{Parcel from High Heeled Life}

It is a special feast when the mailman unexpectedly delivers a parcel. Anxiously opening up and unwrapping some sweets from Celia M. High Heeled Life & Resilientista, the author of the blog High Heeled Life in the Country. How exciting to find cookies from our birth country...
A box with Dutch Daelmans Stroopwafels: Caramel Wafers or Coffee warmers.
So I did make us a Cappuccino, using our new Capresso FrothPRO.
We found our Capresso FrothPRO at Tuesday Morning in Atlanta.
Of course topping it off with Dutch Droste cocoa, using my Birkmann Cappuccino Schablonen from Germany, with two hearts.
More sweets: Milk chocolate filled with hazelnut bonbons...
Celia's own label...
Indeed: Nut Dream
THANKS again Celia and Mr. G. This was such a sweet surprise!
So we did indulge in some delicious cappuccino with sweets. There was still a vegan chocolate rose left over. Pieter LOVES the Dutch Stroopwafels/Caramel Wafers.
Using my Wedgwood cream color on cream color china.
Those bonbons look so elegant in that box with golden ribbon...
French 4 inch paper doily under cup, on saucer.
French Baccarat crystal vase with our own roses. All came together just perfect.
Look at those hazelnut bonbons; like roses too...
This perfect red rose got real emotional when facing those rose bonbons.
It shed a tear...
French Le Jacquard Français table linens in a rose damask pattern of course.
Those woven damask roses do resemble a true rose.
Pure bliss, so romantic and delicious!
Celia did also include some special tea but I will show that another time.
Hope you enjoyed this as much as we did.
Do you also like to eat chocolate roses?
Have you ever tasted the Dutch Stroopwafers?

{LOVE for Valentine's Day 2012}

For Saint Valentine's Day 2012, I did mail out a few selected special 100% cotton cards. Do you know the feel of 100% cotton paper for writing on with your fountain pen? Special 100% cotton stationery is also used in my: Learn from Mariette Classes, at Mariette's Back to Basics. In a fast-paced world, where it seems every idea is communicated via email or text message, penning a special note or beautiful letter by hand becomes an art to be preserved. Learn why creating an artful communication on paper can lead to deepened thoughts, expressed with grace. My dear friend Celia M. from High Heeled Life & Resilientista understands that also, as she too is promoting the art of letter writing in her blog posts. Therefore it was more than natural that she would receive one of my special cards as you can see here at: February Tea Trolley. One other was sent to a dear friend who lost her LOVE and the last one to my brother Harry and his wife. Timely, mailed out on January 11, so he had it before his tragic accident. He sure needs all the LOVE and angels available for his long and speedy recovery.
A perfect 100% cotton card, embossed in gold and in combination with fountain pen writing it becomes a special message.
This was nearly impossible to photograph... the first image is a scan.
The true beauty of the gold embossing is different every time...
Just spelling out the word LOVE...
Do any of you do hand writing with a fountain pen?

{Our Vintage French Angel Lamp}

On November 8, of 2011, I did post about: {Our Living Room} and the day after, on November 9 about: {Our Living Room ANGELS-CHERUBS}. Celia from: Celia M. High Heeled Life & Resilientista, asked in her comment for showing the Angel Lamp above the sofa... Sorry, it took a while but HERE it is; a nice Vintage French Angel Lamp that we brought back from Europe.
Celia was referring to this photo below.
Now you get an idea what we're showing here.
This one never made it into my Zen Cart on line boutique: Mariette's Back to Basics
It had to be for keeps, as I was head-over-heels in love with it.
Sweet Angel or Cherub?
Cherub's pass photo...
Handyman Pieter did change the European wiring into American and voilà.
It was very hard to capture on camera! With flash light and without and light on and off...
Guess you all got an idea...

Do you have an angel or cherub lamp?

{I've been TAGGED by High Heeled Life}

On February 5, I got TAGGED by Celia from High Heeled Life. Due to my birthday on February 6, I was not able to respond right away. But here it is:
Quick Blogger TAG

1. Who tagged you?
Dear friend Celia from Celia M. High Heeled Life & Resilientista did tag me. She has been such a ROLE MODEL for all of us bloggers. Fluffing back from the stage she's been, to where she's now, is quite an inspiration to ALL of us! Read her story: My Story... It all starts somewhere.

