the left you see people entering the Steakhouse...
There even was a Mission and from here I say goodbye and thank you so much for joining us on our Arizona journey!
We flew home the next morning, on September 5.
Little did we know that on Monday, September 8, there would be severe flooding in the Phoenix area.
Flooding prompts Brewer to declare statewide emergency ←click to see why Governer Brewer had to declare this statewide emergency.
We felt so blessed for having had such great weather till the very end!

Rawhide Theme Song Lyrics
Title: "Rawhide"
Written By: "Ned Washington"
Performed By: "Frankie Laine"

Keep movin', movin', movin',
Though they're disapprovin',
Keep them doggies movin' Rawhide!

Don't try to understand 'em,
Just rope and throw and grab 'em,
Soon we'll be living high and wide.

My heart's calculatin'
My true love will be waitin',
Be waiting at the end of my ride.

Move 'em on, head 'em up,
Head 'em up, move 'em out,
Move 'em on, head 'em out Rawhide!

Set 'em out, ride 'em in
Ride 'em in, let 'em out,
Cut 'em out, ride 'em in Rawhide...
