Perfect Marasmius sp.

On May 16, did find this perfect and rather large Marasmius sp. on our lawn when I went early morning to feed the birds.
Such a perfect one!
Holding my finger next to this Marasmius sp. so you get an idea about its size.

It is not a flower but a wild mushroom that appears every year on our lawn.
Never found one this perfect though.
Hope you had a lovely day.

    2. Thanks for the info about that most beautiful mushroom.
I read the speech that Peter gave, lo 20 years ago, and his thoughts about America seem to reflect my own. I am not American in the least, but growing up as a neighbour, I can remember far back enough when there was a lot more pride, and belief in their country among its citizens. Peter's speech was very eloquent and heartfelt. Perhaps it takes someone from outside to have maximum appreciation for the great advantages of being an American citizen.
By the way, Canada has close ties with the Netherlands since WWII. Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet Francisca of the Netherlands, Princess of Orange-Nassau, Princess of Lippe-Biesterfeld (born 19 January 1943 in Ottawa, ON) spent her early childhood in Canada during the Second World War. The annual Canadian Tulip Festival in Ottawa emerged from gifts of thousands of tulip bulbs from the Dutch royal family. Margriet continues to make regular visits to Canada, strengthening ties between Canada and the Netherlands. The Dutch also gifted us with swans, who progeny still float along our Rideau River in summer, being housed in the winter months.
My mother would often tell me this story, and over the years I have attended the Tulip Festival numerous times. Such beautiful memories as the tulips and swans will never fade because they still exist.
In any event, I enjoyed reading Peter's speech and reviving my memory of our close ties to The Netherlands. Hugs, Wendy🌷🦢

    3. Dearest Wendy,
It is true that the Dutch Royal family has had very close ties with Canada and those tulips and swans are wonderful gifts that live on in the minds of people.
Wish we had more of that in many countries!
Thank you so much for the words about Pieter's speech; that means a lot to me.

Oh, those errors do happen quickly when flying with your fingers over the keyboard!
Had to proof–read Pieter's English book in 1978 and am a fast reader and my eye spots errors real quick. Nevertheless, we still found some little errors in our latest publication after it went into print.

Oh, don't worry about the name, we both have been used to far worse misspelled versions, such as Peiter...
The kitties are calm and they were not nervous last night, guess they understand what is going on as they've lived through it for 17 times by now.

    1. Dearest Ingrid,
First of all this is NOT a shroom or magic mushroom (with psilocybin that can cause hallucinations).
Pieter and I never ever wrote about any shroom or magic mushroom. Only about the commercial mushroom. This Marasmius sp. is also edible but you cannot gather enough for a meal. But still, it is one of those little wonders in the wild mushroom world.
Indeed, it resembles more of a paper parasol!
