Haha, husband Pieter asked me one morning (when we did our video WhatsApp call) if I tended to STAY in Limburg as I sounded so enthusiastic and so in love with it all. It is JUNE he said and go back in January!
True, I realized that, but it was like a dream and together with sunshine, I was almost floating...
Come, walk with me:
KUMS SE MEJ SPÄÖLE?
Dialect for: Do you come to play with me?
Everywhere we found such wooden benches for resting.
The town of Sevenum has the DONKEY as its symbol.
Not to be compared with the political symbols in the USA.
Guess this goes ages back, and has to do with agriculture, as you see also below in above photo, in different symbols.
My birth town of Horst had DREUMEL = lint from the flax weavers ages back.
Each town has a different historic name.
And yes, lots of roundabouts in my province of Limburg!
Roads are often shaded by tall trees.
Do you see the bike lane to the right? In red asphalt...
Roads are rather narrow compared to the ones here in the USA!
Scary driving for lots of born Americans.
We walked with some 18-20 elderly.
Including one widower, who always had his Luna–girl with him.
She loved to walk!
Cows staring at us!
You notice the tall grasses.
And there are huge windmills, not yet in working order though as a law–suit is still going on.
This is windpark Greenport Venlo
Special hotel for bats and birds...
Also along the Greenport Bikeway, bat–friendly and sustainable lighting got installed.
Here they are called bat–bunkers.
Again you clearly see the red asphalt for the double bikeway.
Do you notice the special bat–friendly lights?
Bats suffer a lot from blue light, but are hardly bothered by amber light.
So they use amber led lighting and they are only working when someone is biking or walking there.
Walkers welcome on the Krullevaar path...
A sign with the owners of the private parcel of land that opens with a gate, that walkers are requested to close behind them.
Show respect for the animals, the plants and surroundings and keep your dog lined.
I should have wiped the farmer's mouth clean as some leaves attached to the sign...
They had sheep on their property.
That walk was a total of 6.16 km or 3.8 miles.
Hope you enjoyed this short walk in my Province!
Stay tuned for more...

Limburg is lovely and you've captured it beautifully in your photos.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this walk with you in your wonderful home country.
I will be away for a while, Mariette as I have to be in my hometown to inter my dad's ashes in a columbarium. Meanwhile, stay happy and beautiful.
((hugs and blessings))
Dearest Veronica.
DeleteLimburg sure is lovely and especially in June!
Thank you for walking along...
It seems that now it is your turn for dealing with a loved one's ashes; your dear Dad.
May you also find closure and peace.
Big hugs,
Mariette
What a nice place. I like the hotel for bats and birds. In our garden we have a hotel for insects - spiders and other garden insects. Thank you Mariette for sharing your holiday with us.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Dearest Victor,
DeleteThank you and yes it is a lovely place for nature lovers.
If people care for animals and insects, the joy is more wonderful.
Hugs,
Mariette
Liefs,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette,
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely walk in great weather.
Your posts have made me look at my own home and forest with fresh eyes.
Thank you...........*s*
Dearest Suzie,
DeleteOh, so many people woud do anything for finding and than enjoying such freedom in nature!
It is more work but oh so rewarding!
Hugs,
Mariette
Oh, I'd have loved to be walking there too, Mariette! I love the bat bunker, what a marvellous idea. And I'd rather be there in January than in Canada! LOL.
ReplyDeleteDearest Kim,
DeleteThank you and yes, there are some wonderful ideas for bats and birds, especially with the use of amber lights.
The winters have been very mild in recent years but it can also get a lot colder.
Your area is harsher though since it is far more in–land, The Netherlands always has the mild influence of the North Sea.
Hugs,
Mariette
Buon pomeriggio.Olga
ReplyDeleteCara Olga,
DeleteGrazie e altrettanto!
Abbracci,
Mariette

ReplyDeleteDearest Jo-Anne,
DeleteYes it was a lovely walk in beautiful nature!

It is a very beautiful place, very green, it reminds a little of Portugal.

Dearest Christina,
DeleteIt was oh so lush and green and everything in full bloom, wildflowers and in peoples' gardens.
Portugal is for sure not as flat as a pancake, like most of The Netherlands is, except in the south of Limburg.
Hugs,
Mariette
Dear Mariette, I enjoyed this walk with you in your lovely area! Thanks for sharing! The bats and bird houses are so very special and the lighting as well! I am sure you have had a very nice time in your home town with family and friends!
ReplyDeleteMany hugs, Marie-Anne
Dearest Marie-Anne,
DeleteYes, this was a very special walk on which I loved to take my readers all along.
Humankind can do so much for wildlife and this shows us all how to protect them.
This final time spent in my birth region will stay with me forever... and so does the wonderful memory with family and friends!
Hugs,
Mariette
I most certainly did. Thank you for taking us along.
ReplyDeleteDearest Janey,
DeleteThank you and glad you enjoyed this walk in a country where you once lived...
Hugs,
Mariette
Lovely place!
ReplyDeleteDearest Anne,
DeleteYes, lovely natural surroundings!
Hugs,
Mariette
Thanks for taking me along on this walk, Mariette! Beautiful countryside. I've never heard of a hotel for bats. That's wonderful!
ReplyDeleteDearest Peter,
DeleteYou're quite welcome as you always treat us with dessert views and climbing adventures.
My province, the part I was born is as flat as a pancake.
That bat and birds hotel is fabulous, as is the special amber lighting.
Hugs,
Mariette
