Once in a while we live through something that is NOT working out well.
As our refrigerator suddenly 'died' we had to find a new one.
There was a repair in June but now after having it for 16 years it was gone...
The search was mainly for finding one that would fit inside the opening in our kitchen!
On line search is great and as it turned out we could even get it through the local Home Depot.
So on October 10, husband Pieter did place the order and paid for it.
At the time, I was still working at our local OFTC (Oconee Fall Line Technical College) as a tutor and away from home.
Pieter was very much in favor for being able to pay a fee of $ 20.00 for having the old one hauled off by the same people that would deliver the new one.
So here comes the new one...
When they delivered it, the doors from the living room and kitchen had to be removed in order to have it passed through the opening.
Even after taking off the two halves of the refrigerator's French doors!
Even after taking off the two halves of the refrigerator's French doors!
They did build it up again, once inside the kitchen.
Pieter happily gave them a tip for all the heavy work and for hauling off the old one, then they left.
Poor husband Pieter had not yet seen that the doors were hung wrong!
When I looked at our new addition, I noticed that the French doors were not evenly in the center.
Wider gap towards the bottom...
Look at the gap between the freezer drawer and the left half of those French doors!
Also the top was quite a difference!
When Pieter went to the local Home Depot to the area where a gentleman had his desk for kitchen sales, he got kind of bullied and sent off with the excuse that his 'complaint' was not valid since the warranty of 30 days from delivery had expired.
WHAT?!
Poor Pieter did not know that I'd replied to the review request right away and that I also got screenshots.
So I stepped in and showed this not so friendly person, a screenshot on my MacBook where he could read my on line review from November 2nd.
Well within the 30 days...
He started typing on his computer, sending info to the head of sales... telling us that 'she' would give us a call on Monday, this was on Friday afternoon.
I asked if I could have her phone number so we could put that in our iPhone to know who's calling.
We get so many Robocalls that we don't answer.
So he handed me her business card on which also was her email address.
I did compose an email, with all the photos etc.
Never received a call, neither a reply to my email.
Pieter went back to the store again and met a very friendly and courteous lady whom we know.
Her sisters are dear friends and we went to the wedding of her niece.
She stepped in and within days, the delivery people stopped by to FINALLY take care of this problem.
On December 11, after two months of staring at those gaps, it finally got resolved!
When I came home that day from tutoring at the OFTC, I was quite happy.
So what did we learn?
The courtesy of ONE kind employee can solve problems fast and efficient!
Liebe Mariette,
ReplyDeleteherzlichen Dank für deinen interessanten Post.
Sonnige Grüße
Elisabeth
Liebe Elisabeth,
DeleteSchade das du eigentlich nie den Post gelesen hast...
Liebe Grüße,
Mariette
Nice refrigerator Mariette. Glad you got the problem solved. The company should keep the customers happy even if after 30 days, as they never know you might come back and buy something else or tell your friends about their "good service". As it was I'm sure you wouldn't recommend them.
ReplyDeleteDearest Sami,
DeleteBut it wasn't even after those 30 days... of which we had even written proof.
It always depends on the input of a courteous person and if they hire some bad lemons, that's what the customer gets.
Hugs,
Mariette
It's unfortunate that you and your husband Pieter had to go through all that. Sometimes for the same issue, you get different results depending on a person you deal with. I'm glad the issue with the doors was resolved eventually :-)
ReplyDeleteDearest Tamago,
DeleteYes, it is unfortunately that not all employees behave according to the high(est) courtesy towards their customers. Sad for the company and even more disturbing for the customer having to deal with such issue.
Oh, we both were so happy that after two months, it got resolved!
Hugs and happy spring!
Mariette
BRAVA!!!
ReplyDeleteDearest Helen,
DeleteThank you, it feels great after all the hassle!
Hugs,
Mariette
It was awkward !!
ReplyDeleteDearest Anne,
DeleteIt sure was but not giving up pays off!