2. What is the main idea of your blog?
Reaching out to the world in plain Mariette's Back to Basics writing about Life Style. Nothing borrowed, nothing copied, but from the heart and by my own experience. Sharing Our Home & Garden, use of lace and linens, heirloom antique, working with fresh flowers, baking, making chocolates and healthy sweets (being diabetes type 2 myself), tea & coffee, sewing, crocheting, knitting, embroidery etc. etc.

3. What are your top 3 places to shop?
Neiman Marcus Last Call; TJ Maxx and Internet.

4. If you got $ 500 what would you spend it on?
Humane Society, Animal Shelter for food and treatment.

5. Flats or heels?
Never flats as that gives me not my best posture but neither such HIGH heels as from the latest years. Those are too much in my opinion, besides it doesn't go well with my long legs as I am not intending to market them.

 6. Favorite colors (be specific!)?
Changed this to plural as the question otherwise becomes impossible.
For interior I go for white, not the harsh grayish whites but creamy and soft whites.
Furniture is a mixture of white and French oak with leather for that cozy warm 'nest' feeling.
Clothes... well I have lots of blacks but also soft colors. Let me put it different: red is NOT my color but for the rest it all depends on my mood for the day, as I do love change and the unexpected. Nothing boring in my/our lives!

7. Favorite blogger of the moment and why?
This again is not a fair question as it definitely should be plural! But I certainly do admire the lady and friend who passed it on to me. Don't want to put the ball back in her court though.
So next I do admire Johanna from Silber+Rosen (Silver+Roses), because of her genuine writing talent and composing the most unique settings with beautiful personal china, silver and linens. Even using her own plants and citrus trees for blending it all in.
She never is a copy cat, off some leading or trendy posts (as many do!).
Talking about 'cat', she produces a fabulous post about the lucky feline Wiski, that shares his life with her. Anyone loving animals gets my admiration!
Johanna maintains a steady style of her own and is not easily taken off from her practical and beautiful way of styling.
A very rare combination that only is found in a limited number of ladies.
Besides, she does not use too many words and keeps the length of each post just perfect.
More of us should adhere to that example.

8. One of the goals you have for your blog?
Showing other ladies, especially the younger ones, that graceful styling doesn't need to be done the way big catalogs or magazines prompt us to follow. Just by using common sense, like the French Grand-Mère's old fashioned good and simple advice, we can blend items that have become heirlooms and were loved by the women in our lives.
Hoping to instill some appreciation for certain heirlooms.
If possible, creating some more with our own hands.
Finding happiness in the little things of daily life is far more important than following others like a hype; which seldom fills that void for happiness.
Being content is one of life's secret to happiness.

9. when did you start blogging?
Right before I became paralyzed... end of 2009 on November 23.

10. Who do you tag?
(At least 5 people: include names and links!)

Johanna from Silber+Rosen (Silver+Roses)
Angela from Angela Lace
Amreen from Fashion (blog no longer exists...)
Elizabeth and Gary from Home is Where the Heart is
Mieke from Gebreide Sjaals (Knitted Shawls)

Hope you enjoy visiting these ladies with quite a range of different things to offer.
For the 5 people that I have TAGGED, feel free to participate. It is no MUST as we all understand that it is a lot of work... AMEN!

{Blogger MICHIKO needs YOUR SUPPORT!}

This blog is a plea for help from bloggers around the world. Poor MICHIKO from Victoria, Australia has been involved in an accident on Decembe 15. She got badly injured, just read her son's post from yesterday for more here. Sadly, Michiko has accidentally deleted her older posts, including this meaningful one with ALL the sweet comments!  Please do follow her blog, as a gift to her, for showing we all care and leave a short note for encouragement. That will build her up more than you ever will imagine! Michiko is originally from Japan. So let us pass along some blog LOVE...
Let us show her OUR SUPPORT!
Celia from the blog: Celia M. High Heeled Life & Resilientista will understand best what this lady is going through... as I've mentioned in my previous post here.
Thanks for your help, I know that bloggers are the nicest bunch of people!

I only can reward ONE of you with a silver alphabet angel charm in my GIVEAWAY; see sidebar at the top...

