Just before going to bed after making Tiramisu dessert...
Juvenile water snake ←click link for 36 second video
With my iPhone I captured the above video and this photo.
Not my hand! The one our kitties brought me appeared to be a juvenile Nerodia sipedon (Northern Water Snake) click for more info
Before coming to bed (not wanting to wake up my Pieter for showing him my 'early' Birthday gift, I put it on the retainer wall next to our driveway. Presuming that it was DEAD.
At breakfast time it was GONE... so they play dead when being handled!
Smart juvenile.
You got a good gift with surprise, joy and a little fear. The snake also got a good chance to enjoy air-conditioner in the winter.
ReplyDeleteDearest RTC,
DeleteThat was a special kitty gift surprise. No fear we don't have...😉
The snake was not for long inside the house and it vanished from the retainer wall.
Hugs,
Mariette
As an Australian, I am shocked to see a snake in the house! But I looked it up and found that this one is not venomous, thankfully. We used to have a cat who brought small venomous snakes inside the house, which caused me quite some consternation! Your little snake must have been happy to get away and thankful to escape injury on its adventure.
ReplyDeleteDearest Patricia,
DeleteNo, I was 'only' surprised, not shocked. This was indeed a 'good' snake and only a juvenile. It seems like it got away as I never found it for showing to my Pieter.
Hugs,
Mariette
Happy Birthday, Mariette. Wishing you happiness, good health and whatever you desire always. But not snakes ... no, not snakes.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Dearest Victor,
DeleteThank you and no, I never asked for any snakes but that's what kitties think we like...😜
Hugs,
Mariette
Happy Birthday this very day Mariette!!!! And possibly your young greeter will return for cake!
ReplyDeleteDearest Katie Isabella,
DeleteThank you very much and no doubt there will be some delicious dessert!
Hugs,
Mariette
You are a lot braver than I am!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Mariette!
Dearest Martha Jane,
DeleteNot brave but just common sense. We grew up playing in the fields between the veggies and our Parents showed us nature in its fullest form. Pieter the same, his Parents were market gardeners as well. So we love and also respect nature.
Thank you for the Birthday wishes!
Hugs,
Mariette
Eek snakes and spiders freak me out! I would have never picked that up! Hope you had a wonderful birthday .
ReplyDeleteDearest Janey,
DeleteHaha, it was a nice surprise and I had to pick it up and also wanted to know what I had, so I filmed and photographed it one–handed.
The Birthday just started...
Hugs,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette,
ReplyDeleteI know snakes are good for the garden, but they still freak me out. Thankfully our kitties are all indoors 24/7.
A very happy birthday to you. Celebrate well!
As we get older we get to celebrate longer, so here's to all those Unbirthdays. May they all be happy!
Dearest Suzi,
DeleteOur kitties are indoors in winter and rainy weather... They KNOW how to lounge on top of a down duvet covered in cotton flannel.
Thank you for the Birthday wishes.
Hugs,
Mariette
Huh, what a surprise! Happy Birthday;-)
ReplyDeleteDearest Anne,
DeleteThat sure was a surprise!
Thank you and we enjoy our sunshine.
Hugs,
Mariette
Also du selber hast ja auch Geburtstag in Februar... Alles Gute.
Lieber Gruß,
Mariette
Dear Mariette - I am pleased that the sweet little snake was simply playing dead and went happily on its way following your release.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to you - I do hope you are enjoying a really lovely and happy day - hopefully with some special treats along with the Tiramisu that you were busy making.
Dearest Rosemary,
DeleteYes, that snake got its freedom back.
Thank you for the Birthday wishes and we have come to an end of a lovely 10–day vacation in Florida. The Tiramisu was not made for this Birthday 😏
Hugs,
Mariette
Such a thoughtful birthday gift! LOL. Happy birthday!
ReplyDeleteDearest Kim,
DeleteOh sure, that was very thoughtful from five year old kitties! They must have thought it would be a 'MUST HAVE' item for their Mommy... 😏
Hugs,
Mariette
They look like beautiful snakes. Glad they weren't harmed. Snakes have become so rare in my area that I feel somewhat protective of them.
ReplyDeleteDearest Peter,
DeleteThis was aa beauty and I'm not scared of them and if not venomous, why would we want to harm them?
Hugs,
Mariette
Good kitty!
ReplyDeleteDearest Debby,
DeleteOh sure, one of the five siblings did it... don't know who.
Hugs,
Mariette
ReplyDeleteBesos
Abrazos,
Mariette
You are nearing the close of your Birthday ~~ I hope it was a splendid day!!
ReplyDeleteDearest Helen,
DeleteIt sure was!
Hugs,
Mariette
Not a birthday gift I would like but then I am a big baby, or a wuss you decide.........
ReplyDeleteDearest Jo-Anne,
DeleteWell, can't say that I was happy with it but they impressed me!
Hugs,
Mariette
Liebe Mariette,
ReplyDeleteherzlich gratuliere ich Dir nachträglich zu Deinem Geburtstag und wünsche Dir Gesundheit, Glück, Zufriedenheit, Freude... Du hattest bestimmt einen wunderschönen Tag. 🌺🌸🌼😍
Dann schon lieber Spinnen...
Liebe Grüße zu Euch von Traudi.♥
Liebe Traudi,
Mariette
