Already during our very first month of living in Georgia, USA we got to meet snakes.

Yikes. I remember my dad telling me when he was a boy, riding on the tractor with his dad in eastern Tennessee, they ran over a very large Cooperhead snake and one end of it, wrapped around my dad's neck. Totally freaked him out and from then on, he hated snakes.
ReplyDeleteWe have rattlesnakes here - mostly they are timid. Even though I am leery of them I always try to show them some respect.
Dearest Debby,
DeleteSo far we never had any negative encounter with snakes.
Both of us are not afraid of snakes but we sure do respect them!
Hugs,
Mariette
Wow ... what courage. I would not touch them.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Dearest Victor,
DeleteSo what, this was DEAD!
Hugs,
Mariette
Oh, liebe Mariette,
Mariette
Copperheads are so deadly! I can't believe Pieter was actually holding one by the tail, Mariette. We have those snakes in our woods, and are always careful when walking in the warm weather.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Dearest Martha Jane,
DeleteCopperheads are not as deadly as e.g. rattlesnakes but they sure are venomous.
It was DEAD, look at the blood on the left in the picture.
Snakes usually don't attack people but we ought to respect them.
Hugs,
Mariette
Yikes, scary! I don't mind snakes, but we don't have dangerous ones in our region. I thought Pieter was either very brave or very foolish until I read your reply that the snake was dead. (Okay, poor snake.)
ReplyDeleteDearest Kim,
DeleteThis was our only closeup encounter with a Copperhead and we've seen one literally flattened by a car, near our mail box. We just got back from our bike ride...
They actually are pretty critters but dangerous when being provoked.
Hugs,
Mariette
Hello Mariette, There used to be lots of rattlesnakes in Ohio but now there are mostly benign snakes. (There actually is a Rattlesnake Island in Lake Erie, that is very close to the Johnson's Island we discussed recently that has the Confederate cemetery.) My brother and I used to keep pet snakes that we caught, and once one of them gave birth to many baby snakes--they were very cute!
ReplyDelete--Jim
Dearest Jim,
DeleteBoth of us have never encountered a rattlesnake. Lots of benign ones but they don't bother us. Interesting about Rattlesnake Island in Lake Erie. Guess they have no enemies there... Wish I could have seen those baby snakes and no doubt they were cute!
In Florida we did touch snakes and they are not at all slick or whatever; very nice to the touch.
Hugs,
Mariette
They are prevalent here in our area and we are very afraid of them - the most dangerous venomous snake in the southeast. Working in the garden - when I'm able - is always a time to be looking out to the copperheads, especially in the ivy and woodpile!
ReplyDeleteDearest Mary,
DeleteThis Copperhead sure is one to be respected!
It is very attractive for snakes to hide in a woodpile or in some ground cover...
Hugs,
Mariette
Is it a dangerous snake?
ReplyDeleteDearest Anne,
DeleteYes, this one is venomous and its bite can be deadly.
Hugs,
Mariette
Per fortuna che era un serpente morto.Ciaoooooo
ReplyDeleteCara Olga,
DeleteD'avvero era già morte!
Abbracci,
Mariette
Abrazos,
Mariette
Was the snake alive when he was holding it? I am so glad we don't have any copperheads here in Arizona. As it is, we run into too many rattlesnakes while hiking.
ReplyDeleteDearest Heidi,
DeleteNo, the snake was as dead as it could be...
We never have encountered a rattle snake yet and this was one out of two copperheads we have seen; both dead.
Hugs,
Mariette
I don't like snakes very much, but I understand their role in nature.
ReplyDeletexoxo
Coisas de Feltro
Dearest Christina,
DeleteThey do catch a lot of rodents... Each critter has its role in nature and we ought to respect that.
Hugs,
Mariette
