On Saturday, April 17, 1993 we could hear a male Indigo Bunting flying against the window...
So I went to pick him up and hold him in my hands till he would be fine for flying off again.
Sorry for the poor quality photo...

Have you ever seen these beautiful male Indigo Buntings in your garden?
Did he survive the crash with the window? Beautiful bird.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Dearest Victor,
DeleteIn my second line I already mention till he would be fine for flying off. He's standing on his feet, in my hand and soon he did fly off.
Such a beauty indeed.
Hugs,
Mariette
Abrazos,
Mariette
I've heard of these birds before, Mariette, but have never seen one up close and personal. What a beauty!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Dearest Martha Jane,
DeleteOh, we watched them at our feeders but this was so very special and luckily it all went well for him.
Hugs,
Mariette
Hello Mariette, Those buntings can indeed be jewel-like birds. In fact, that is their problem, because many are caught to keep in cages, so some are threatened in the wild. Even in Taiwan I have seen Painted Buntings kept in cages in front of stores. Kudos to you for saving that beautiful specimen. (Of course, I am sure the you would save any animal that you could, regardless of spectacular plumage!)
ReplyDelete--Jim
Dearest Jim,
DeleteWe both know what you are talking about as we saw the very same in Indonesia. Sad, for depriving them of their freedom. We have saved once a duckling that got pecked at by her own mama and we raised her to maturity... Not easy but oh so rewarding.
Hugs,
Mariette
Liefs,
Mariette
Oh, I hope it survived.
ReplyDeleteDearest Anne,
DeleteIt sure did, it is already standing on its feet and soon it flew off...
Hugs,
Mariette
He was beautiful! I've never seen one, I'm not sure our region has any. How special to hold one, even just for a short time. :-)
ReplyDeleteDearest Kim,
DeleteOh, this was such an unreal moment! They're supposed to be just in your region, as the northern line of territory. Hoping you ever get to see one too!
Hugs,
Mariette
What a nice looking bird, never seen one before
ReplyDeleteDearest Jo-Anne,
DeleteOh this sure is an exotic looking bird. You have several in Australia that we don't ever get to see here. That is normal.
Hugs,
Mariette
A bird caregiver … of course you are💙
ReplyDeleteDearest Helen,
DeleteWhenever we can and whenever they let us!💙
Hugs,
Mariette
You were so fortunate to actually hold one Mariette.
ReplyDeleteI must say the one I managed to photograph on the sunflower was singing a beautiful tune - and it’s mate (?) was replying which made it even more special for me.
Fondly, Mary
Dearest Mary,
DeleteOh, this sure was a once in a lifetime experience! Unreal and luckily Pieter grabbed his camera in time for capturing it before he flew off. He already stood in my hand...
You all have been very lucky to for seeing and hearing them!
Hugs,
Mariette
wow!!
Mariette
Pretty bird, I've never seen one.
ReplyDeleteDearest Sami,
DeleteWell, this looks like an exotic bird that belongs to our region. You got so many already 'down under'...😉
Hugs,
Mariette
I think the picture is fine…beautiful bird and no I have not seen one in my garden.
ReplyDeleteDearest Janey,
DeleteThank you, it was taken in a rush and we're so lucky for having this.

Mariette
What an exquisite colour this lovely small bird is Mariette, amazing that you can hold him in your hand ✨
ReplyDeleteDearest Grace,
DeleteThe sun's reflection make his color indeed exquisite!
Feeling grateful for having had this beauty standing inside my hand.
