From Fort Lauderdale we drove the 200 miles north to Orlando on December 13, 1984.
We both were shocked by viewing so many frozen orange trees towards Orlando and north of it as we traveled home.
That was still from the previous year's Christmas Frost.
The view with orange groves... wherever you look!
That is very much Florida's crop.
Of course we had to stop and see them up close...
Our goal was to visit Epcot Center, which we did for the first time ever on Friday, December 14, 1984.
Of course, since then we went there numerous times with family!
We had placed our Mauzie girl in a kennel.
Near the entrance before you enter, Pieter with this iconic Epcot building.
And me... Our Rollei camera back then was not the BEST we had...
In–between attractions you walked through a beautiful tended botanical garden.
Such a joy to be there!
Gardens and waterfalls and on and on...
One never grows tired of it, even after numerous visits!
And next day, on Saturday, December 15 we drove home again with our Mauzie girl.
A stop about half way...
We had our 1st American car a Buick Century 4–door Sedan
Had to capture this sign; Mauzie had to read it!
Mauzie was a happy Dachshund!
This is from December 26, 1984 with her new squeaky toy.
Posing with her squeaky toy...
That was her final Christmas as she crossed the rainbow bridge on August 29, 1985.
She lived exactly 2 years with us in the USA and has seen quite a number of states and she flew often with us.

Another wonderful souvenir of past holidays. Thank you Mariette. Mauzie was a beautiful dog.
ReplyDeleteGod bless always.
Dearest Victor,
DeleteYes, a lovely memory of our first vacation!
Mauzie was a pedigree and the daughter from Dutch champion Abbie. A very clever and sweet girl also.
Hugs,
Mariette
Hi, Mariette and Pieter!
ReplyDeleteI've been in Orlando many times, but can you believe that we've never been to the Epcot Center? Those gardens look wonderful! Do they still remain like this?
And your sweet Mauzie was so cute, with her new toy!
Florida stayed in my heart since we've been there and it's a place I hope we can come back to, one day.
I have to say this, Mariette: I love the way you two always save and document everything. I wish Nuno and I had done the same when we got married.
We have pictures from our travels, but that's it. There are so many things we forgot, because we haven't documented it properly... I'm going to follow your example and start saving mementos from our trips.
The 80's are still one of my favorites decades of all times (I was born in 1977). I love how things were simpler, even with all the consumerism. Today things are more complicated and we still have consumerism!
I love the clothes that people wore (almost all of them ;) ), the hairdoos, the oh so elegant clutch purse hands, that women used to wear, the house decor... I still have some things from that era in our home and I love to see pictures of your house, because I find it beautiful and welcoming!
Have a wonderful Sunday!
:)
Dearest Paula Alexandra,
DeleteThank you for your meaningful words here.
Oh, how often we've been to Orlando and its attractions, numerous times.
Yes, they still do tend the gardens like that; a feast for the eye!
Mauzie was a darling, daughter of Dutch champion Abbie, a pedigree girl but above all, very intelligent and sweet.
Back in those years we luckily kept a diary. We never expected it to take decades for finally looking back at it. Always in a hurry, preparing training material for seminars and/or traveling by air. Now, it is about time to look back and enjoy it 'finally', especially for Pieter at his age.
You are clever for doing it now, one day those will be precious memories that you can hold onto, more valuable than anything else.
You are so right about those years being more elegant and stylish in general; clothes, hairstyles.
Big hugs,
Mariette
Aquí en España hay buenas zonas de naranjales. Las heladas le perjudica bastante a esta fruta,

Querida Antónia,

What a precious pup! I've yet to visit Epcot, but have heard nothing but good things about it.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Dearest Martha Jane,
DeleteYes, Mauzie was a sweet girl!
We always enjoyed Epcot, even if it was for the umpth time.

Hi again, Mariette. Can you give me an email address where I can contact you?
DeleteDid email you Veronica.
DeleteFrom Helen in Bend ~~ Carl and I lived in the Orlando area from 1999 to 2005, I worked for Mears Transportation (big yellow busses) and must say after countless visits to WDW, Epcot has remained my favorite.
ReplyDeleteDearest Helen,
DeleteYes, for both of us the very same.
Last we went with Pieter's middle brother and we enjoyed every visit.
Hugs,
Mariette
I am so sorry you tested positive, I am on my way to NC on the 15th of June for one week, a bit leery of flying.
ReplyDeleteDearest Helen,
DeletePieter 'wisely' did not want to fly, so he stayed home.
I was determined to finally get Mom & Dad's items home.
Hoping that next flight will depart with me but I hate the 'forced' waiting time...
This will be my FINAL flight!
Hugs,
Mariette
Never been to Orlando before. Those Orange groves look massive.
ReplyDeleteDearest Haddock,
DeleteSeeing those endless orange groves makes you understand where all the products are coming from.
Hugs,
Mariette
Mariette miłe wspomnienia warto do nich wracać. Dziękuję za odwiedziny. Pozdrawiam serdecznie.
ReplyDeleteNajdroższa Małgorzato,
DeleteDziękuję bardzo za znaczące słowa!
Uściski,
Mariette
I really like this breed of dog. They are very intelligent and friendly but have a very independent personality.
