About Me

Here I would love to share with you our travels and adventures as international mushroom consultants. MEMOIRS about husband Pieter Vedder, who was a SCIENTIFIC PIONEER in Mushroom Cultivation Education. {The Most Dangerous Mushroom: The Death Cap, Amanita phalloides}

In the fall, when we have had some rain, we often see lots of mushrooms show up in our garden and in nature.
One of those we had in our garden and husband Pieter did make some excellent photos of The Most Dangerous Mushroom: The Death Cap, Amanita phalloides
A beautiful photo of The Death Cap, Amanita phalloides... the alba species

Photo is taken on the driveway...
My husband Pieter, a lifetime Mycologist, wants to warn my readers that ALWAYS when you find any mushroom with such a volva; don't eat it!
Before, I had taken these photos from a little cluster of Marasmius sp.
Also seen in the above photo with the Death Cap.
Those are tiny, tiny and I placed $ 0.01 next to it for comparison.
They are so frail looking and are not poisonous, however who would try to feed on them?

  1. Deaerst Mariette,
    thank you for this warning!
Well, I must say, I never eat mushrooms I would find anywhere...I never would be 100% sure, if they are eatable!!!
Have a lvoely rest of the week,
    Love, hugs and blessings,
    Claudia xo

  2. Liebe Mariette,
    Alles Liebe

  5. Thanks for putting this information out there. We are enjoying the return of the chanterelles and puff balls, and we raise cultivated shiitakes. Our advice is to avoid any mushroom that has a poisonous look-alike unless you're confident you have the expertise to know the difference!

  6. Dear Marietette,
I like to eat mushrooms very much, but only buy at supermarkets.
    Have a lovely week!

  10. Those are beautiful pictures of mushrooms. I wouldn't know it would be so dangerous! It's the best not to pick wild mushrooms unless you really know about them, like your husband Pieter!

    Fijn weekend, lieve groet

  16. Such good photos for identification, dear Mariette! Thank you to Pieter for the very good warning. I love to eat mushrooms, but only store-bought ones. I do love to see them growing in nature - so mysterious and magical! Wishing you and Pieter a good weekend! Hugs xo Karen

    Sara