{Use Bobèches with YOUR Candles!}

We have been talking all along about the Advent season and with Christmas just five days away, I thought it interesting to share with you the use of bobèches with your candles. Using tapers for our festive Christmas dinner and candles all throughout the home for the winter season, it makes bobèches a very wise investment. They are not expensive at all and will reward you for catching the melted wax before it will get to your fineries. Sure, they are not only for Christmas—this is something that is needed year round. With New Year's Eve coming first, Valentine and on and on for parties and dinners served at the home. Especially in a downward economy, we tend to entertain more at home. Have a look at my bobèches below. They're all from glass and of course there are some rare antique crystal ones from e.g. Baccarat, France but let's keep it within budget! Don't forget to scroll all the way down for a special Birthday girl; one that I ADMIRE!
Naturally, I will be showing you more angels too... One is clinging onto the candle and there is a cute one sitting in front of the Royal Selangor pewter candle holders, which we bought in Singapore. A cute sheep stands by...
The silver metallic thread lace doily is hand crocheted by a former neighbor in The Netherlands, she is from Turkey. Such art work I do treasure a life time, as it also is labor of love.
The cute angel was given by our extended family as a Christmas gift.
These two bobèches do have a gold edge, found them on August 28, 1996 at Read & Barton in Vero Beach, FL.
The silver tray was handmade for us in Kotagede, Indonesia.
Now two sterling silver candle holders with fluted bobèches have joined the Royal Selangor pewter ones.
Inside the candle holder you see one of my Hugger Brand Candle Snuggers for holding any candle straight, safe and secure. You can find them in a previous post: {Hugger Candle Snuggers}.
The two Royal Selangor pewter candle holders.
 Royal Selangor is established in 1885 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Two Mason's Mandalay Chartreuse candle holders and two silver plated tall ones with tapers and bobèches.
Each of them also holds a Hugger Candle Snugger.
Candles are Dutch Gouda. Yes, Gouda is a city that produces fine cheeses and candles!
Soft look without flash...
Mason's Mandalay Chartreuse is a beautiful pattern with gold edging too.
Again soft look without flash...
Do you love candles as much as I do?

Please do visit dear friend Celia from Celia M. High Heeled Life & Resilientista as today is her Birthday!

{"A Blogger I Admire" - Celia from High Heeled Life}

Just want you to meet the lively, vivacious young woman Celia M. High Heeled Life & Resilientista who had an interesting career in the corporate world. She was active in sports like kick boxing, volleyball and weight work outs. A beautiful, slender girl with a petite size and a love for upscale designer clothes, high heels and elegant handbags.
That did all end abruptly though...

It was on Sunday, October 28 of 2006, that life for Celia M. changed forever. She was about to cross the street to the apartment of a friend for a birthday party... Other party members that also just arrived, found her in the middle of the street. A car had hit her and she was not responding, had numerous broken bones and serious internal injuries. Because she was unconscious and not breathing on her own, they could not do surgery or anything requiring general anesthetic...

Almost six weeks later she did wake up from her coma.
Her sister took this photo while she was still on the ventilator, not able to breath on her own.
Her right elbow was destroyed, multiple fractures still had to heal, such as part of the spine at her neck. She sustained brain injury and had been given 54 unites of blood... She had to learn again how to speak, eat and walk.
After about 3½ years of living at home, most in her pajamas (read here →)  My Dolce Jeans Shrunk? ... Saying Good-bye due to this being the easiest way with all her incisions for the steel bars and screws in her right forearm and the artificial right elbow. Her right arm was in a hand shake position for 1½ years before the destroyed elbow got replaced. She never was able to touch her face, her head or eat for 1½ years... Also her right ankle is held together with pins and screws; hence the title of 'High Heeled Life'.
Celia's artificial right elbow...

And yet, on March 1 of 2010, she started this blog, with trembling fingers on the keyboard of her laptop. Her Mr. G. would bring it to her in bed and wait till her tiny fingers would start... Just imagine the effort it takes for her! Read: Hand Bags and High Heels …. Learning to like flats and wristlets to understand some more about her condition. Her brother and sister fought for her right arm, as the hospital opted for amputation...
Look at where she has arrived now with 779 followers of her lovely blog with inspiring posts. On May 24 of 2011, the Brain Injury Society of Toronto published Celia's story. Look here: Celia's Story. Celia is not a native English speaker, she came from the Old World too, like me. Considering all that, her mother tongue, her many injuries that do cause her pain, her artificial elbow and still this girl is reaching out like only few people ever manage to do so in a lifetime.
She and Mr. G. are also the human parents to two darling dogs; Stella and Dolce. Just click on the hyperlinks of their names to meet those cute furbabies. Please join me in my admiration of this very special blogger friend. If you have not done so yet, please do follow her and leave her a comment as she so deserves it! There is nothing more I can add to this remarkable lady's journey. A true role model to all of us, showing us clearly what is important in life and that we can continue with a lot less. Like I would love to always say: Back to the Basics...
Thanks Celia for your personal friendship; it means a lot to me!
