{Our Hallway}

Let me show you the next finished project, inside our home. Husband Pieter, did also change the wooden baseboard in our hallway into a tiled one. These white tiles for the bathrooms, kitchen, veranda and hallway came back with us from Italy in a 40-foot container with all our belongings. Life in Italy was over as we did not build our home in Italy but went back to Georgia/USA. Okay, welcome into our hallway!
From the front door you face the dining room to the left and straight ahead is the living room.
The white ceramic chandelier from Italy you can find below this post in a previous post's link.
Those white tiles are from Italy, we bought them at the time we worked and lived there.
When we did not construct the house in Italy, we did bring everything back to Georgia/USA.
Here you see husband Pieter's work; a tile baseboard after he removed the wooden one.
This is nice glossy and a lot easier for cleaning and it looks better with the tiles in this room.
Turning now back towards the front door, past the dining room door.
You cannot see my French DMC Rose Filet Lace Crocheted Curtains here, due to the glare.
But in the link below this post you can view them. By the way, that is my 3rd most viewed post!
Our French oak coat rack with chest.
Looking all the way to the end of the hallway, where our master bedroom is.
First door is to the staircase, next door is a closet where we keep our winter coats and boots.
Next is the office (you recently saw a post about it) and last door is the guest bedroom (you also got to see that).
Stepping halfway down the hallway you can see the office door to the right and guest bedroom next with the master bedroom straight ahead.
These beautiful Ipomoeas in blue (Pieter's favorite color - which he CAN distinguish very well) are done by my sister Diny Van den Munckhof, in 2004.
The brass plate with peacock was a gift to Pieter when he was still principal at the practical training college in The Netherlands.
Sister Diny's artwork...
Frame is by Irok gallery, our favorite as they do museum quality framing.
Looking back to the closet where we keep our coats and boots and the door to the staircase.
Looking to the right you see a row of  10 hand painted wild mushroom plates by A. Zen Nove, ITALY.
That was a gift from our company in Italy. They had each year a different one painted by this artist in a limited numbered edition of 100. See link below post for more details.
Three Royal Tichelaar Makkum pieces in polychrome.
Made by the The Netherland's oldest company and framed in French oak.
Royal Tichelaar Makkum wall plate in polychrome.
This photo is taken from the door opening of the master bedroom.
To the right you see our bi-fold closet which I did show in a previous post: My closet looks like a neat store - see below post.
the next door is a closet where we keep albums and the vacuum cleaner and such.
A bit more recessed is the door to the guest bathroom, that you recently saw in a post.
Turning towards the master bedroom door.
These hand embroidered wild mushrooms in cross stitch, I made long time ago and they hung in the office of Principal Pieter at his practical training college for mushroom growing.
Looking up to the ceiling where a foldout staircase leads to the attic.
THAT will be another project...
Hope you enjoyed the tour!

{Kind Hearts Are Gardens}

Kind hearts are gardens,
Kind thoughts are roots,
Kind words are blossoms,
Kind deeds are fruits.
American poet 1807-1882
I am hoping to be able to make some Gardenia photos before they wilt.
We have had such rain that I was not able to do so...
Enjoy your day and the blossoms around you!
Yesterday, on June 12 it was Real Feel 47°C or 116.6°F

{Our 2013 Clematis lanuginosa 'Candida'}

Our 2013 Clematis lanuginosa 'Candida', the largest Clematis variety, (availability you find below post) did not yield many blooms for 2013. Below you can find more glorious blooms from earlier years. But let's have a look at this exotic beauty:
Gorgeous and HUGE flowers as usual. They are incredible.
That was it; 3 blooms on May 11 of 2013!
Hard to capture the all white blooms on camera...
The center bloom...
The bottom one where some critter has been eating away at its petal...
We used to have this Clematis lanuginosa 'Candida' up against a trellis under the balcony.
This is 7 years ago and now you can actually see their HUGE size!
2006 showed some very HAPPY blooms.
Gardener Pieter beaming with pride in 1996 when we had one as a perfect vine up against our front porch on the corner of the house. NEVER happened again and we actually lost this one... A very tiny new plant came up that Pieter babied inside the green house, in a pot before planting it next to the tree where it resides now.
Me standing proudly next to them in 1996...
For more photos of this huge beauty see the link below this post.
But we still have these photos as living memory!
Does any of you have this type of Clematis?

