Such visits across the Atlantic were always very hectic for my Pieter!
They used his time for having him do several Seminars at their Mushroom farms in the area.
That is typical for the USA, using huge billboards and welcoming the staff members from Camsco Mushroom Co (then Campbell Soup's Mushroom Division).
Pieter standing next to it makes him dwarf...
Michigan
Indeed the Great Lake State.
Whenever you were on such a job, you had to cover a huge distance, either by flight and/or lots by driving!
Delaware, The First State...
Being at the Napoleon Ohio Research Laboratory, Pieter also visited the Rotary Club's meeting!
They even had him published in the local newspaper.
Here Pieter is seen checking out the former Blue Mountain mushrooms farm in Pennsylvania...
Carrying the famous flash light for having pure white light inside the often dark mushroom growing rooms.
Analyzing problems...
This was a typical American Double, rather high rooms with two layers for standing/walking/harvesting.

Liebe Elisabeth,
DeleteVielen Dank!
Alles Liebe,

That billboard is huge! It's very welcoming :-) I enjoyed seeing your husband Pieter with all the state signs. That's a huge distance to cover indeed.
ReplyDeleteStanding to work around mushrooms must make it easier.
Have a wonderful day, Mariette xo
Dearest Tamago,
DeleteYes, it is not for nothing that Pieter did accumulate his 1,500,000 miles in the air and many on the road. The USA and Canada, as well as Australia where Campbell also had a farm, is vast.
Oh, such a farm was quite an improvement from stooping down to the floor inside caves. Also the top section could be worked with the catwalk as it is called. Funny word...
Hugs,
Mariette
Hello Mariette, I remember on long automobile trips, the excitement at seeing each sign welcoming you to another state, then on the return trip, the comfort and hominess of viewing the Welcome to Ohio sign. You and Pieter have sure seen lots of these signs!
ReplyDelete--Jim
Dearest Jim,
DeleteYes, you as well as we, understand that feeling of 'hominess' when returning from abroad!

Dearest Dimi,
DeleteYep, and above all, not as a tourist for sight seeing but just to do training in a language other than your mother-tongue. But we always enjoyed being some place else and meeting so many great people!
A tourist never gets such interaction.
