For sure all of us are living with a personal PC, Laptop, Notebook, Tablet, Smartphone or whatever...
When did we all start using this? For us the very first PC we had in 1987 at our office in the previous home in Dublin, Georgia. Humble beginnings...
This was before Internet was even available!
Can we imagine life without?
What a difference from now...!
In our previous home there was carpet all over when it was newly build.
That we can do without, now we only have tiles and solid oak plank floors.
Under the crocheted doily with roses is my humble word processor...
What a change we all have lived through!
Loved those wicker baskets in which my imported papier mâché from Kashmir, India got shipped.
Very nice way of wrapping things for export!
Here the solid oak indoor shutters have not even been stained yet...
Now we got them all painted white in our present home.
Those filet lace embroidered window decorations are hand made by me.
Do you have some PC dinosaur photos as well?

i know i worked with typewriters and various mimeo machines, then computers that were hooked only to company processors and then intercompany email came about. i wish i could remember the days of actually getting internet access. :)
ReplyDeleteDearest Theresa,
DeleteIt is funny if we look back to how corporate computers got used. At the practical training college we already used computers in the 70s but not for internet either.
We all can remember the times before Internet but PCs are still developing so fast.
Hugs,
Mariette
Enjoyed your trip back in the computer days. I never had one until 1906. I guess you would say I still live in the dark ages. I have no other cell phones or tech devices except computer.
ReplyDeleteDearest LV,
DeleteNo doubt you meant 2006! No you certainly don't live in the dark ages as many from your age will not even manage what you do on your computer. It opened a whole new world for you! So happy for you.
Hugs,
Mariette
I didn't even know anyone who had a home computer back in 1987 !!!!
ReplyDeleteDearest Lorraine,
DeleteWell, time is going fast and it only makes us feel 'old' doesn't it?
Such a home computer could do very little compared with the modern versions.
But it sure was a humble beginning!
Hugs,
Mariette
It all seems so long ago, but wasn't it only yesterday that we lived without the internet? Just think.......without it and my Blog and your Blog I would never have met such a charming Néerlandaise.
ReplyDeleteBig bisous, ma chère amie, M-T
Dearest Marie-Thérèse,
DeleteOh this is so true, it seems so long ago... But we never ever can go back to where we were. This is such a global affair now. Like minded people find each other world wide and it creates very special friendships that I treasure; such as yours!
Hugs,
Mariette
Cool to see such old computers :O))
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely new week,
Love and hugs
Claudia
Dearest Claudia,

Dearest Mariette;
ReplyDeleteOh My, I also cannot imagine the home computer in these days; comfortable looking desk with the pictures of you two♡♡♡ I forgot when I bought my word processor p;)
I remember thinking "WoW!!!" when young for the computer in the old American "TV drama "The Man from U.N.C.L.E" with my late father. Haha, very huge ones!!! I need my pc in the kitchen table to check things while talking, eating, watching tv. We sure are living in the advanced technology♪
Sending you Lots of Love and Hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako*
Dearest Miyako,
DeleteWe sure have come a long way and it is hard to imagine how HUGE the first computers with Internet connection were.
Nowadays we can no longer live without them. This morning I had a check up at my doctor's office and he does everything via PC as well!
Hugs and love from Georgia,
Mariette
Abbraccio,
Mariette

