Here I would love to share with you our travels and adventures as international mushroom consultants. MEMOIRS about husband Pieter Vedder, who was a SCIENTIFIC PIONEER in Commercial Mushroom Cultivation Education. His practical handbook is in 9 languages and is called the MUSHROOM BIBLE: https://mariettesbacktobasics.blogspot.com/2020/08/modern-mushroom-growing-2020-harvesting.html
We have many controlled burns in Oregon … necessary I know but the smoke is difficult at times. And of course now, forest fires are the huge problem. The air quality in Bend this morning was ‘dangerous.’
Dearest Helen, Forest fires are awful and people always ought to be careful. Here there is so much rain that it overall never has been a problem. Hugs, Mariette
Hello Mariette, You must live pretty far out in order for it to be legal to burn brush like that. I remember when I was small it was legal to burn leaves in many areas, but now that practice (in most places around Cleveland, Ohio, anyway) is strictly forbidden. Some people have chippers for those larger branches, but the trunks must still pose a problem. I would donate them to my old high school, which burns wood (in an enclosed evaporator) to make maple syrup. --Jim
Dearest Jim, No, we don't live far out, just outside the city limits in a subdivision. Our State Law is still such that if you heed the space, time, attendance and reasonable precautions, you are good. Sure, around a big city and probably less rainfall, it is a different thing. Trunks we most often have just left to decay naturally. Only in our front lawn have we used the service of a stump grinder. Hugs, Mariette
Querida Antónia, Sí, quemar esas malezas secas era una buena manera de deshacerse de ellas. En muchos estados deberían estar cortando la maleza para evitar incendios forestales reales. Abrazos, Mariette
Dearest Christina, You figured that out as you yourself are a go-getter and put a lot of passion into creating something the way you want it to look! Hugs, Mariette

Controlled burning is the best way to get rid of a potential fire hazard. Pieter did a grand job..
ReplyDeleteDearest Grace,
DeleteYes, Pieter knew what he was doing and also waiting for the right weather.

Mariette
Al eliminar la maleza, se evitan los temibles incendios...Se nota que Pieter es buen previsor.

These are jobs that require a lot of care and attention, but you can do it better than anyone else, I'm sure.

Nice to watch over the years from the video what has been done before.
ReplyDeleteDearest Anne,
DeleteFor us it also is nice to look back at how it was and what needed to be done.