{Our Guest Bathroom}

One more project to show you about; and after all, you had not seen Our Guest Bathroom before... Here she comes:
This is the same vanity from Italy as we have in our Master Bathroom. You can find the link below.
We did bring this home with us from Italy in a container, after not building our home there but returning to the U.S.A.
In the mirror you can see the bi-fold closet doors. As said before, this house has numerous build in closets and we love it!
That is the door to the hallway. Behind the high gloss white vanity cabinet from Italy, you see a Swedish IKEA GODMORGON high gloss white cabinet, as it did match perfectly. I keep my Lampe Berger Collection inside for my Zen Cart powered on line Boutique: Mariette's Back to Basics.
On the other wall is also an IKEA GODMORGON high gloss white.
We do have three of these brass with porcelain door knobs.
Two in the master bathroom on each side of the door. Great for hanging your robe and such.
These came from Restoration Hardware in the 1990s and they no longer carry them.
From Home Depot came these Snow White tiles, which Pieter used to create a tile baseboard instead of the wooden one. After we had our master bathroom done; Pieter worked on the guest bathroom and did it himself.
Nice shiny and easy to clean.
At Complete Tile Collection NYC New York they do have a 5-½" high Normandy Baseboard by Vermeere Ceramic Tile Molding. That might have worked too. Their Skirting Baseboard is almost 1" too short for replacing our wooden baseboards. We were restricted to size.
The wall paper is washable too and we don't need to replace that any time soon.
Standing near the hallway door now and looking towards the window.
This bathroom is rather long.
The cotton mats are from Italy.
The vanity has halogen lights; never hot and provide a perfect view with the large beveled mirror.
Now you can see the bi–fold closet doors and the sliding tub doors behind. That's the exact same bathtub that we replaced in our master bathroom with a shower. This works fine; still one tub left in the home!
In front of the tub doors you see a pull chain; that is for the heat lamp above.
To the left you see the double IKEA GODMORGON high gloss white cabinet.
Danish Damixa faucet in white. We used to have the very same in our master bathroom but had to replace it with a chrome Damixa.
Dolomiti is written in the vanity sink... made in Northern Italy.
Here you can see the air-conditioning ceiling register to the left and the exhaust fan with two heating lamps in front of the tub. We have those in all bathrooms and that is such a luxury. You just pull them on and pamper yourself when toweling dry. Not in the summer of course!
We picked up this idea when visiting friends in Australia and had them installed in our home.
Our German 'son' even has them installed in their master bathroom.
If you lived with them, you never want to do without!
To the right you see the other IKEA GODMORGON high gloss white cabinet.
My French Linen Angels you can find below post in link.
Another Danish Damixa faucet in white. The shower head we no longer have in white...
This is the exact same as we used to have in the master bathroom.
Hard to catch on camera and with the flash you get all kind of shine...
A convenient chrome caddy from Tuesday Morning...
Almost impossible to capture my hand made filet lace embroidered angels by daylight...
The same hand crocheted edging around the filet lace embroidered work as in the master bathroom... See link below post.
There you go; photo taken at dark... Angels & Roses!
The same solid oak, painted white indoor shutters as in all rooms except kitchen and veranda.
Tiny brass nails that got painted white and will never tarnish the hand embroidered lace.
You can read more about it from my previous post below...
This toilet with Eco friendly dual flush, we did bring home from Costco in Miami...
The two toilet tissue holders we picked up as an idea at the Grand Hyatt in Atlanta; see previous post about it below.
The toilet tissue stand is from Tuesday Morning.
Ending with this sculptured watercolor by Patsy Gullett... see post about it below.
So what do you think; is this guest bathroom looking okay to you?