Hugs,
Mariette
Hello Mariette, Problems with deliveries are a giant headache, and it is almost impossible to get people back to fix things. As they say, the squeaky wheel gets the grease, and you were right to insist on good service.
ReplyDeleteIn Taiwan I have had good luck with service people. Recently my dryer died, and the company came out the next morning to fix it, even though it was the day before Chinese New Year. The total charge for the visit and repair was US $30.
Your new refrigerator looks great now, and I hope it will perform well for a long, long time.

Dearest Jim,
DeleteOh, at times it can be quite an ordeal for getting what you deserve and paid for.
It sounds like you got great courtesy on a day before a big holiday, that is outstanding!
We sure hope that this one will serve us at least as long as the previous one did.
Hugs,
Mariette
We will be purchasing a refrigerator in not so distant future and the french doors is something I want. Are you happy with the freezer section on bottom and how do you like it overall. We will be purchasing from Best Buy since they are so good at delivery and making sure everything is correct before they leave. Steve is very picky and he only buys from best buy now. Terrible to have to have people back in to make something right like this. Good they did.
ReplyDeleteDearest Betsy,
DeleteThis is already a replacement for a previous one with freezer section in the bottom part. We loved that and it had a one door top, that swung wide open to the right. No longer available and this was after all the only one that would fit inside the opening of our kitchen cabinets. The two door works fine and the bottom drawer is so much improved and rolls so light. The only thing that we did not opt for but came like this, was that this entire refrigerator/freezer is a lot deeper than our previous one. We don't need that much space actually... but still works great! We keep an old one downstairs in the pantry, half freezer, half refrigerator French doors too but a lot smaller. And freezer from top to bottom on left side. In our laundry room I keep a freezer chest for bread and larger items. Even at times I place my laundry basket inside with folded iron-dry goods to be ironed. IF we go on a trip or so and I have no time for doing it all. That works great and never is wrinkled, easy to iron in a breeze!
Yes, this very one was listed at Best Buy as well but Pieter opted for the hauling off of the old one, for only $ 20.00.
You did not mention if you need to look for a restricted space opening, like we had. Otherwise you are more free in selecting what you want.
Hugs,
Mariette
Phew! Lots of hassles you have gone through! Hope everything is working well now.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend.
XOXO
Dearest Krishna,
DeleteYes in the end, after a long time of two months... things worked out perfect and we're very pleased with it.
Happy weekend to you and hugs,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette,
ReplyDeletesometimes it really is annoying, when you buy a new thing, that it is not working or standing the right way. 2 Months to get the doors close propperly, a long time.
But your words at the end are correct:The courtesy of ONE kind employee can solve problems fast and efficient!
Glad you can be happy with the new refrigerator now! Hope, you never will have any probems with it ;O)
Wishing you a lovely weekend,
Love and hugs, Claudia xo
Dearest Claudia,
DeleteThings like that always come at a time when you don't need it. We had all come together. The airconditioning quit working, we had men come and go for renovating our bathroom and on top of all, the refrigerator broke down. You don't realize how much you MISS a working refrigerator when you have to run down and up the stairs for everything to get it from the refrigerator in the pantry! Impossible to do...
But it worked out and so happy with it. Pieter also was very sick at the time, bronchitis, mild pneumonia... and I still had to work at the Technical College!
Happy weekend and hugs,
Mariette
Hallo Mariette, erg vervelend als er iets aan mankeert en het zo'n gedoe is om het goed te krijgen.
ReplyDeleteVerder staat de koelkast er perfect tussen.
Fijn weekend, lieve groet
Beste Willy,
DeleteJa, uiteindelijk was het perfect. We wilden wit, hij paste in de opening en is nu perfect geplaatst!
Ook een fijn weekend, ik stuur wat zonneschijn mee en liefs,
Mariette
Patience can find out someone who will understand problems.
ReplyDeleteDearest RTC.,
DeleteIn this case it sure worked out!
Hugs,
Mariette
