{25-Year Anniversary of our Church Wedding in Chile quietly passed by}

With my Mom's death on January 27, a lot of things got pushed into the shadow and that's why the 25 Year Anniversary of our Church Wedding in Chile, on my birthday February 6, quietly passed by...
This is the little Church from Cristo Resucitado de Cuinco, Osorno - Chile with our friend Padre Juan Janssen, a Capuchin Priest, who married us.
Padre Juan is Dutch by birth and Pieter helped his Mission, through several projects.
To the left is the rectory and the house where Padre Juan Janssen lived and where we stayed in February of 1990.
Not everyone does have a Church wedding booklet in Spanish...
Our Madrina Erna Araneda Gomez, and Padrino Jose Canquil Chaipul
The blessing of our wedding rings in the little Church of the south of Chile.
Right after our Church wedding...
Mom being in heaven only 10 days, we did however get a very sweet gift from dear friends Heinz & Maria from Ristorante da Maria  so we enjoyed the above delicious 5-course dinner together!
Both of us feel very blessed for having been united in matrimony together for almost 32 years and having it blessed before God with the Sacrament of the Holy Matrimony as well!

{Mom Lived 11 Days Short of her 66th Wedding Anniversary}

When Mom went to Heaven on January 27th, she was ONLY 11 days short of her 66th Wedding Anniversary on February 7!
This is my Mom, wearing her favorite brocade suit from J.C. Penny Outlet, which she bought with me when visiting us in Georgia.
She also did wear the Majolica pearls, that we gifted her for Saint Nicholas, Dec. 6 1983—she always kept them close to her heart!
I have several pictures of Mom where she is looking very happy!
That's how all our dear friends remember her...

This was on our 42nd trip to The Netherlands... out of 64 total.
We went with Mom to a 40th wedding anniversary Mass where she sang with her choir.

Congratulations anyway dear Mom; you have accomplished so much!
Here on this earth you do have a very proud eldest (alive) daughter.
Thanks for being my Mom for 64 years minus 10 days...
I know for sure that I had the best and the sweetest Mom!

{February 21, 2014 Tornado in our Subdivision}

While we were still in The Netherlands on Friday morning, February 21, there was quite a strong tornado in our subdivision.
We were having dinner with our Goddaughter as I got a message on my iPhone from our cat-sitter, back home in Georgia.
I called her right away and learned about her ordeal that morning as she could not even enter the subdivision... The police had blocked off all entrance roads!
But they graciously let her pass via a different route so our kitties could get fed!!!
This is what we still found 5 days later, after having returned from The Netherlands from Mom & Dad's 65th Wedding Anniversary...
We did drive around our neighborhood for taking some photos...
Of course, most of the chaos had been cleaned up and hauled off already.
Yes, our Winfield Road is mentioned above in the newspaper article from Friday, February 21...
It also had rained excessively, still puddles of water after 5 days!

We are so blessed that our home and garden had no damage at all.
Our 6 felines were all found safe inside by our cat-sitter, once she could get through.
The heavy equipment from the county and the city also caused quite some damage...
We can only imagine how it must have looked right after the tornado came through.
Huge trees snapped off like matches...
 Most has been hauled away...

Sad sight in our neighborhood...
So muddy...
Wet - wet...
No wonder; 4.69 inches or 11.9 cm of rain in the time that we were gone!
How blessed we were for having finished all the water projects in time!
Our home stayed dry so all the back breaking hard work did pay off!

The force with which huge trees got uprooted...

Unreal...
Our entire subdivision in a way still has been blessed; only one injury...

{Mom & Dad's 65th Wedding Anniversary}

As mentioned in my previous post, we did go for a very special reason to The Netherlands, this 64th trip for family and friends.
 It was my dear Parents' 65th  Wedding Anniversary!
My siblings had decorated the front door prior to an official visit by the Mayor.

Here Mom & Dad enjoy a serenade by the elderly choir 'Levensvreugd' or Life's Joy in English.
Mom has been singing with them for some 30 years and Dad joined at a much later time.
Mom filled the void of my Paternal Grandmother's soprano voice...
This photo I took on the day of celebration with the entire family of 51 present.
My husband Pieter is looking on, behind Mom & Dad.
Since this is such a rare occasion, my Parents did receive some Royal Mail...

From the King and Queen of The Netherlands...

Also from the King's Commissioner of the Province of Limburg...

Such an embossed seal is quite impressive!

We all together celebrated this remarkable and very rare milestone of a 65th Wedding Anniversary.
A Blissful Relationship with its usual ups and downs.

Even the day after the celebration with dinner in the restaurant, Mom & Dad had a special Mass at Church to say thanks for God's Blessings for such a long Marriage together.
Heeroom, my Great-Uncle Priest, did bless my Parents' marriage, when he was on leave from his mission in Indonesia.