{CANDIED ROSE PETALS - Recipe for YOU}

Due to still dark weather and rain... I still cannot make my photos so here is a post with the recipe for the CANDIED ROSE PETALS below:
This is a page I did scan from the book: Christmas with Victoria 1997 and it is still available at Amazon, just click the hyperlink.
The text with this photo on page 137 reads: Petal Crown
To create a small masterpiece, garnish a cake with colorful flowers.
This photo with Candied Rose Petals is from Southern Living February 1998, page 122.
Another idea came from Atlanta Magazine, June 1997...
That's how I got my idea for garnishing the chocolate heart & rose shaped dessert with candied roses.
Took a photo (today, on a dark day...) from my candied roses, see below.
Presented on a Royal Albert Princess Anne handled bon-bon dish.
Now the recipe for you:
CANDIED ROSE PETALS

18 small rose petals (pesticide free from your own garden)
1 cup sifted powdered sugar
1½ teaspoons meringue powder
3 tablespoons water
½ cup superfine sugar

  • Rinse rose petals, and let dry on paper towels.
  • Beat powdered sugar, meringue powder, and 3 tablespoons water at low speed with an electric mixer until blended; beat at high speed 4 to 5 minutes until mixture is fluffy.
  • Brush mixture on all sides of petals; sprinkle with superfine sugar. Let stand on wire racks 24 hours.
Yield: 18 petals
This is rather easy to make!

  • If you don't have the meringue powder, try this recipe:

SUGARED ROSE PETALS:
3 large pesticide free roses
½ cup egg substitute, beaten lightly
½ cup superfine sugar
TO MAKE SUGARED ROSE PETALS:
1. Pull the petals free from 1 rose. Lightly coat each petal on both sides with the egg substitute, using a small paintbrush.
2. Sift a small amount of the sugar over the coated petals, turning them carefully to coat both sides. Set on waxed paper to dry at least 1 hour. Repeat the procedure with the remaining roses, egg substitute, and sugar.
Yield: 1½ cups.

Instead of ROSE PETALS you can also use edible flowers from your own garden such as; NASTURIUMS, SNAP DRAGONS, PANSIES, VIOLETS or DAYLILIES.
Good luck with your version...
Also interesting to try the STRAWBERRY & RED ROSE PETAL WHIPPED CREAM DESSERT; see link with recipe below.

{Our Fragrant Cloud Roses + Update}

Wow; the painters left yesterday around noon after working for about 3 weeks on our exterior! Great quality job they did and you will soon get to see the results. First I need to show you the previous projects. Today I just have a little vase with 3 Fragrant Cloud Roses for you. Not even a great photo, as I took it with my iPhone... Yesterday I did serve candied rose petals (from our garden!) to our 10 dinner guests of the Monday Night Club that we hosted. I had made the evening before baked chocolate hearts and roses and decorated them with marzipan roses and my candied rose petals... A busy day, cleaning and arranging fresh gardenias for the dinner tables. Setting the tables and low and behold I even forgot to take photos. No time actually, as I was cooking and doing it all. My usual help for serving, started her vacation so I did it solo. Feeling satisfied but tired after I got done. One of the ladies, Sarah Jane Smith that came for dinner, did help me serve the main course; very sweet of her.
Hand crocheted doily is done by my sister-in-law Elly.
I just got in a hurry to take this photo before those perfect buds would open up completely...
Today I planned to take more photos inside the home but it is such a dark and HOT day with thunder in the far distance. Wish it would break and change to sunshine again!
LOOK: at 11:45 AM already RealFeel 40°C... It looks like this will not change the coming days.
Let's hope for the best so I can make my photos.

{Our Acer Trees in the Spring}

On May 12, we had as usual a bright blue sky and it made our two Acer trees stand out even more so with their spring leaves. Have a look at our Acer Negundo Kelly's Gold Yellow Box Elder and Acer Rubrum or Red Maple:
To the left, Acer Negundo Kelly's Gold Yellow Box Elder and to the right Acer Rubrum or Red Maple.
That bright green and red does not stay all summer... but in the fall they both look striking again!
Acer Negundo Kelly's Gold - Yellow Box Elder with to the left Robinia pseudo acacia - Black Locust.
The tall one to the left is an oak tree an also the one to the right is another oak tree, the sawtooth oak.
In our climate, trees grow so fast and also very tall!
Don't you love this Acer Negundo Kelly's Gold?!
