Here I would love to share with you our travels and adventures as international mushroom consultants. MEMOIRS about husband Pieter Vedder, who was a SCIENTIFIC PIONEER in Commercial Mushroom Cultivation Education. His practical handbook is in 9 languages and is called the MUSHROOM BIBLE: https://mariettesbacktobasics.blogspot.com/2020/08/modern-mushroom-growing-2020-harvesting.html
Dearest Victor, Thank you and yes all butterflies are delicate creatures. It is a good sign if they visit your garden often, meaning you planted the right flowers for them to indulge in. We have planted all sorts of shrubs and plants that do attract butterflies and hummingbirds. Hugs, Mariette
Dear Mariette - love the short video of your Eastern Tiger Swallowtail. We have Swallowtails here too, but they are slightly different to yours. The Swallowtails here are a sub-species named Papilio machaon britannicus. They are quite rare and thrive mostly in the Norfolk and Suffolk areas of the country.
Dearest Rosemary, Thank you, they are such happy critters in our garden; we gladly welcome them with their favorite nectar producing shrubs. Glad you have the quite rare sub-species. In a previous post almost ten years ago I showed the Giant Swallow Tail, Papilio cresphontes Cramer. Added that link now below post. Hugs, Mariette
Hello Mariette, Obviously you and Pieter are creating the right kind of environment when the state butterfly comes visiting. I just reviewed the lists of state symbols for both Georgia and Ohio (Georgia seems to have a lot more!), and it is heartening that there is so much of interest around us that typifies our areas, and that there are people who care enough to declare state butterflies and state reptiles! --Jim
Dearest Jim, It sure looks like our environment is perfect as we tried hard to create a natural habitat for all these critters. The State butterfly seems to be happy here and so are others. Ohio is a different climate zone, no doubt that has a big impact. Yes, it is great that people have worked it all out. Let's hope it is also being taught at schools and thus passed on to the children. Hugs, Mariette
I was after a swallowtail butterfly yesterday, with my camera in the garden, but as we had some wind, it just flew from one bush to another without staying long enough!!! I always enjoy looking at butterflies on our flower bushes. I did not know it is Georgia state butterfly! We also have its 'brother' the Machaon visiting our garden, but not as often as this one. Many hugs to you, dearest Mariette!!!
Dearest Marie-Anne, Yes, capturing them well is always tricky! But maybe one day you will be lucky for doing just that. They are such beautiful little critters! Hugs, Mariette
Dearest Katie Isabella, Sorry you have not found the peace, nor time for watching butterflies. Hope you still will be able to do so before the fall is arriving. Hugs, Mariette
Wunderschön der Tiger Schwalbenschwanz... schön, das du ihn im Garten hast Mariette und wunderbar, das du das Video gemacht hast. Danke. Viele liebe Grüsse zu dir. Viola

Goosness, things have been so rushed for me these past months I have yet to see any butterflies at all. Beautiful, Mariette.