This photo above and below is taken right after Mass with Mom & Dad.

Funny that Mother and Daughter did wear the same colors...
This would be the VERY LAST TIME with Mom together (alive)!
Both in Royal Blue!
St. Lambertus Church in Horst

Our German Son and family did pay Mom & Dad a visit with a large basket of regional foods from the Eifel area.
Below I show you some Dutch Government statistics about the approx. 7% of marriages that will last 60 years or more, as of 2001.

 Almost 14,000 of the entire population of some 16.7 million reached 60 or more years of marriage.
Over 200 couples reached 70 years or more... so there is still hope from Mom & Dad!
Below you see that it did drop for 2010 to only 6,000 couples that reached 60 or more...
Image is from Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek
Image below is also from page 68 in Pdf from CBS

Very proud of both my Parents!
They do belong to a very rare group of couples that stayed married for 65 years together.
Quite some role models - through thick and thin...
The fruits of a simple lifestyle and hard work together!

{Edible Marzipan Rose | Wedding Anniversary}

It is this time of the year that you want to hibernate and snuggle up warmly with a good read and be lazy. A good read would be the book that husband Pieter finished, about his life and his Parents, Grandparents and above all his daughter Liz. It was daughter Liz who gifted this book for her Daddy's birthday. Writing it, was a labour of love of four months dedication. Searching slides and old photos, scanning them and then composing a story. First writing it on a note bloc, later with fountain pen onto the glossy pages in the big hard cover book. It will become a family treasure. Wish I had such a huge book with stories about my Grandparents and such. So far I have read it half way.
Autumn is a special season for Family time.
However, our Family is far away, living over three continents; Europe (daughter Liz), Asia (daughter Anita) and Australia...
We at times do receive a nice parcel in the mail.
Like the above Edible Marzipan Rose that came from our German 'son' and his family.
Can you believe this traveled over 7,000 km and arrived nearly perfect?
It did not LIVE very long though. Husband Pieter has a sweet tooth and he enjoyed this delicious treat. Glad I got to make this photo before it vanished into his tummy...
Right now another parcel is on its way but it takes forever with the mail nowadays.
We also got some lovely messages from daughter Anita for our Wedding Anniversary.
It was in 2008, that our two German 'sons' and their family did treat us at a special restaurant in Cologne around our Wedding Anniversary. Daughter Anita (3rd from right) was part of that as well. Very fond memories!

Wishing you all a lovely day.

{Our Sedum blooming in the Fall}

Tonight we will have our first frost and maybe the last blossoms will get affected by it. Just wanted to show you our white and pink Sedum as they bloom so nice in our little rock garden. We just collected all sorts of stones, found at our property. Some with fossils and other plain ones. They warned us to be careful for not touching a black widow spider as they live under rocks like those... We never did encounter one though. In general we let all creatures live and roam freely in our garden and wood garden. This rock garden is adjacent to our gazebo, within view from it. Tomorrow I will show you our remarkable blooming Gardenias, photos taken on our 28th Wedding Anniversary day, for those that missed that in my post from 10 November, click {6 Antique & Vintage Italian Angels, Cherubs Putti} and scroll all the way down. Our daughter Anita did such lovely work!
The next post will show the blooming Gardenias in a setting on the newly tiled patio outside our Rose Suite, that Pieter has finished this week. Stay tuned...

{6 Antique & Vintage Italian Angels, Cherubs Putti}

~♥~
Don't miss to read at the very bottom...
From Italy I have 11 different antique and vintage handcarved wooden Angels, Cherubs, Putti. In my previous post {Our Living Room ANGELS - CHERUBS} ←click link. I did show you the ones that we have brought back from our trips. They are permanently displayed in our living room, not only for Christmas. My ANGELS - CHERUBS - PUTTI are the REAL thing, made out of special wood and hand carved in South Tyrol, Italy.
Due to the long winters, with lots of snow in that region, from October till April, they have taken up this ancient art since the 1700s. They use only high quality wood from Linden, Maple and Cendia Pine trees. This Cendia Pine tree, also called Swiss pine or Arolla pine, grows at a high altitude, in the Alps. Wood carvings are expensive and that is because the tree has to be 75 years old before they can start drying it in a natural surrounding for several years, before the actual carving is done.
This is a beautiful painted Cherub head looking to the left with an eye from its back for hanging. It is quite large with 8" width and height. I do have the one that is looking to the right also, so they could be hung as a pair.
Stunning craftsmanship from those artists in South Tyrol, Italy...
The angel wears even a head band.
It is with sadness that they have closed in 2020 and here is an informative video: ANRI. Of time and tradition ←click for video
This angel looks to the right...
Look at those details! Available at my Zen Cart powered on line boutique: Mariette's Back to Basics
