Here I would love to share with you our travels and adventures as international mushroom consultants. MEMOIRS about husband Pieter Vedder, who was a SCIENTIFIC PIONEER in Commercial Mushroom Cultivation Education. Pieter Found Another Death Cap or Amanita phalloides

Yes, from our own garden once again...
A perfect Death Cap or Amanita phalloides, the alba species and it is recognizable by its bulbous root.
DON'T eat it!
Pieter has its milk on his fingers... he did not lick that off either.
Pieter found this perfect example on October 5, 2021 but through all kinds of other posts, this got never used. But here it is!
Once again, don't attempt to consume this one!
Pieter was wearing his Burberry poloshirt
These images show the bulbous kind of 'egg' very clearly.
Photos from Pieter's Mushroom collection that he used for training.
Again, different stages of maturity
At times they even can appear to be greenish.
Nice combination with the clover leaves.
Again a different shade but all are deadly poisonous and cause organ failure and DEATH.
Never ever eat any of those!

  1. Questa Amanita è molto velenosa,ne ho viste molte nei boschi della val Torre.

    1. Cara Olga,
Sì, li incontri più spesso e sono davvero pericolosi.

  2. It looks innocent like any mushroom we would find in the supermarket. That's the problem if people do not know what they are doing or eating. We sometimes find mushrooms growing wild in our garden. We never eat them. We prefer them when they are in Campbell's cans.

    God bless.

    1. Dearest Victor,
Yes, there are so many look–alike varieties that even we are not sure. It is best to buy them at the supermarket! Yeah the Campbell's mushroom soup is very good. Great thing is they now also make a low sodium version!
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  3. I've seen this type of mushroom in our yard from time to time. No, I'd never eat any mushroom found in the wild without the go-ahead or an expert like you, Mariette.
    Blessings!

    1. Dearest Martha Jane,
Oh, we come across those often. Animals they know, they have that sixth sense but even we at times can't tell some poisonous ones apart from another. This has the bulbous egg as an 'easy' giveaway. But others we even don't dare to consume.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  4. The only way I would eat mushroom that I had gathered is if Pieter were along!

I haven't commented lately because my ipad hasn't been letting me do so. Had to fire up my laptop.

    1. Dearest Janey,
Well even we at times don't know for certain so we always advise to buy mushrooms at the store, as we most often do ourselves.
      Sorry you've had iPad issues.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

Guess you too know them as you always gather and collect mushrooms in the woods.

  7. Yo suelo comer, los que compro en el supermercado, así no hay peligro de ingerir las que sean venenosas.

Yes, it is fascinating to photograph and look at them but not for consumption!
We sure enjoy spring, it is only so short for all the blooms.

  9. I like mushrooms a lot but we only eat those bought at the store. I can't tell them apart and I'm afraid. However, they are so beautiful and delicate and I photograph them whenever I see them in the field.

    1. Dearest Christina,
So do we, unless we know for sure they are edible without ANY risk.
We also love to photograph them and that's the best to do.
      Hugs,
      Mariette