Dimi...
Dearest Dimi,
DeleteNo, we didn't know either what internet was, this was just an office computer.
By the end of 1999 I started with my first HUGE computer and internet...
Happy week to you as well.
Hugs,
Mariette
Wow, your PC from 1987 looks very different! How nice you have picture from this time. I got my first PC when I was in college. It was Mac and was huge! I can't imagine life without internet, smartphone and such any more. Things have changed a lot.
ReplyDeleteYour handmade window decorations are very lovely. Have a wonderful new week!
Dearest Tamago,
DeleteYes, when I was scanning my old slides, I was amazed to find these in there. Glad I have them for the memory of how humble we did start. Oh sure things have changed and it is good also for keeping contact across the oceans. Thank you for the compliment about the filet lace embroidery and enjoy this new week too. Although, we are afraid of the frost for tomorrow night... with all our tropical plants out of the greenhouse it is risky.
Hugs,
Mariette
I can't imagine life without internet!!! porque no te habría conocido mujer maravillosa!!!
ReplyDeleteBesos
LEti
Sin pereza
Dearest Leticia,
DeleteNo way, we can't go back to how it was before internet! Pero gracias por tu clase cumplido. ¿Claro adónde habría encontrado un entrenador personal tan elegante y activo?
Cariñosamente y mil besos,
Mariette
Dear Mariette,
ReplyDeleteInteresting post and lovely that you had photos to look back on.
We had an old PC about the same time - remember the whirring noises when it started up. Was so happy when my husband bought me a fabulous Apple computer - the blue plastic looking one - it was great.
Yes, hard to imagine life without the Internet, computers iphones etc. - thanks for sharing.
happy week
hugs
Carolyn
Dearest Carolyn,
DeleteScanning my old slides the end of the year I was amazed to find these!
We never had a fabulous Apple, only the modern iPhone and iPad but nowadays things look so sleek and they are quiet too.
Happy week to you as well.
Hugs,
Mariette
We have certainly come a long way (in technology) in such a short time. Great post my friend. Hugs and blessings, C. (HHL)
ReplyDeleteDearest Celia,
DeleteIndeed have we all come a long way in record tempo and it still is improving steadily. Hope we can keep up with it.
Hugs to you and stay warm.
Mariette
I have loved computers right from the start. Cell phones...not so much. :( Do we really need to be that connected? I don't think so.
ReplyDeletexo Catherine
Dearest Catherine,
DeleteFor work they are a must and what would we waste a lot of time without them?!
Cell phones maybe not but smart phones for bridging the ocean are great!
Hugs to you,
Mariette
Truly so much has changed since the time the computers came into existence dear mariette. It was nice going through the vintage pictures. The box looks great.. I love everything from Kashmir, its such a beautiful place :) Hope you have a great day!
ReplyDeleteDearest Pallavi,
DeleteOh my, so much has changed since the beginning of computers!
The people in Kashmir make so many lovely things, it sure is a beautiful place when looking at Pieter's photos from his trip over there.
Wishing you a happy week as well.
Hugs,
Mariette
No photos, Nothing pretty enough to photograph.
ReplyDeleteDearest Kay,
DeleteWell at times we even forgot to take photos and later in life we wonder how it looked like...
Hugs to you,
Mariette
Hi Mariette
ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful home. I first came in contact with a pc in 1985 when i started my first job. Gosh that is a long time ago and look where we are today, technology is really speeding forward. However they are great tools or have we just gotten use to them and adapted to the new world? I look around me here on the tram and almost everybody having their nose down doing something in rheir smartphones, even i hehe. I usually read some blogs while travelling in to the city.
Dearest Eva,
DeleteThank you, our previous home was very similar laid out as the present one.
It is so true about smartphones and tablets and such. It keeps people engaged but it's not person to person anymore. Still a great way for bridging distances and keeping up with others!
Hugs to you,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette,
ReplyDeleteI just can't find for your Mom's? and i got back from yous 24th-March!
Hugo love and admiration! you has be back to me...
Michiko
Dearest Michiko san,
DeleteSorry, I accidentally did re-publish it from my iPad... But you must have received it by now.
Hugs and admiration to you always dear friend!
Mariette
Dearest Mariette,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing these memories! I have no computer dinosaur photos or memories, because I LONG resisted having a computer (Typical artist thing, I guess, LOL) -- same with cell phones and a smartphone now (which I still use very sparingly).
As you can see, I'm still on the "back side" of blogging and catching up, unfortunately... since this is a very busy time for me and will be for a while -- I'm moving to a new apartment in May!
Thinking of you and your sweet furry babies! Thank you so much for the update!
Lots of love and hugs to you!
Dearest Anna,
DeleteGuess we barely can resist in this time and era as you are out of touch without.
Good for you to be busy and if you are moving to a new apartment that means you have no spare time at all. Don't worry about your blogging.
Take care and your Mammola will have to settle into her new home soon.
Hugs,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette ,your first PC reminds to me my first PC at 1993,at my work office !! Then was a very young woman and I loved everything new about technology .At home we bought the first PC at 1997 when my older son was 15 and he wanted so much ! I used the PC and Internet in my job so at last my younger boy gave as a gift an iphone but I don't like so much ..it is difficult for me the small letters ...
ReplyDeleteI loved your filet lace so much !! Have a lovely day !
Dearest Olympia,
DeleteHaha, you have a similar story as well and it is so true about the iPhone having small letters. That means we are aging...
Sending you hugs and thanks for the compliment.
Hope your Independence Day was a happy one.
Mariette
Dearest Mariette, your post brought back memories of my first AMSTRAD CPC (my son still has it, not only in photos !!) in the early '90. At that time, the company I was working in, was not yet computerized and - I will never forget this- my boss had a very important and long speech to deliver, so he came to my home so that I may type and edit his speech over and over, before printing it on my small BROTHER printer. Then, I persuaded him to computerize the company and for this, he called a very dear friend of his...from Holland!
ReplyDeleteDirk van der L. came to Athens, I was appointed his assistant and interpreter, and together we initiated the employees to the world of the computers. He stayed in Greece, married a local lady, obtained the Greek nationality and we retired about the same time, two years ago!!!
I just loved your embroidered windo decorations!! They are lovely!!
Many hugs and thanks for bringing back those memories!!!!
Dearest Marie-Anne,
DeleteSo glad you got fond memories about your first CPC. Quite a story with a Dutch link... Sounds like a great job you did together and what a story that he stayed in Greece.
Thanks for your compliment about the window decorations.
Hugs,
Mariette
I remember the first computer I worked on in about 1985 -- boy oh boy, was it huge. Can't remember the name of it now. Big clunky keys that made a whole lot of noise while typing. Times sure have changed. Best wishes, Tammy
ReplyDeleteDearest Tammy,
DeleteIt is one of the biggest improvement one can think of I guess.
Hugs,
Mariette
Liefs,
Mariette
