In August I had a German customer that purchased off my website.
This 925/1000 Giovanni Raspini Silver Key Ring in its signature blue box.
The shipping via regular Postal Service was $ 40.95
SHOCKING for 1.60 oz...
Not in a parcel but in a Tyvek envelope.
Tracking was a horror...
From us it went to Orlando, then to Miami!
Back up to West Palm Beach, Florida
To Louisville, Kentucky
To Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
AND BACK TO Louisville again!!!
And AGAIN to Philadelphia...
From there it crossed the Ocean, to Cologne, on to Frankfurt and finally to its destination!
This Antique German REPOUSSE Silver Angels Napkin or Card Holder did travel far better!
For only US $ 17.51 it went with FedEx to Japan!
Needless to say that the weight of this parcel was about 4 x that of the silver key ring!
Yet very economically!
Of course, it is because of the Global Power of eBay as they find the BEST option available.

Hello Mariette, At least the German delivery did finally arrive at its destination. International shipping is one of the nightmares of both collecting and selling. I have had more lost packages from the comparatively few international shipments than from many domestic (American) purchases. It is good to know about Ebay's new program.

USPS tracking is scary indeeed. The key ring traveled around a lot! Shipping cost $17.51 is really good especially for FedEx. Great program!

Finally catching up to blogs since my return from holidays. Wow, that parcel sure went around until it reached its destination.
ReplyDeletePostage in Australia is extremely expensive, and if I have to send gits to anyone overseas I prefer to send money instead of buying something and posting it.
Reminds me of my luggage. I flew to Hawaii but my bag went to Australia....and it went for free :) Postage has gotten expensive.

ReplyDeletemeine eBay-Zeit ist schon lange vorbei. Ich wußte gar nicht, dass sich das Verkaufen dort überhaupt noch lohnt. Eine Zeitlang beobachtete ich die Auktionen auch hochpreisiger Artikel und das Meiste wurde wieder und wieder eingestellt.
Aber inzwischen kaufe ich kaum noch Neues und versuche eher, meinen Bestand immer weiter zu verkleinern. Denn zu viel Besitz an Dingen belastet uns mittlerweile.
Ich wünsche Dir jedenfalls viel Erfolg bei eBay!

Did I mention that our tickets to "The Ring Cycle" at Bayreuth, Germany, were sent from Bayreuth in early January for performances in July/August via registered mail and the US Postal system lost them? Our futile attempts to try and track them down elicited the same response each time, "They are in transit." I was ready to "go postal" on these people. Luckily, the Box Office at the Festspiele House replaced our tickets when we arrived for the performances. They were truly wonderful. The original tickets never arrived. I will never trust anything to the US Postal Service that needs to arrive safely. Our tax payer money at work. What a joke!!
