On May 16, did find this perfect and rather large Marasmius sp. on our lawn when I went early morning to feed the birds.
Such a perfect one!
Holding my finger next to this Marasmius sp. so you get an idea about its size.

Abrazos,
Mariette
Goodness, it's huge! So delicate looking and intricate!
ReplyDeleteDearest Kim,
DeleteIt is not big enough for a full meal but so beautiful.
You had one in your post on July 19, 2021 'Parasols'
Hugs,
Mariette
We are fungi aficionados too!
ReplyDeleteDearest Eastside Cats,
DeleteWell, we both made a living with edible fungi but this is just something to admire in our back yard!
Hugs,
Mariette
Mariette, that is rather tiny so it is great you spotted it before stepping on it. It looks like a parasol. Lynn and Precious XX
ReplyDeleteDearest Lynn and Precious,
DeleteSo true as you easily get them underfoot...
This was a larger than usual beauty!
Hugs,
Mariette
How perfectly round it is, Mariette. It looks like a fairy flower - so delicate. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteDearest Martha Jane,
DeleteIt is an incredible beauty and those pleats look like being permanently pressed.
Hugs,
Mariette
Yes, that flower is purrfection! I have never heard of Marasmius before. I'm sure this discovery made your day. Thanks for the Canada Day wishes.
ReplyDeleteDearest Wendy,
DeleteIt is not a flower but a wild mushroom that appears every year on our lawn.
Never found one this perfect though.
Hope you had a lovely day.
Hugs,
Mariette
Wow they do look so perfect, I don't think I have ever seen one before
ReplyDeleteDearest Jo–Anne,
DeleteNo idea if they are also growing in Australia...
Hugs,
Mariette
I've always thought fungus was so strange looking, and be careful, sometimes they are poisonous.
ReplyDeleteWishing you pleasant July days, Mariiette. : )
Dearest Sheri,
DeleteFungus is very interesting looking and both of us knew a little bit about mushrooms 😏
Happy 4th of July to you as well!
Hugs,
Mariette
That is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteDearest Terry,
DeleteIf one talks about perfection, this is such a rare example.
Hugs,
Mariette
Mariette
Hello Mariette, Such a remarkable specimen--it seems sent to you as a heavenly mycological gift from Pieter. I am sorry that he is not present to enjoy it with you. But you have shared this treasure with your readers. Nature always repays respect and close inspection.
ReplyDelete--Jim
Dearest Jim,
DeleteYour words are meaningful and indeed, I've never ever seen such a perfect one. Earlier observations were always tiny, shriveled ones that struggled for their existence.
Hugs,
Mariette
Beautiful. I have never seen these. XO
ReplyDeleteDearest Pilch92,
DeleteWell, you have to kind of think 'macro' in order to detect them.
We've had them every year and they come back!
Hugs,
Mariette
Mariette, how cool is this ‼️this mushroom almost looks like paper, like a cupcake holder. thanx
ReplyDeletefor sharing ‼️💚 laura
Dearest Laura,
DeleteYes, this perfect mushroom looks like pleated paper.

That is beautiful Mariette...and I learned lots too
ReplyDeleteHugs Cecilia
Dearest Cecilia,
DeleteThank you and indeed this has been the most perfect looking one I've ever encountered.
You no doubt have them too on your lawn or on decaying wood somewhere.
Hugs,
Mariette
The mushroom has a really beautiful cap.
ReplyDeleteDearest Anne,
DeleteYes, it is a picture perfect one!
Hugs,
Mariette
Thank you for finding the error on my blog. Sometimes, I type fast and if spell check doesn't catch my error, then I hit publish. It was late at night. I am going to fix it right now. I hope you are doing well and are finding ways to fill the void of the loss of your dear Peter. I am sure you miss him terriably. You are in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteDearest Kelleyn,
DeleteOh, those errors do happen quickly when flying with your fingers over the keyboard!
Had to proof–read Pieter's English book in 1978 and am a fast reader and my eye spots errors real quick. Nevertheless, we still found some little errors in our latest publication after it went into print.
Thanks for your kind words!
Hugs,
Mariette
