On our patio we also have the exotic tropical plant Ixora and it looked so lovely on July 4th. Due to plenty of late afternoon showers, like in the tropics, it was quite happy!
A bright yellow color with touches of pink...
Far more common is the red variety which you already may know.
But look; only six weeks later but after a dry spell...
Looking all perked up after a generous 'drink' from the green hose in the back...
Without water there will be NO LIFE!

Pretty yellow. Very hot here. With high humidity by afternoon that is really suffocating. We bought some flowering pushes last weekend. I think they are gardenia though very tiny little blooms. The Arabic word that Indian guy told Sam translates to orchid and they are definitely not orchids. HA! Have a wonderful Wednesday. Tammy

Probably you got some jasmine bushes and the guy might have told Sam the truth about these blossoms resembling mini orchids. Look here at these pictures: {White Indian Jasmine the Queen of Flowers}

Hello Mariette, I may have seen some of these flowers around Taipei--I'll have to take a closer look the next time I spot one. Weather patterns seem to get stranger and stranger. We have storms almost every day, yet there is an overall drought because the total downfall is still not enough.

DeleteIn Indonesia we did have the red version all over and I guess you also find them in Taipei.
We sure need rain too, the lawn is starting to look very ugly already. Lack of water is a terrible thing on most crops. Our gardens are only for pleasure and we don't have to make a living from it. Hope you soon get it balanced out.

Hallo lieve Mariette,
ReplyDeleteHet is met buiten potplanten altijd maar de vraag of ze het wel of niet goed doen en dat zal ook mede afhangen van het klimaat.De naam en foto van de plant zei mij in eerste instantie helemaal niets,al zal ik hem vast wel eens ergens tegen gekomen zijn in de tropen of in tropische kassen,het blad deed mij een beetje aan koffiestruik denken.Ging wat Google en zie dat Ixora familie is van Rubiacean en tot die familie behoren ook koffiestruiken,zag ik dus goed aan het blad van jou plant.
Ben vandaag zo ongeveer 6 keer begonnen om verder te gaan met deze reactie,telkens moest ik achter pc vandaan,telefoon,visite,naar de oven,Har die klopt tegen het raam of ik even wil komen kijken,hij is de voordeur aan het schuren etc.
Lees dat het bij jullie erg warm is, dus komt de tuinslang goed van pas.

DeleteJa, of het om kamerplanten of buiten potplanten gaat, de omgeving en verzorging hebben inderdaad een grote invloed op hun wel en wee. Maar we hopen maar verder het beste. Volgende week zou er weer flink onweer komen, dagelijks... We wachten maar af en anders gewoon met de tuinslang water geven...
Dus Har is ook goed druk nog en jij natuurlijk met koken, bakken en braden.
Je had het dus goed gezien dat het een familielid van de koffiestruiken is. Er zijn erg veel Ixora variëteiten ook.

ReplyDeleteIxora is a beautiful plant. I see that you grow it in a pot; I could probably grow it up here and bring it in for the winter.
We are very dry up here. We are conserving water where we can. My latest is to put basins in the sinks and empty them into buckets for watering. It's a real eye opener as to how much water we use wastefully.

I really hope to be able to follow your beautiful blog more regularly now... It's been such an eventful year (in a positive way!), and now after my stay in Rhodes and having settled in in the new apartment, I should hopefully have more time. Oh; BEAUTIFUL Ixora with pretty yellow color and light pink in the center part, Mariette. Haha, I thought a kid of hydrangea. We have had a terrible rainy weather with land slide damages in some parts of Japan. Nature is Not Fair sometimes(^^;)

ReplyDeletediese Pflanze kenne ich gar nicht. Möglicherweise gibt es sie bei uns jedoch als Topfpflanze.
Für viele Gewächse ist es in unseren Breiten draußen einfach zu kalt, besonders im Winter. Man bräuchte dafür ein Gewächshaus.
Hier war der Regen inzwischen auch angekommen - gestern spät goss es ganz fürchterlich. Heute zeigt sich aber wieder blauer Wolkenhimmel.

Wir brauchen auch ein Gewächshaus da es in den zwei Monaten vom Winter auch frieren kann.
