Our 2013 Clematis lanuginosa 'Candida', the largest Clematis variety, (availability you find below post) did not yield many blooms for 2013. Below you can find more glorious blooms from earlier years. But let's have a look at this exotic beauty:
Gorgeous and HUGE flowers as usual. They are incredible.
That was it; 3 blooms on May 11 of 2013!
Hard to capture the all white blooms on camera...
The center bloom...
The bottom one where some critter has been eating away at its petal...
We used to have this Clematis lanuginosa 'Candida' up against a trellis under the balcony.
This is 7 years ago and now you can actually see their HUGE size!
2006 showed some very HAPPY blooms.
Gardener Pieter beaming with pride in 1996 when we had one as a perfect vine up against our front porch on the corner of the house. NEVER happened again and we actually lost this one... A very tiny new plant came up that Pieter babied inside the green house, in a pot before planting it next to the tree where it resides now.
Me standing proudly next to them in 1996...
For more photos of this huge beauty see the link below this post.
But we still have these photos as living memory!
Does any of you have this type of Clematis?

it is a lovely plant, even if it didn't bloom too much this year.
ReplyDeleteDearest Theresa,
DeleteIndeed, we both still LOVE this huge clematis no matter how many blooms.
Hugs,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette,
ReplyDeleteOh, your Clematis is really elegant♡♡♡ There must be a good blooming year and not. I loved to see your husband "beaming with pride" in in 1996.
PS> so sorry my confusion leaving comment your last year's post last night. When I went to your site from the comment for me, I was led to that post and didn't realized the date(^^;) Whew, my carelessness never end, my dear friend.
Sending you lots of love and hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako*
Dearest Miyako,
DeleteSure there are good and bad years for blooming more or less... Depending on the weather conditions and how the winter has been etc.
Like humans, a plant is not all the time in 'optima forma' as we call it.
I love that photo very much where husband Pieter indeed beams with pride! And rightly so.
Thanks for your sweet comment that you left on the previous Clematis post. Yes, they are our 'green children'...
Hugs from Georgia to the rising sun,
Mariette
What a gorgeous plant. I love the photos of you and Pieter next to those huge blooms. So beautiful!
ReplyDeleteDearest Olga,
DeleteYes, this is a gorgeous vine and not very well known it seems like! Wish we would have it like in the photos but I treasure those forever.

Liebe Elisabeth,
Lieber Gruss,
Mariette
A lovely variety and one I have never seen, Mariette! I do not have good luck with Clematis, but I keep trying to find just the right spot for one. So good that you have the photos to remember how beautiful it is! Hugs, xo
ReplyDeleteDearest Karen,
DeleteGuess with the huge trees around your property there will be too much shade. Even ours has kind of perished and showed only 3 blooms and by far not as full as last year. You find last year's in link below post. Will have to move it to a better spot.
Hugs,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette,

ReplyDeleteBeste Ria,
Liefs,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette,
ReplyDeleteThe white clematis makes such a pretty show in your garden and the photos of you and Pieter and the blooms are lovely.
At our last house we had a pretty pale pink clematis that was gorgeous over a trellis.
Happy week
Hugs
Carolyn
Dearest Carolyn,
DeleteThanks for your comment and compliment. Oh, that pale pink one we had near the driveway where the lantern post is but we lost it. Want to get that back too.
Clematis are such a beautiful species!
Hugs,
Mariette
Mariette
Hello Dear, The truth is that this flower "climatis candida lanuginosa ', it's beautiful! Must say that is given to you so healthy! Increhible watch it in all its glory in the 1996's, fabulous photographs comparative IT IS a real hobby grow each species of flora, and to know, take care and enjoy! hugs, Rose M
ReplyDeleteDearest RoseMarie,
DeleteIsn't this a beauty and her size is unreal! Indeed, in 1996 it displayed the best blooms EVER. Thanks for your visit and sweet comment.
Hugs,
Mariette
The clematis is beautiful, but nothing compared to the beauty of Mariette! You are an angel, my new found friend. Thank you again and again for your thoughtfulness toward me. Without your help, I would remain very frustrated with my blog feed. Thank you for taking the time and interest to help me resolve the issue. Yes, I'm not following. A devoted follower I'll be!!! ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteDearest Sarah,
DeleteHope you slept well last night! It is a pleasure helping others as I can... Glad you came here to enjoy this beauty with us and thanks for your sweet comment. Also thanks for following.
Enjoy the rest of the week.
Hugs,
Mariette
Liefs,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette,
ReplyDeleteYour white clematis is beautiful. I just love seeing the photos of you and Pieter with them in more abundant years.
I wish I could grow them. They are one of my few unsuccesses with plants. But them up until a few years ago I couldn't grow roses either.
We are having a good year for mountain laurel....last year was so sparse the festival was cancelled.
Enjoy any good weather that comes your way....*s*
Dearest Suzi,
DeleteThanks for liking it too. Ah, mountain laurel we have tried here too but of course lost it. Climatic influences are so tricky with all plants, shrubs and trees. We have to enjoy whatever grows and blooms in abundance once in a while! We got some sunshine today, a heave shower last night.
Hugs,
Mariette
Hi Mariette,
ReplyDeleteThese are absolutely gorgeous, and so big. Lovely pictures
Thank you for stopping by at my blog.
Have a good week.
Dearest Eva,
DeleteThis Clematis variety is stunning! Glad I can share them with my blogger friends world wide as not all will know this one.
Enjoy your remainder of the week and sending you hugs,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette,
ReplyDeleteThis is indeed an amazing variety of Clematis!!! The blooms are HUGE and so very beautiful! And I loved seeing the gorgeous pictures from the past blooms, such great memories...
Sending you hugs from the Alps! :)
Dearest Anna,
DeleteThanks for your lovely comments. Isn't all of life about memories and above all, sharing them with others that makes for double joy.
Hugs from Georgia on a first sunny day!
Mariette
Your clematis is so gorgeous!! They are elegant and exotic at the same time. I love the huge vine from 1996 photos. They would make great decoration for wedding or any happy occasions :-) And you look very pretty next to the flowers!
ReplyDeleteDearest Tamago,
DeleteThese lovely and HUGE Clematis originated in China. Guess in Japan they will have them also. Oh, their show of blooms in 1996 was like a dream! We treasure those photos. Actually they were slides that I came across when scanning. It made me very happy.
Thanks for your sweet compliment. Flowers make me happy.
Hugs,
Mariette
Beautiful flower and people! :-) Lovely memories...
ReplyDeleteDearest Mei,
DeleteThank you for your sweet comment!
Hugs,
Mariette
Dear Mariette, your clematis, looks so beautiful!!It'a an exotic plant!!
ReplyDeleteWe don't have it here!!I realy loved your guest bathroom!!
Hope you have a lovely week!!Hugs!!
Dimi..
Dearest Dimi,
DeleteGlad you loved the guest bathroom and this Clematis. It is exotic looking but it must thrive even better in more temperate zones to the north. We're at the latitude of Tunesia if you compare.
Our week is starting to look lovely and sunny again. But quite hot at 47°C at 11:00 o'clock in the morning...
Hugs to you,
Mariette
Lieve Mariette,
Liefs,
Mariette
